Oh no, still from the back, but the payoff is an instant placesteal. Like they don't scream, the body doesn't show, and the only clue it happened is the killicon. Drops disguise on failed stab is logical.

Eternal reward could make you 5% faster for -25hp. That might be OP though.

The idea of the corpse simply disappearing would be good for the Spy in terms of stealth, but it would probably strange as hell and unrealistic even for a video game if he simply disappeared instantly without a trace as if someone had used a remover gun on them.
How about the enemy falls over silently, and the body makes no impact noises.
Then a few seconds after they've been killed they disappear in puff of smoke.
Kinda like how enemies die in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (without the sound though).

This would only be a problem in competitive games and on arena though.
Most people pay no attention to the people that call out what the Spy is disguised as, only where the Spy was seen. Spies change disguises constantly either way, so looking for a specific class disguised as a Spy is a waste of time. You're only being useful to your team if you call out the area you were killed by the Spy in. If you're talking about Medics calling out that they've just been killed by a Spy to protect their teammate, they can already do that.

I don't think that removing the Sapper or Revolver would make up for it.
It doesn't make sense that it would remove the Revolver, because then it would be the first unlockable that replaced 2 weapons at the same time, and I hate the idea of it disabling the sapper because that only discourages team work.
If it had something as powerful as making the Spy not drop his disguise when killing an enemy, it would have to come with a major downside as well.
Perhaps reduced movement speed, or perhaps that it has to hover over the enemies back for 1 or 2 seconds before it can stab.
I personally like the idea of it having to hover in the "ready to backstab" animation for 1 or 2 seconds, along with the removal of "death screams" from enemies when they die.

Though players don't notice it first thing, the icon is still there and generally players will scream into their mic "I WAS BACKSTABBED BY A SPY" or type it in chat totally giving you away.
You cannot rush perfection. I'm thinking that since people would constantly criticize their newer attributes they are actually putting more value and thinking into these weapons.

That is a universal problem with the Spy, not with the weapon.
People don't usually pay that much attention to the icons anyway.
They usually only do when there is a very small amount of people playing, and when a very small amount of people are playing you're fucked as a spy either way.

Once again, not a problem with the default chat settings where if you're dead the living can't hear you.

Yes you can use the chat, but what good is it telling dead people there is a spy behind that heavy over there?
They better not remove the backstab for the new Knife. Otherwise it will be instantly useless.

Also the new revolver should fire faster but do less damage. The design of it looks like a faster firing weapon (at least IMO).
