Though fists are my usual heavy melee of choice...
If you're that close to use fists Minigun would've outdmged them a long time ago
I love killing people with melee, it's surprisingly effective :v:
[editline]01:27AM[/editline]
Also, not everyone has the Shotgun equipped.
The Fire Axe might be a good choice when you have the Flare instead then.
You'll have a tool for possibly a silent instant kill, and for killing enemies under water.
The meat slaps are not silent. Just more quiet. And still, fire > fire ax with damage, I'd rather have my enemies be dead then "Silently" attempt to kill them. Your stealth element dies after the first hit, you might as well make sure it's a kill hit.
Underwater, you have a point, but that's your only real point. But so few maps have water and most of those maps don't even have enough water to have significant impact against the Pyro. It's a very, very situational advantage.

I always have flare and axtinguisher. You're right about underwater, but again I avoid that situation.

I do it on people that don't notice me, usually from behind, then clear the nearby area with crits minigun. But yeah the five seconds buff should be extended it's hard to get use out of it.
The only melee weapons that feel like sidegrades to me are ones that do other effects besides changing the melee stat, such as skullcutter slowing you down, the eyelander and sandman taking health, and the gunslinger changing your sentry.
Pyros
People who start meleeing and whine when they get shot
DR spies
Shitty teams
What's wrong with DR spies? Better than stand-100%-still-all-the-fucking-time spies.
People who use cloak and dagger. They do nothing but cloak and stand there watching everyone else do the work, and when they do try doing something they die by a pyro or something.
Snipers who wave at you.
Smug bastards...
Worse when they wave at you in a kill-cam when it's not a headshot.
Demoknights are what annoy me the most.
Next to his stickie launcher.
And people who constantly want the Equalizer nerfed so it's weaker then the shovel so they have no worries as Demoknights.
And people who constantly want the Equalizer nerfed so it's weaker then the shovel so they have no worries as Demoknights.
Yeah, equalizer vs eyelander is actually a pretty good match
If any good TF2 player knows something, it is that every second counts. What if a Pyro is strafing around you, burning you up, and you just can't seem to lock onto him with your primary? If you're using the KGB/Axetinguisher/Ubersaw, you are at a disadvantage. Axetinguisher crits wont work, and the slower firing rate will only prevent you from killing the other player in time. Even if you die of afterburn in the process of killing him, at least you were able to. What good is 5 seconds of crits/25% uber, in cost of life-saving time, if you die?
Keep an open mind. I use these weapons from time to time, but I don't see them as upgrades. So really, all weapons are alternatives.

Well said, sir.
Well said, sir.

Thanks. I'm not the best player around, but I know what loadout to use and when. It is adaptability that makes a good TF2 player good.
Pyros are not meant to take down other Pyros and charging an enemy Pyro with the Ax is a very dumb move honestly. Even if the first swing is silent, most likely they are at full health or at least enough to survive your hit, then they'll turn around and respond to your attack. At that range even the normal flamer has more DPS than the Fireax, and that's putting down the Backburner possibility.
Honestly you'd be better sneaking up with the shotgun at point blank since both take 3 shots at that range and the Shotgun has some range to it.
As for KGB vs Fists, neither are practical in-game, so it really doesn't matter either way. 20% is significant on the slowest melee in-game, so honestly it's just down to preference. But on defense once or twice I have made use of KGB crits. Its a very rare occasion but it is there.
on 2fort defense they get quite useful
Look I get that you personally find both sets useful, but some of us have adapted our play styles to be more efficient using just one of the weapons. You said that people saying that they're upgrades "annoys you", but for some of us they just are, no question.

That's probably a troll, just saying.
I hate having more than one sniper on my team.
I hate having more than one sniper on my team.
I hate seeing spies on my team sitting in a corner with the C&D in front of an empty and almost-capped point while the rest of the team is dead
I hate Spies who use the Ambassador, never get headshots, then give up on Spy as a class because they don't comprehend that unlocks aren't upgrades.
Also, rabid Spy checkers deserve a mention, you know, the ones that swing around like fucking elastic flails and don't give you any chance to hide. They piss me off.
As if the mini gun wasn't a pain, learn to play the game.
Neither of these make sense.
The god damn Gibus.

I only wear the gibus as pyro. You would not believe how many times people have bitched and moaned about it.
People who don't say thank you when you heal them, sandvich or medic.

I do this all the time.
When friendly pyro's don't airblast you when you are on fire.

I put people out 24/7 whenever I'm not flanking.
Pyros who don't know how to extinguish and airblast projectiles.
I'm working on this. I can easily airblast RL rockets but DH fucks me so hard. I am playing some dodgeball games to get better though.
Am I credit/pybro?
Oh and the thing that annoys me the most is those COD kiddy names with those ^ symbols and numbers.

If you are using the Fists, Fire Ax, or Bonesaw against an enemy Pyro with half a brain they will kill you unless they were damaged beforehand.
If I'm a heavy, mow them down with the minigun, it will swiss cheese them in a second.
If I'm a Pyro, burn them back, use the shotgun, or retreat. If he's already burning you and you try to hit him with the fire ax he will kill you, the flames do much more damage than the fire ax even against another Pyro.
If I'm a Medic, walk backwards and shoot needles. You move backward the same rate he moves forward, and the needles have more range. Not once has this failed unless I was doomed in the situation to begin with.
KGB vs Fists, ok fine, neither are used much anyway.
Axtinguisher vs Fire Ax is no contest, the only use you'll get from the Fire Ax is being trapped in water and there's very few maps that have enough water to make this useful, and honestly I'd rather have the Homewrecker because it'd make more use.
Bonesaw vs Ubersaw is an even worse comparison, the Medic has syringes and rarely needs to be in combat overall. Why chose swinging melee when you can get the same amount, if not more damage with range?
And the Ubersaw lets you get 25% uber out of it. Ubers are game changers, and just 1 smack instantly brings you 1/4 of the way there. I've ran into a crowd with 75%+ uber several times, smacked one person, and instantly popped an uber as a distraction allowing my team to run in and cap.
Sure, the Bonesaw does more damage than the Ubersaw per second, but you really don't need your melee much anyway, you might as well get a real benefit from it.
Honestly, these vanilla melees have a very situational advantage, it's not enough of an advantage to be considered balanced though. There's my 2 cents.
I hate how people on TF2 always try to tell you that you fuck goats.

I played on a server today and saw something I hoped I'd never see in this game. I really honestly believed I could go without ever seeing this thing that I have just seen. It is the horror that is:

I use it all the time on defense. Perfect for pestering medics.
Also, I hate it when I'm on fire and the medics don't heal me, all the pyros on the team are using the backburner, and the engineer hasn't built a dispenser.
I also hate the backburner in general. It shouldn't have a damage bonus, or random crits.
Mini-sentries on defence.
And four snipers on one team.
I've actually racked up quite a few kills and really helped out my team by using the mini-sentry on defense. Putting it in unexpected places can slow them down, and with a few shotgun blasts, I've taken down a heavy + medic before.
Usually, if I do that, I'll occasionally go back to another engineer's base and help them upgrade and all that.

FaN and Backburner are annoying, but well balanced. But I completely agree with you on the case of bad Medics.
But that's a rarer ocaission, even more often is bad Medic partners. Medic is my second most played class by like 30 minutes. I was playing TF2 earlier today and I cannot express how bad these partners were. 2 Heavies and 1 Huntsman Sniper, I had Kritzkrieg. I overheal everyone and then as the round starts the Sniper moves forward. I pop the kritz on him against an enemy Heavy Medic.
The enemy Heavy is left with severely low health but still alive. I run away to avoid dying and go and heal the other 2 Heavies. The enemy Heavy approaches the point, still low on health. BOTH OF OUR HEAVIES DIE. I try to finish off the enemy Heavy with needles only to find out that the 2 Heavies on our side did near to no damage to him......
That isn't the first situation with bad partners I've had before either. It's really, really, REALLY annoying.
But yea, @ mini-sentries on defense, it's surprising how efficient they can be. Then again, 100% accurate damage is always helpful, no matter how weak it is, and it builds in less than a second. Bad for long term defense, good for stopping those 2 Scouts about to push the cart into the bomb hole.
The only reason I ever use the FaN is because of that force jumping technique.
What pisses me off most is people screaming 'lolrofl 0wn3d n00b' even when the kill was shitty and terrible as hell, i.e. bad use of the FaN or backburner gibus pyros.
That reminds me, one of the people I encountered playing TF2 was a Soldier, a better than average Soldier who kept acting like he's uberpro. He was severely injured near the last point when we were on Defense and he instagibs me with a Crit Rocket and in-game he says "Devoured." And he starts saying that after every rocket kill he makes.... started to piss me off quite a bit.
^^^^ Yeah, that too.
And if i'm correct, this is Rated M after all...
That's a guide, not a law.
Most of us played Mortal Kombat or some other gorey game when we were younger.
But those didn't have microphones and online play so nobody could hear our shitty voices
.....good point. Where the hell do these kids get ahold of mics anyway? I haven't bought one simply because I don't feel like making the investement but I played TF2 for about a year not being able to talk before I even looked into mics.
