goddamn what the fuck did something unusual happen for keys to be this expensive?
goddamn what the fuck did something unusual happen for keys to be this expensive?
Nothing unusual. Refined doesn't have a way to remove it from the economy besides crafting into hats, which no one really does because dropping, rebuild, and uncrating hats are all more attractive options. Keys have maintained a price of somewhere between $1.80-2.50 USD depending on who you buy from, while Refiend dropped from $1 to a mere $.12 USD. Keys in terms of currency haven't changed, but metal has just lost a ton of value. As for buds, I have no fucking clue what happened to them, but basically the tf2 community dropped buds as a currency and everyone is trading in keys now because they have a stable real world currency equivalent. [editline]2nd April 2015[/editline] Oh and here's an interesting statistic. The Burning TC because of the drop in buds value went from 500 buds to 1200 buds.

Might as well use Max's Head
I find myself imagining traders flinging themselves from the battlements of 2fort a la stock market crash of 1929.
there's even market manipulation someone's buying all the under-14-dollar buds and selling them for 14 dollars
Did anyone else noticed that they changed the Scattergun animations to ones before Love and War? Or is it just me
I just wanna finish this Strange collection, and get out.
someone's buying all the under-14-dollar buds and selling them for 14 dollars
Under-14-dollar buds, you say? [t]http://i.imgur.com/Ddd7ndQ.png[/t] :v:
Might as well use Max's Head
Max's head was the currency before Earbuds. Max's crashed though because two guys hoarded every single Max's and wouldn't sell to inflate prices. At a point Max's Head was like $140 each I think.
Moral of the story: don't invest in virtual markets
Buds tanked even harder than 8 keys
When I first started playing TF2, buds were 13 keys. When they rocketed to 28 keys I would miss the 13key days. 5-6 keys is insane, I would've enjoyed that price when I first started.
I find myself imagining traders flinging themselves from the battlements of 2fort a la stock market crash of 1929. But seriously, I'm really enjoying the competitive scene. I used to only care about TF2 media from STAR_ and Jerma and all the other "funzy" types. But I find myself watching more of b4nny and Tagg and other comp players. I even subbed to b4nnys twitch. Subbing to twitch is something I thought I'd never do.
Will buds ever rise or is it not worth investing?
i'd expect them to go down. Again.
Every time I try to get back into playing tf2, I get put back off by the repeated freezing for half a second. It happens even when the visuals are down to low. What's up with that?

What's up with that?
That seems to be a problem on all Source games. I notice it all the time in HL2 and stuff in places where it goes from small area -> big area quickly. Hopefully Source 2 gets rid of that and is much more solid in general. Right now Source feels like its being held together with tape and tears.
I notice it all the time in HL2 and stuff in places where it goes from small area -> big area quickly.
If it only freezes when you make that transition from small to big areas, and doesn't stay slow in those big areas, it could be an HDR thing. Try disabling it?
Moral of the story: don't invest in virtual markets
It's almost like currency without anything to back it up has difficulty maintaining a stable value.
Looks like they're just random lag spikes that I can't do fuck all about. No worries.

Subbing to twitch is something I thought I'd never do.
The competitive scene seems to be thriving pretty well contrary to popular belief. I've been seeing a LOT of new startup teams as of late in the lower divisions. They're flooded like a motherfucker with teams and it's pretty impressive. Lots of veteran high end players mentoring lower teams as well, which helps ease them in. Upper divisions have been consolidating a bit. There was a bit of a drought there for a little bit of new player influx, so upper teams basically have been reforming and merging. Takes 9 of each class for a full rostered HL, so having a player or two dropping out can dissolve an entire team if it's hard to find class. It'll likely expand again soon enough though, but for now it's to be expected--a bit of a "pyramid" in terms of division.
Why I hate Mannpower: Played as a heavy, got a whopping 30-ish kills with the vampire power up. Died. Spent the next half hour trying to find it again. Pyro came to our spawn with it, killed him. Flash finish race against a gibus demo to grab it. He gets it. Spend the last minute of the round fuming and hating everything.
I think you mean Mannpower, not Mann Up.
yeah, just got back into tf2, CBA to remember all the MANN crap they got out.
Vaccinator is King in mannpower

Spend the last minute of the round fuming and hating everything.
I just learn all of the hilariously broken power up combos, then go them depending on what power up I have. Basically, I have learned all the most hilarious combos in the game. Using these have easily gotten me 50+ streaks and have been accused of hacking and being a game ruiner. To be fair though, 9 dominations and a 145 streak is kind of hard to go against. :v: Agility Pyro - Backburner/Flare/Any Melee Similar to backstabbing, backburner crits do INSANE damage and can let you wreck shit super super hardcore if you can get behind them. Because of the wonky mechanics, you can often get crits above and below. With grapple lunging, just fuck shit up something fierce and laugh. Flare is recommended because you have instant weapon swap. It's a super great finisher to do crits backburner (or even not even crits) and when they back or rev up or whatever, insta swap to flare and just crit them for an instant 90. Melee is arbitrary, doesn't affect the combo much. Maybe Rake for health pickups? Spy - Diamondback/Revolver/Spycicle/Invis By use of grapple lunging with agility and the instant weapon swap, you can basically catch up to any person instantly and just lunge yourself with momentum and stab them in the back. If you do conventional grappling, you'll hit their back and they get a moment's notice. With lunging, you can easily get momentum and get yourself forward without having to touch them. Strength Strength isn't all that special. Pretty lame. Mostly just DM the shit out of things because it makes it unfair. Honestly to be expected ones with this. I personally use Scout - Scattergun / Pistol/ Any Melee Soldier - Stock Rocket or Beggars or Direct Hit / Shotgun or Gunboats (if I take a lot of self damage) / Equalizer Pyro - Backburner / Shotgun/ Any Mele Demo - Literally any demo loadout (demoknight or regular. Loch hits for 240 and melee is like 520 on crits) Heavy - Stock or Huo Long with shotgun and KGB. KGB gets almost one shots and you can snipe the shit out of people with temp crits to clear an area Engineer - Widowmaker / Pistol / Gunslinger. Basically just fuck shit up with widowmaker. Minimal falloff means you have to be super fucking bad to run out of ammo Spy - Revolver / Spycicle / Invis. Revolver hits for a fuckton. Invis is so you don't drop powerup on cloak, and spycicle is your getaway to fire Precision Pretty shitty overall. I think it may actually be the worst powerup all things considered. Basically, there's like maybe two things that are good Soldier - Beggars / Whatever/ Whatever. Basically no spread, fast rockets. Really good for mid to long range beggars fights where they keep their distance. That's about it. Spy - Revolver/ Spycicle / Invis - The revolver could actually hit the side of a barn at fucking point blank range with this powerup Vampire Heavy - Stock minigun or Huo-Long with whatever else - Throw yourself into as many people as you possibly fucking can. They can't outDPS your heals basically unless they all have revenge power up (even then) Pyro - Basically same shit, but grapple lunge a lot. Fire and forget. Warlock Go something meaty and do annoying tick damage I guess? I usually do Heavy or Pyro, no particular loadouts. Warlock is lame. Knockout - Used to be good until they nerfed the shit out of it again (I think I'm responsible, I managed a 145 streak with prenerf because I'm a shitlord or something) Soldier - Equalizer - Scales absolutely fucking hilariously. A losing fights always becomes a winning fight. In pre nerf with crits, when you were like under 50 HP, you hit for like 850. People are literally punished for doing damage to you. Funny as hell. Pyro - Powerjack - +75 health per kill, plus overheal. Adds up quickly. You do take more damage, but you move faster. Trade offs I guess Pyro - Back Scratcher - More health from pickups (that scales really nicely) and it hits for like 184 per hit, so you can still one shot most anything Demo/Pyro and under. Demo - He's bad now. They nerfed all my fun combos. Heavy - KGB - The more people that chase you, the worse it gets. One or two hit something, get crits and then punch everything for 450. Best ever. Heavy - Fists of Steel - Blows dick in any crowd control situation, but in 1v1 or smaller combat scenarioes, they cannot fucking kill you at all and basically are forced to melee you and get their shit wrecked. Spy - Spycicle - Because of a bug, Spy-cicle does not instantly go away when it's melted. I just butterknife pyros through fire while I have my burn immunity. Best ever. Haste Soldier - Beggars - 6 Beggars shots can be loaded up in a short time, throw them all over the place and kill all the things. Also since half reload, it's much easier to throw out solo rocketss and protect yourself. Demoknight - Loch n Load / Any Shield/ Eyelander - You can spew 6 LnL shots in a short time and basically SMG people with bullshit explosives. Eyelander heads collect fast as you can swing twice as fast. As an added bonus, I discovered a "crude bunny hopping" technique in MannPower that lets you go insanely fast. I can go from enemy's intel to my intel on Gorge in ~7 seconds with agility bunny hopping. EDIT: Forgot I made this video. Shows the concept roughly being played out. It's still really shoddy ,but you get the idea. Only a 50 streak, about as third as good as my best.
