as mentioned on particular blue-and-orange boards, 'ironic shitposting is still shitposting'. I remember in these sort of threads in years past, there was one guy...I think Dannehood? Can't remember the name, but he would come in with these expensive obnoxiously painted items and 'le kill your mom' 'xd your a faggot' named/desc'd items.

oh, it's fine, it's just that typically in TF2 item threads here on Facepunch, satire/parody/ironic names are usually frowned upon. At least, that's what I've seen.

Ironic items can work, they just have to be good. :v:

If it's original and funny, then it has worked and can be considered good. If it's just a copypaste of every other joke ever, then it doesn't work and it isn't good. HARDSCOPE doesn't work because its been done a thousand times before and it's just not that funny.

Ironic items can work can technically work if you're actually funny. Ironically idiotic/troll names are lame 99% of the time, though, and it's because they're overdone. I mean that in two ways:

1. I've seen so many terrible renames that refer to "MLG", "xD", "le", "pro", "noscope" - it's just old.
2. Usually you have to make it obvious that you're joking or else you just look like someone who's genuinely a jerk. And making it obvious usually refers back to the first point I made.

Names that make fun of extremely overdone memes have become an extremely overdone meme in themselves.

Sorry if I've hurt your feelings with my opinion, I am just really tired of the internet memes mindset.
I mean, I like making super horrible puns, but not the same ones over and over just to look cool in front
of those who do the exact same thing because they want to look cool and- It's an endless cycle of
shitposting.

Examples like Polandball, which I sometimes find funny when my history knowledge isn't lacking, but I
don't go around actually talking like the balls do in the comics. I don't go on tumblr and post my live
reactions on hilarious posts. I also don't like going on imgur and saying that I always upvote ass, trying
to be popular.

I am not going on a crusade against this, I'm just saying that in my own subjective view, these things
are in reality repulsive. These things are really contagious, which I find ironic because people who go
around saying X is cancer obviously don't know that cancer is not contagious(Maybe some are but I
don't study the stuff?), and obligate me to make fun of these things so I won't be like that.

And by making fun I mean making brief satirical remarks and not dwelling in them, because, as
lavacano and TheFishyG were trying to say, 'Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.' All I've done was
provide my subjective opinion, but you seem to be a bit tense about this, so I cleared a few things
up here.

I think in this case the comparison to cancer is likening it to a festering tumor, slowly draining the health of something once good. It grows and spreads and consumes.

The general rule of thumb for what is acceptably funny seems to be "the joke lost it's charm five minutes before you learned about it."
