Let's play Team Fortress Classic instead
... That's a wonderful idea, actually. Let's set up a server or find one without bots and play! Everybody will play with us, right?
Please? :smith:
The sword is the ugliest fucking thing to ever appear in TF2, I think this was the last nail on the artstyle's coffin.
Valve releases a giant update including a full-fledged replay system and loads of bug fixes.
Soon after, they release a new promo.
The previous update is forgotten completely to make room for countless posts of whining children.
I don't mind promo items much, but I don't like how common and unrelated they're becoming. We aren't even getting acknowledging blog posts anymore. The only way we find out about them is when we look in the files of a suspiciously large update to discover that they snuck in some promos without mentioning them in the patch notes and their only official announcement is the Steam notice popups.
It's like Valve is ashamed of the promos or something.
Clearly, if they didnt want to say "no" to the witcher 2 team asking them to add these items for free advertising, they could have at least given the sword and hair to the demoman. Demoman is the sword class, and no effort is required to make it an eyelander skin, and second white anime hair for the demoman would be unintentionally hilarious.

I think it's because they wanted to avoid the mindless "Omg they're forcing me to buy the game!" rage that comes with every promo. Also, it might be because the promos aren't really important to anyone but the people who are interested in buying the game.

They'll get us yet another nail. Don't worry.

I can see that. Advertising the promos less will help them serve their purpose: to give a little extra something to the people who actually like games like the Witcher.
I'm glad that the "sponsored-by" weapons are done with, though. I'd rather just have a Witcher skin for an existing weapon floating in the background of the game than have a set of actual weapons that are hard as fuck to get for about a week after their release. The Shogun update was great, but holy shit was it a pain in the ass to get those weapons for the week they weren't tradeable.

Isn't it fortunate then that the community, at least on the servers I play on, exercises self control when it comes to the art style? The game isn't as bad as the people on SPUF make it out to be. Just because there is an option to have a horrific hot-pink artstyle raper in the game doesn't mean it's commonplace.
Someone just mentioned to me that Valve may have remotely edited game_items.txt to have the blade use different sounds from the bat.
Can anyone with the weapon confirm this?

The sounds for the sword had definatly changed, they sound more like the eyelander now.
Any word on whether these will be craftable/findable later?
I'm a fan of The Witcher but don't have the $67.50.

I think they will pull a Homefront and not even acknowledge the items until a month later then put them in the system, or they will be in the system the day the game comes out.
Although i dont see why the sword would be droppable, its just a reskin, along with the Fiscake, they both should just stay promotional.
I like the hair and the sword :D

We don't really know, it seems Valve is trying many systems to introduce promo items in TF2. They may pull out something entirely new.
But I'm glad that many of the recent ones are craftable (PvZ, Homefront) or at least always available (SpaceChem).
Doesn't break the game for me, not gonna uninstall or any stupid crap like that, but I'm still not happy to see more completely random, ugly shit thrown into the game.
Shouldn't have to :colbert: I paid good money for a visually pleasing, simple, team based game. I now have what is essentially a MMOFPS. With more items than game levels, more hats than weapons, and over half the weapons are fairly uninspired ("lol u can doo 5% moar dmg, but no crits XDXD" on about 6 weapons? please).
Guess what? The visually pleasing team based game is still there. You have some items that are capable of changing a class' entire playstyle and making things more interesting. With only the stock weapons this game would've gone boring INSANELY fast.
Oh, boy the game will be available tomorrow! Can't wait! Yeah, I've been waiting it since the announcement. The promo items are meh, to be honest, yet do like the medallion.
Nice work valve now the scout looks even more like a faggot

Just as Rong wanted him to be.
I like the hair and the sword :D
Woah, a lot of people disagree's.
Come on, they aren't that bad.
The only thing I dislike is that the sword has the exact same stats as the boston basher.
But it does look nice, but thats just my opinion so nvm
I would just like to mention that the Witcher contains a sex scene full frontal female nudity (a very awkwardly animated sex scene, with a surprisingly large amount of clipping) within the first few minutes of gameplay.
This game got a TF2 tie-in.
Pre-Order Battle Raper 5 and get the Dick-Sucker's Dong, for a limited time only!

I really can't tell if this is a joke or not because I have never seen that game. I hope its a joke.
If it's true, eww and it's bad to have promo's of this game.

The funny part is all the kids who got it for the hats don't know that. (And it's even funnier that they'll probably never even try playing it)

I'm surprised SPUF isn't exploding with kids talking about the virtual boob.
Then again, like you said, they probably will never see it.
can i still get this?
Shouldn't these be made tradable (and possibly craftable) now that Witcher 2 is out?
Any highly enough anticipated game on Steam will have its TF2 promotional items.
Because the question for Valve is why the fuck not? Why the fuck not to make more money?

Because making this money involves throwing out the ideals that made the game great in the first place?
Yeah, you late. Expect a lot of late cause you late with all the lateness up in this motherfucking lateville.
Ok, yeah, you're late with this. It was mentioned within the first 1/4 quarter of the new update thread.
Wow, Rattman sure likes rating people dumb.
Shouldn't these be made tradable (and possibly craftable) now that Witcher 2 is out?
Tradeable, they probably should be, but craftable, I don't think so, since the Three-Rune Blade thing is a reskin of the Boston Basher, just like how the Fishcake is a Dalokohs reskin.
