I wish normal items would be marketable, it's like that for DOTA and CS:GO. TF2 needs to get with the times, stop living in the stone age! [editline]9th February 2015[/editline] It'd just make things so much more convenient.
Some normal items are marketable (namely Xmas 2014's Nice crate contents) but I know what you're saying and I've got to agree. Sometimes, buying items with cash is cheaper than buying things to trade for it (for example, I got a Hero's Tail yesterday for under the price of a key while I'd need to buy a key to trade for it- spending more in the process).
in other news, use of the in-game store has been reduced to buying keys and tools
Isn't that how it's always been? Most players who understand how the game's economy work almost never buy items from the store. I mean really, what smart player would actually waste $10 to buy a phlog, or $7.50 for that stupid pyro fish hat, when you could just buy a key from the store and get those items and more?
I mean really, what smart player would actually waste $10 to buy a phlog
The thing is that the Phlog and the Huntsman are/were two of the best-selling items in the Mann Co Store because of kids just finding out about unlocks and OH MY GOD THAT WEAPON IS SO COOL!, usually stemming from the pay-to-win aspects of other free games on Steam. Like, look at it from the perspective of a 12-year-old who got this game last Thursday. A space-age flamethrower that gives free heals and crits for one of the simplest classes in the game, and it's only 10 bucks? You'd be grabbing your mom's credit card in no time. Valve knows exactly what they're doing with marketing, and even though debates could go on forever about "but is it right to charge that much for a gun?" -- it makes money.
actually, it was because (initially) the only way to get it was to buy it from the store. a crafting recipe was added weeks later. and given how absurdly op the phlog was back when it was added, everyone wanted one.
it's like that "realistic faces mod" thing on gamebanana [editline]e[/editline] this thing
[t]http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/903255624231915137/7EAC62EE8DF314127EB9B2CF52A2C720C1741954/[/t]
Is anyone else having trouble with the trade confirmation? It never sends the emails.
Is anyone else having trouble with the trade confirmation? It never sends the emails.
Holy shit!! I came to facepunch to ask the same thing.
Is anyone else having trouble with the trade confirmation? It never sends the emails.
The better question is why you still have that thing enabled.
The better question is why you still have that thing enabled.
I still have mine enabled only because I don't trade that often anymore, so it's not much of an inconvenience to me. I'm playing it safe I guess.
The better question is why you still have that thing enabled.
irrelevant
Steam is currently having a problem with the email system in general, according to the almost-dead Steam Support twitter.
more time for tf2 because of flood absolutely wonderful
more time for tf2 because of flood absolutely wonderful
[SM] You are flooding the server!
Although that may be true, it's still not a decent enough explanation as to how it stayed on the top sellers list for years.
because your average new player usually clicks the most popular tab on the store, saw the phlog there and went with it, it only being $10. multiply that over the years every day and it basically generates a snowball effect, perpetually being the most sold weapon in tf2's history. it was the same exact reason why we cant see the "most popular" items on the workshop anymore. it causes items that are already popular to get a constant influx of votes, putting them on the very top for ages to come in a never ending cycle.
Someone on /co/ was storytiming The Superior Foes of Spider-Man (an amazingly hilarious book, go read it) and I was inspired to make a fading spray. So a while ago I decided to treat myself to a late christmas present and get myself a unusual for the first time. In my heart I kind of hoped that the stars would align one day and I would get one out of a crate, but I've already sunk so much money into keys; I figured I may as well bite the bullet and just buy a cheap one to satisfy my dark craving. And I'm hella happy with it - it's a orbiting planets private eye so I can wear it on two of my favourite classes with spy thrown in as a added bonus. The problem is, while sitting in spawn I just feel too gosh darn afraid to wear it! I feel worried that if I do wear it and I play terribly, I'll look like a big fakey fake. Like, I feel as soon as I put it on I'll get into a 1 on 1 fight and die in some hilarious way and everyone will point and laugh. I guess in my head I've sort of worked up unusual wearers as carriers of the entire team who are not allowed to underscore ever and I get nervous by standing out I won't meet expectations. It's a bit of a silly concept because unusuals aren't really any kind of badge of skill and there are probably plenty of really terrible unusual players. Its just kind of odd making that jump to the next tier of hats, from "non-gibus average unpainted three cosmetic slots filled hat wearer" to "unusual wearer". Like you are losing some of your anonymity and have to start proving yourself now.

Of course they don't proof anything either, but a high ranked strange weapon usually means that you've put quite some time into the game. Same goes for unusual hats (in most cases). When you do some stupid mistake, the worst that'll happen is some goofy on the server making fun of you, so what? Nobody cares about him anyways. Those people are usually just mad or jealous. I just stopped caring about what people might think about me and have a lot more fun with the game since then. Just don't overthink it and play the game. In the end, playing the game is what counts and not what someone thinks about you or what items you use.

Now if it were something extremely visible like burning flames, then people might start getting assumptions.

If nobody else on your team has an unusual the docs will flock to your cock like you're the talk of the walk
But that's implying that anyone wants to play Medic on pubs, of course.
But that's implying that anyone wants to play Medic on pubs, of course.
Pub medics are a rarity.
and when they happen they're battle medics
But that's implying that anyone wants to play Medic on pubs, of course.
I told you about the medic that didn't want to heal me because I was on my alt and had no hat didn't I?
I've played in lobbies where the medic refused to detach himself from the roamer while i was the pocket soldier. The team got pissed i started roaming and i could only tell them i'm not following the damn medic around, either he follows me or i do as i want because it's boring as hell watching others be healed and you expect me to protect you when you don't do the same for me

Do some players have any brain at all? Are they high and drunk?
That has to be the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Do some players have any brain at all? Are they high and drunk?
That's usually expected in Lobbies like TF2Center.
That's usually expected in Lobbies like TF2Center.
That's kinda sad.
That's kinda sad.
That's pretty much the reason why I don't play lobbies.
