Backpack.tf's always been manipulated. It's not news and it's not even outraging. It'd crumble pretty fast if that weren't the case.
I know nobody cares about this, but jesus, this is clearly price manipulation:

It wouldnt bother me if they didnt advertise the fact they're community driven when it's pretty clear staff make the final decisions, which is rarely supportive of the majority vote
I think if bp.tf didn't exist, the TF2 trading economy would improve substantially. Then again, people are so used to having it around, that if it did die, someone would just make a clone and it'd happen all over again.
I didn't like the days of the spreadsheet either tbh
One one hand, I'd find trading to be more interested if people just traded X for Y (I like your hat, want mine?)
On the other hand, everyone knows that things do have limited quantity and quality and it'd be far easier to shark people by giving laz0r wepon for a hat.
Don't you guys just love it whenever you go check the Workshop and half of the items on every page is complete garbage?
Don't you guys just love it whenever you go check the Workshop and half of the items on every page is complete garbage?
Why are you describing what the workshop is for? I thought everyone knew that.
Don't you guys just love it whenever you go check the Workshop and half of the items on every page is complete garbage?
while the system of having everything judged regardless of date or rating is fine, it also leads to crap hitting front page purely because of ironic votes or it being popular negatively
Heavy seems to be hard class to play differently from its default role. I've been having some fun with Tomislav, Steak, and Warriors Spirit but it's still pretty far from the unique fun of playing something like demoknight, pyroshark, or bird scout. Every loadout is too much like every other heavy could run. I was curious to see if anyone had any ideas about what Valve could do, say in an update, to open up more variance to what heavies can do. Maybe giving him new items/weapons that let him fulfill a role or two that the community has imagined with new class ideas?
So how are Spies working out for you nowadays?
I've been maining Spy since I started playing back in 2008 before quitting after Mannconomy update. Started playing again mid-October, it's still pretty fun but it's a bit annoying that people just got....better....at spy checking :v:
For the love of god can never shoot straight with any revolver, not even gonna talk about Amby headshots... Sticking to L'Etranger for enhanced cloak duration, IMO the damage reduction isn't even that bad considering I only use revolver for last-hitting or killing snipers point-blank.
The netcode for detecting backstabs is still fucking horrible.
How good are skial servers? saigns.de tier? Or just mediocre? Looking to find a good stable server to play on usually, preferably in EU, these seem to offer good connectivity and not too many dumbasses as well. Any other recommendations?

I don't play much spy on the servers I frequent since everyone else is as paranoid as I am. As in spychecking every other second on teammates and behind my back. I try to avoid Skial, Saigns, Valve, and Lotus servers because either the players are all too new and boring to play against or its 'that time of the day' for a party of australium/unusual-covered guys to pubstomb on the gibus team over and over.
Lots of 24/7 servers, achievement_idle boxes... Rather disappointing to be honest.
There are a few good custom-map rotating servers still around, but not enough. RocketRoll and FuG are okay in my experience.

skial isn't horrible, but it has a lot of dumbos, pubstompers, and instant respawn 24/7 map servers. Best to avoid them if you have other options.
Only good community servers I know are FuG, but I'm pretty sure they don't have any EU servers.

Pretty good EU server is The Grumpy Old Gits. They run mostly stock maps with a handful of good custom maps as well. Community is good, players are pretty good on average. Only downside is mods don't work but won't crash you on map change.
Killed a Heavy being quick-fix ubered with a critical punch.
His name was Unpredictable Hit :v:
Are there any good custom map servers in the US? All of them seem to be in EU.
Are there any good custom map servers in the US? All of them seem to be in EU.
If you don't mind RTD, Fug's Hovel of Tomfoolery is good for a variety of gamemodes. Star_'s server has custom maps in theory, but people never seem to vote for the customs.
its not that people are better at spychecking, but that teammate walking towards you when an enemy heavy is firing at both of you...
how many spies can run at a single sentry gun and get shot?
how many times will they attempt the same thing after it fails?
how many dominations do i get as an engie without any sentry kills?
many, numerous, and lots
yeah, its cool and everything but you should play outside valve servers from time to time.
but latency issues
also i learned the 2fort sewer surf
Can anyone recommend some good servers? I've been messing around on Valve servers since I started playing but I'd like to try others.

Crit Sandvich is a good US-based community that I usually go to when Valve servers get boring. The regulars are a lot of fun and they're pretty competent compared to your usual Valve server fare, even if they do keep changing the map to Goldrush or Dustbowl half the time. They've got a handful of servers, but ever since quickplay, the only one that ever has anyone playing is the Chicago Slaybox.
I've actually gotten away with being disguised by letting an enemy Engineer fire at me a couple times with his pistol and walking away. He gets fooled and I slip by as if I was a friendly Pyro.
Not only that, but it feels satisfying to not get bum rushed for acting suspicious.
I play on the ATF server with a friend whenever it's active. Custom and stock maps on rotation and the skill level is reasonable. It's all-talk though if that sort of thing bothers you.

Alright, I've been meaning to do this for a while and this post gives me an excuse to. Here we go.
(Subjectively) Good Servers and Server Chains
Skial/LotusClan - I know they're usually labeled "as bad as Valve servers" but they're the biggest server chains that don't have game-ruining donator benefits or nonsense like that. Depending on where you go, the skill levels seem to fluctuate - Skial 32-man Fast Respawn Turbine is bad, Skial 24-man Badwater is good. Also, they have servers outside the US, too.
FirePowered - I don't go on their servers much personally, but I know their admins are really active in the community, they actually give a shit about !reports, and their locations aren't bad, either (Arizona bias). They only run 24/7 servers though, and they're only in Phoenix and Ashburn.
SLAUGHTERHOUSE - This is one of the only communities I know with an almost-always populated server running custom maps. The community's really nice, the map selection is great, and the fast respawn isn't too gamebreaking - the ratios for each respawn are still kept, but drastically lowered (rather than 20:5 respawn time, it's 8:2 for example)
Bar Room Heroes - Yeah, they have an achievement server, but stay away from it. FastSpawn #2 is where all the dank memers are at. Seriously, the community's pretty friendly and generally intoxicated. They have a fun "drinking game" plugin, too, so points for uniqueness. Just don't be under 18 years old.
The Ville - needs a lot more love than it currently gets! I don't think it's quickplay eligible, because they give "seed points" to the first few players on a server (redeemable for a forum badge), but that leads to a pretty open and welcoming community. I love their "stock TF2 rotation" (#7) server; it's such a shame that the custom maps one is never populated. Also, their servers are few and very close together in central US.
CritSandvich - Good map choice, good location, good admins, and they have a sandvich in every respawn room (that's saved me from burning many times). They only really run Payload maps though, and usually they're either empty or completely full. Also, only 3 servers and US only.
MassInsanityClan - I'm not sure if they can be considered a chain with only TF2 servers, but they have A VANILLA ARENA SERVER that's actually usually pretty populated. And... that's it. Their rotation server is dead as fuck. Oh well.
The Lions Den - It's usually pretty active, runs custom maps (SWIFTWATER!!) and it's got some pretty cool plugins. !admins lets you notify the admins, but not necessarily for a report - you can use it to ask them to post an event, for example. It's also got !preference so Autobalance will see if you want to be autobalanced to a team or not, and gravetalk is enabled. But, this is their only server. :(
Café of Broken Dreams - a bunch of [del]nerds[/del] REALLY COOL PEOPLE. It's got a pretty active and close community, the admins are online all the time (there's an IRC plugin!) and it's generally "mostly serious but also sociable", if that makes sense. Make sure to call it the "cafe of broken memes"; doc loves it when people say that.

I'll probably add more to this eventually, cuz that's only a couple of servers that are on my favorites.
I think it says something when I consider "hitting a stationary target" an improvement to my ability to play sniper.
I think it says something when I consider "hitting a stationary target" an improvement to my ability to play sniper.
I think one of the best things to improving your sniper gameplay is to have confidence in your aim and to not hesitate at all to take a ~wacky~ shot. There's a reason Sniper is considered a tryhard class by a lot of people.
Play like you've got the hot new soon-to-not-be-VAC-proof aimbot, and you'll eventually ease into it.

I posted their servers above, but here is the Chicago IP
Don't FirePowered servers ban anybody that uses the Lenny face?
If that isn't enough to visit those servers, I don't know what is.
