with all the perfomance errors with just the models themselves, no, but for a "style" pack maybe, although they would just be scaled down or modified versions of the default, in which case, its easier on everyone if you just set your texture settings to low and enter mat_filtertextures to 0 in your console. we have almost completely figured out what models can be added and what models cant be added for a 10+ fps increase, but because of inconsistencies, (meaning i added all the vanilla weapons, and the fps dropped to normal levels without the pack, no c_models whatso-ever, meaning the c_hands were not added either, just the w_models folder, and the v_models folders) it might only just be the player models
Is it likely that once TF2 converts to Steampipe this could change and actually increase FPS?
Is it likely that once TF2 converts to Steampipe this could change and actually increase FPS?
No. The only way to gain performance is to install the player models and gibs only. And yes, we did benchmark the pack on VPK, and not much was different. The way source engine works, if there's too many mods, the game will slow down. You can still install the player models and get a good 10 to 15 fps boost. At this point, the full pack is for aesthetics purposes.
A download will come soon that only includes the player models, and you can install that instead of the full pack.
well, i cant be sure about what snowshoe said, as of now the pack being seperated into a style and performance versions is definate, i was unable to test vpk's to their fullest ability like i did with the default tf2, so there are several configurations i was unable to try because of the vpk compiler being broken almost immidiately after we wanted to start testing the performance issues, (i was able to compile a vpk with all the models at the time, like a week before the release, which did reduce framerates, but wassnt as bad , as far as i can remember, as the default, but not by much) since its fixed again, ill test as soon as i can.
does it make much of a fps difference for you? im not noticing much but it looks cool.
also fuck sv_pure.
Reskins are OP
IMO Valve should put these skins in the game as an option or something.
DEFAQ is this?

You should really snip this.
It's been a while since we got anything new. Is the project dead?

Faceflexes are done.
I think the mod is just been updated all to the new steampipe version.

huh? works fine on steampipe.

how did you get it to work? i make a new directory in the "custom" folder and unzip all the contents there but i don't get any of the skins to show up.
how did you get it to work? i make a new directory in the "custom" folder and unzip all the contents there but i don't get any of the skins to show up.
You have to put all the contents into a VPK format. Try that and see if it works.
you have to put it in its own folder. for example
tf/custom/oldschool/*
I tried setting it up to tf/custom/old_school_pack11 and they're not showing up. Do they only show up on SV_pure 0 servers? I tried on a public server and in offline practice and they didn't show up.

I created a vpk file using the vpk.exe in the bin folder so I now have a "Old School.vpk" in the custom folder, but the skins still do not show up. Any way to fix that?

I haven't talked to Insaneicide in weeks, and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to release this, but here is the "unofficial" performance version of the pack. Insaneicide was working on his own thing but I don't think his .vpk has Medic flexes or gunslinger/huntsman support.
Includes:
- all 9 class models, in their latest versions
- gib models
- huntsman arrows and gunslinger textures
- facial flexes for all the classes except pyro
- new heads for sniper, spy and stuff
Should give you 10 to 15 more frames. This only includes what I listed above... all the other weapons, viewmodels and other stuff isn't included, because they reduce framerate, it's just a limitation of the engine. So don't merge this with your existing old school pack install, because it will make no difference on FPS (it's actually worse) if you use the full pack.

Cool, thanks. But you know, i use this mod because it looks great. My computer is good and everything. Still good to see it alive.
sorry everyone for not thinking to post, my computer failed a while back, and the version of windows i was using untill the 30th of april (the 30 day expiration date) was my only way of modding as of right now i dont have internet access on my default install of xp because the virus i got back in october (antivirus renewal, thought i was fine, something snuck in tho , but at least i kept that thing running untill april...) completely deleted WMI and Windows Firewall i could mod, but i would have no way of posting it... or probably even compiling... now that i think about it.... either way, untill i get the xp professional boot disc i cant fix this huge glaring problem.
What's a recommended autoexec config for this set? I wanna see ragdolls and whatnot, but keep the N64 style. Also, will there be view models in the same model pack?
Valve wrote that tf2 loads files faster from vpks compared to filesystem.
Try packing your mod into a vpk, guys.
EDIT: oh wait you already compiled one. Now benchmark it.

My benchmark from a long while ago only compared the valve's highest quality model setting to the lowpoly ones so you might even be better off setting r_rootlod to 2 and not even using this pack. I haven't really seen what Insaneicide did since I haven't seen him in like a month so yeah :v:
Feel free to benchmark and prove me wrong but honestly this is looking like an aesthetics-only pack if you want my personal opinion.

I'd hate to see this die, because it just looks so damn good. Even if it doesn't help with framerate, i really hope work continues on this.
Don't you die on me damn it!
Is the pack supposed to make unusual effects disappear?
hey, sorry if this has been asked before, but i checked both the OP pack and the "unofficial performance pack" and the player models dont show up in the loadout screen. is there a way to fix this?
Thought I'd post this
The dispenser screen always looks like this

Yeah, is because that is placed using a script which means only works if you are the host or if the server has it. Joining in a server will replace it with the default script.
-nope-
