The idea of the AR2 having a wooden stock is ridiculously absurd to me.

well done valve
Fuck, I was really hoping more 1997 Alpha content would surface someday. broken dreams... empty promises...
Good luck to all the Half-Life 1 Alpha and Beta recreation mods, because Valve over here lost pretty much 99% of all their beta/alpha assets. I doubt we've lost all hope in getting more content, I bet some tech junkie has a old CD filled with some beta content lying around somewhere.
Fuck, I was really hoping more 1997 Alpha content would surface someday. broken dreams... empty promises...
i mean, another situation like the v052 release could happen, but chances for that seem slim
Fuck, I was really hoping more 1997 Alpha content would surface someday. broken dreams... empty promises...
I would actually disagree. Sierra and Valve sent out a lot of press discs for Half-Life from various states of development. It's only a matter of time until they all surface, assuming these people still have their copies and didn't send them back to Sierra or Valve. The rest is all up to our creative minds.

So what is VSS exactly? Did they lose the history of making the game (as in, text describing what edits were made when, what files were created when), or all the actual builds they compiled?
Ted barney mesh found! Too bad there are no textures for it :(
I know about the earlier meshes found in the .max files in the SDK, but where did you find this? It appears that you opened this in milkshape, so it must be a .smd
They lost the content off the VSS yes, but they still have every bit of content that was on every employees machine when they went and rebuilt the file structure after the explosion. They didn't specify how much content it was, but Erik Johnson followed up my response of "That's gonna make some people unhappy" with "Well we still have a snapshot from that time". Food for thought.
I know about the earlier meshes found in the .max files in the SDK, but where did you find this? Only problem is that the whole mesh is assigned to one single bone. Although that's probably because of a missing .vph file. I wonder how I can make one of those...

Food for thought.
I mean I can't really blame them, this was before there were good and freely available VCS solutions, and VSS was known to be unstable. But it's a damn shame, I doubt they did weekly or even monthly backups of the stuff; So likely that history is gone for good, except for the small snapshots of content that made it out of the studio on CD and floppy (Both of which have a limited lifespan before bit rot starts causing irreplaceable data loss). If people ever need reason as to why making as much Valve beta content public as possible is a good thing, just look at what happens when Valve is the only one responsible for it. If we don't preserve this shit, Valve won't.
Yeah. It was released with German Blue Shift.
So was it for Half-Life, Blue Shift, Opposing Force and Team Fortress Classic or just for Blue Shift? And do you know if it's available through Steam?

I'll have to wait until Thursday so i can access one of my school's computers that has the newest version.

Here it is highlighted: [T]http://i.imgur.com/Y1YOLKl.png[/T]
I should be more clear. It can only save to PHY. Here:
If you're using 1.1, you're using the wrong version, Valve used 1.2. How did you even get a copy of 1.1? I had a hard time getting 1.2, let alone 1.1.
So what is VSS exactly? Did they lose the history of making the game (as in, text describing what edits were made when, what files were created when), or all the actual builds they compiled?
Microsoft Visual SourceSafe was a data repository program that's no longer supported nowadays for this exact reason, it was unstable and shit, and when it crashed all the work was lost forever.
You guys know the valve.bsp map? It comes with a wad, with textures, most starting with "tesla" You see this? You see those orange things? It's "+0~tsla_lght5" (there's a darker version named +a~tsla_lght5) I've also noticed the machinery on the map looks like this picture of Prospero, even the textures. Now. You see this? 1. We have textures for Prospero 2. Prospero might have been called Tesla back then, or just a codename.
