I can't think of like, any situation in which it would be a better option to stand completely still for four seconds, instead of just using healing your teammates. If you're getting in situations where you need to heal people that quickly, that you're willing to risk loosing all of your uber for it, just equip the quick fix. Like, if you're running stock, uber builds slow and is a resource not worth risking. If you're running quick fix, you can keep your team alive just fine because you can target the people who are losing health fastest and buff them. Amputator taunt is an awful mechanic, and the whole weapon should be redone.
Technical direct upgrade versus practical direct upgrade
I am not even gonna bother. Simply put, the Heal Aura has a trade off as any taunt kill/taunt based action and it baffles me that people thinks that standing on one place for several seconds is not a downside.
If there was a Minigun clone that had a taunt that did 1 damage after standing still for 10 seconds, it would still be a direct upgrade, since the original weapon's taunt is entirely negligible to gameplay Of course this is all moot since the Amputator is different now and gives you more passive healing (not half bad), but still, I see that term misused too much
I am not even gonna bother. Simply put, the Heal Aura has a trade off as any taunt kill/taunt based action and it baffles me that people thinks that standing on one place for several seconds is not a downside.
That doesn't actually invalidate anything that I've stated. In fact, all it does it make my point even more clear. The item itself does not have any actual downsides. It offers a tool, an option, a practical use, for the exchange of...well, nothing. It invites you to do something that is inherently risky, but the invitation itself is not a downside. Again, it's an option. You're confusing the definitions of direct upgrades and practical upgrades. A direct upgrade is exactly what I've been harping on about. It's item+, there's nothing detracted from itself in order to be statistically better in every form when put in a direct juxtaposition. Then there are practical upgrades. A practical upgrade takes into account far more than direct-line-by-line attributes. These are items that have downsides, but the downsides are virtually non-existent when utilized with a wary mindset that takes into account more than just the item itself. The Axtinguisher, for instance, is a practical upgrade. There's no real instance in which a Pyro will be in melee range with a player is not on fire, so the downside it offers is, for the most part, a non-existent thing. For all intents and purposes, the pre-nerf Amputator was "balanced" for practical purposes. But it was a sore thumb solely because it was 1:1 a copy of the Bonesaw, but with a little extra. This is why it, Solemn Vow, and Third Degree were/are considered direct upgrades -- because they are, regardless of how situational or practical their added abilities may be. The Rainblower is in an odd position, because it's taunt offers a thing, but it is slightly slower of an animation. In direct upgrade terms, it is not strictly better. As there is 1 situation in which it is worse: that in which a player is taunting specifically to taunt an enemy player, and not to kill them. For practical purposes, however, it is an upgrade to the Flamethrower -- as a tauntkill is best used to kill, not to taunt.
I do not care in the slightest if a weapon is a direct upgrade to a stock that would never be used anyway. I'd rather have a Third Degree without a downside to stock than with one, because even with no downsides to stock, it's still rarely more useful than the other options available. The Solemn Vow for example was needlessly nerfed to give it a "downside", when the real downside was that both the vitasaw and ubersaw were more viable options. If stock isn't good enough to match more interesting items, buff stock. Don't nerf underpowered weapons for the sake of a meaningless facade of balance that skirts around the actual problem.
The fuck is the point of arguing that something is a direct upgrade if there is no practical use for the upgrade other than being able to say you're "technically" correct.
The fuck is the point of arguing that something is a direct upgrade if there is no practical use for the upgrade other than being able to say you're "technically" correct.
I didn't even think my dumb post would create such a discussion. I just thought that being able to instantly kill somebody with a taunt is an upgrade, because the rainblower itself doesn't have anything different from stock flamethrower.

its ugly as fuck. not even i like it.
It no longer shows up while you're cloaked.
You sure? I flamed a Spy using it and as he ran away and cloaked, I swear I still saw the bubble over him.
You sure? I flamed a Spy using it and as he ran away and cloaked, I swear I still saw the bubble over him.
It doesn't show if they are cloaked when it is set off.
It doesn't show if they are cloaked when it is set off.
So basically it still shows if they start to cloak and run. Interesting I guess, but I still wouldn't call it a 'direct' upgrade.
Is the general consensus is that the Danger Shield is OP? I never play Sniper, so I wouldn't know.
Well it certainly annoys me as a Sniper that doesn't use it. No fun being able to snipe that fast if the little fucker survives. Unbearable when the guy has a pocket.
The banlist for some of those weapons confuses me. The Discipinary is intended for faster rollouts and is banned The Escape Plan is used for faster rollouts and is allowed ???
The banlist for some of those weapons confuses me. The Discipinary is intended for faster rollouts and is banned The Escape Plan is used for faster rollouts and is allowed ???
probably the extended range
I still hate how they banned Sandvich. Yeah, sure. Let's ban one of Heavy's most viable if not the best secondary and call it a day!
Did voice_enable 0 not work?
I do this for every Valve-owned game
I do this for every Valve-owned game
He/She asked if it worked or not but ok.
Will the forsaken cup be streamed?
Will the forsaken cup be streamed?
I don't imagine there will be official streams during the group stages (theres 90+ teams), but bigger teams might be streamed by teamfortresstv and individuals probably will via twitch/hitbox/steam. The finals will more than likely be broadcast though.
A reason I dislike comp is because a lot of weapons I like are banned, I understand bans like the Beggar's Bazooka, Airstrike, or other somewhat """""OP""""" Weapons but why would you ever ban the Battalions Backup? Or the Mantreads?! Or the BASE Jumper, I thought that Bug was fixed with the Sentries? Caber is also still banned even though it does only like 20 extra dmg, Steak sandvich is banned and the funniest one is that the Panic Attack is banned. Sorry but these are just stupid. I want my Backup.

I used to play TF2 on a piece of shit broken 9800 GTX or something and I just found this old screenshot from it: [T]http://i.imgur.com/9LmhJiK.jpg[/T] It used to freeze after an hour of play and then swap all the textures round like this :v: (my favorite part is the companion cube instead of the timer)

Be nice to the guy every once in a while.
I just don't understand bans in comp full stop. I mean this is a broken record at this point, but I like how MOBAs handle "banning" heroes; on a match-by-match basis, with each team taking turns in banning heroes. It leads to interesting situations because there's usually more heroes you want to ban than you CAN ban, so it turns into a bit of a mindgame during the pick phase.

I had a 9500GT that did the same stuff. And even some games caused BSoD.
