Bah, bad reading on my part.
But that's good, If I want to go competative, I do want to get a chance at some prizes.
Question, does it matter to have a decent computer to play Competitive?
I have a good setup for TF2, it runs smooth and the only problem is lag, but that's usually server side/Steam side right?

Just have a fast internet connection if you can
framerate is up to you, but the higher the better, most people disable lots of the graphical options to ensure they're always running at top FPS
Every big big competition provides medals for participating, at the very least.
There are item prizes for every Tier (Division) on ETF2L. On Premier Division, you can get cash and real world items like peripherals for your computer.
You also get fancy medals on the lower divs of UGC and I think you get cash prizes on Platinum.
Not sure about ESEA.
No you do not get any cash prizes for participating in UGC. Your medals do have placement indications if you're in a league above Silver though (Silver+ gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd place badges, Steel and Iron everyone just gets Participant badges)
Honestly if anyone wants to get involved with comp check out http://playcomp.tf/. I linked it in the OP for a reason.

As long as you can pull 60FPS constantly you should be fine.

I'm not sure how to respond to this, i was stomping a pub and this guy insulted me and then asked me to scrim his team and then left
He's apparently ugc silver, i'm going into steel, which is one division below.
I'm not sure whether I can take someone with the name of the worst Catwoman movie ever to exist seriously.

If you can play on full 12v12 public servers at 50+ FPS you'll be able to play competitive just fine. 6v6 is not as demanding (plus even with hard spam the particle effects shouldn't slow you down too much) but Highlander could present a problem with all the shit going on.
Your internet connection is the most important thing.
Playing some TF2 and I keep seeing some kid get angry at me and accusing me of hacking/cheating
He was shouting the chat about how he's going to make a video of me and put it on the steam forums and have me banned and he's obviously reaaally pissed off, so he leaves the server. Me being the pedantic ass I am I find his steam profile and keep joining his game until he notices and swaps to another server, where I'll promptly follow him again.
At first when he noticed I'd just ask him to say sorry and he'd call me a noob or something along those lines but after a while he sends me a trade request where he demands to seem my "best items" for some reason, it turns out all he wants is a sandman and he's sorry for calling me all those names, he was just mad because his parents don't let him on the computer very often and I was killing him all the time :v:
To cut the story short he seemed nice and he said sorry in the end, so I jumped on to a trade server and got him a sandman to say sorry, and he added me on steam to play sometimes when he can.

Pretty sure he was talking about lag as in bad ping.

I got an average 300 FPS but there's some weird internet mechanic causing me to get a 30 FPS on most servers.
I always get these horrible lagspikes on pretty much every server. No idea what causes it, not the only one. It really puts me off playing.

if your computer can only see 60 frames per second you should try to limit how many frames you get down to 60, 300 fps is useless
Not even remotely true. Even with a 60hz monitor, >60 FPS has benefits like reduced input lag.
i must admit its the year 2015 and i havent played anything in 60fps, yet.
youtube started offering high quality videos in 60 fps and now I have to watch them in lower quality because 60 fps just looks weird to me
my struggle is so unreal (engine)
60 fps just reminds me of daytime soap operas.
I believe it also reduces motion blur which is why everything looks so smooth.
However, I've noticed that motion blur is more appropriate for TF2 since its resemblance to cartoons and its use of "animation smears".
As such, TF2 animations or SFMs seem to be more engaging with split-second smears.

60fps means twice as more frames as we are used to see, wich means there are less "inbetween" frames being blurred.
to be honest, its more of a personal choice. i dont really see a practical use on something like SFM since it doesnt really help convey the idea that there are more frames into a motion as you would need in a conventional 2d animation.
Today, I played my first tf2center highlander lobby. Too bad the only server in Europe was koth_trainsawlaser :v:
But trainsawlaser is the best map in the game.
Yes but comp is best played on shitty maps like granary.

Or badwater. It has bad in it's name for a reason.
I like having 60fps but it's not really a deal breaker if something has less frames.

badwater is arguably one of the best payload maps in the game, behind upward.
[editline]7th May 2015[/editline]
also some of my favorite tf2center lobbies have been on non-conventional maps, like hydro.
Because competent players can get the most of a map layout like hydro.

Badwater is such a great designed map. I love jumping onto a server and just go roamer Soldier on it. Hydro is great as well I have no idea why almost nobody likes it.
I enjoy any map where one team has a single spawn door. Stickycamping has never been easier.
Unrelated to TF2 (but I was looking in my TF2 inventory) but has anyone noticed Skyrim's got an inventory tab in the steam inventory?
How long's that been there?

I think it's related to when Valve added the option to add paid mods to the workshop, apparently you could also trade them.

I hate the blu spawns on badwater tbh. The first spawn can be a pain in the ass to push out of if there are enough demos on the other team and the forward spawn only has one exit and is stupidly easy to camp.

Badwater is one of the most balanced maps, but I find it too flat for my taste.
