maybe ep1 would've been seen in a better light if the story arc it kicked off was ever finished
lmao if I recall properly in some old interview gabe said they were aiming for an episode / 6 months even before ep1's release they had already failed that goal.
Alright i think it's time to release the CSGO Beta build :) Since i started working i couldn't find time to fix the only one big bug of the build but other than that it's fully playable.. If anyone can fix the issues below feel free to share the fixed build here but for now here's the CSGO Closed Beta 1.0.0.44 build 5163 (newer engine build). I've included readme file for launching the game/settings to play it with original beta settings. (Gameplay recoils and everything is untouched and are original) https://mega.nz/#!kl82hIjJ!XVQAScWAykZ-zrR1gTBE4NBB43wImbXe4ZeKgMboXVQ Since the old beta running on newer engine so many things were bugged but i've managed to fix the most of it. Here's the remaining bugs (which also available in readme file);
What did you do to get this working outside of a VM?
I have no clue if this is technically Valve Cut Content, but imma post this here anyway. Sean Vanaman (co-director of Firewatch) has just released a picture of an abandoned script from Google Sheets. This script was named "Henry & Delilah Dota 2 Announcer Pack" and has many references to Dota 2 Announcer sound files. This is just speculation, but I believe that this was possibly a Dota 2 announcer pack that was heavily requested by the fans of both Firewatch and Dota 2, but ultimately got scrapped due to unknown reasons... Gordon Freeman announcer pack when.
Digging through more trash Valve or any sane gamer doesn't care about: So here's a slide from a SIGGRAPH presentation from 2007, about shading in Source. It was probably shown here already. [t]https://pp.userapi.com/c639225/v639225812/c681/gKnqCVj5W_8.jpg[/t] In the background, you can see an older model of the Combine APC. But what is this thing next to the cement barrier? Looks like an ammo box, item_ammocrate entity. Very similar to the one from the leak: [t]https://pp.userapi.com/c639225/v639225812/c696/Ck245WabpVI.jpg[/t] But with a different texture, a green square with bullets (?) on it. The image appears to be taken closer to the release date, since the canals chapter in the leak is much less finished than that, and you can see the explosive oildrum model and it's the same as the retail one. Yes, there is a point a man is so desperate for content, they claw it out of old Valve's articles that on their own, have nothing ever to do with the leak.
I can see why they done that, it is barely noticeable from other crate models, non-ammo ones.
But wait, this is from a presentation from 2007? Did they accidently use an older build or something? I mean if they used retail HL2 but just used the wrong map it would still use the retail models so... It seems rather odd to use a older copy.

I remember it being posted years ago for some reason.
Is that all that's interesting about that screenshot? I remember it being posted years ago for some reason.
Last time I saw it someone was pointing out the earlier version of the APC model.
What did you do to get this working outside of a VM?
It's because it's running on a newer engine build of csgo which i have managed to remove the CEG from. Original beta's engine build is 4770, mine is 5163.. So it will have some changes from the original beta but i've managed to pull out the original settings and stuff from the beta and modified it to look like the original one. It still has major issues and i don't know how to fix them that's why i shared it on forums to find some solutions and repack it and re release it :) Side note: VM version csgo beta version is 10053 and i'm working on that one too :)

It just looks like low LOD to me.
Yesterday, I felt like I should go on another fact finding mission for Valve Cut Content. I decided to try and look for Warren Spector's lost Half-Life 2 Episode and thus why I ended up tweeting to Warren Spector about this episode here: https://mobile.twitter.com/GamerNumeroUno/status/838672584514232320 I actually asked him 7 questions total. 2 of which he only answered and whenever I sent a message asking about the game's specifics, he wouldn't answer them. I decided to delete those unanswered messages and not bother him anymore about this. Afterwards, I decided to see if Marc Laidlaw knew anything and could answer these questions, but for some reason, HE DIDN'T! Personally, I believe that something fishy is going on here. Marc has answered questions about cut content that is now obsolete, but the fact that he didn't respond to this (even though he was already tweeting shortly after I sent him the msg) is very mysterious... Combine the idea of Warren not going into any specifics and I believe that Valve is currently reusing some of the concepts for an existing project. I was originally suspecting Warren of keeping quiet about it because he is doing something with it, but now I'm guessing that he quickly emailed Valve about him talking about his lost episode and they said no. But now, combine this with Marc not answering my question, and this might actually be enough to prove that Valve is still working on the concepts of that episode. My theory is that these concepts are being reused for Valve's Half-Life VR project. In the AMA with Spector, he talked about the game using a magnet gun that was super complementary to the Gravity Gun and it was apparently really fun to use. Seeing this Magnet Gun in action in a VR title might not be so implausible as it would be a perfect way to solve puzzles and since it is believed that Half-Life VR is a spin-off involving a different main character (kind of like the lost episode as it was to also fill in the gap of the HL storyline). That is all I could find/think of.
Holy hell you guys surely have been busy. So many great stuff!
Holy hell you guys surely have been busy. So many great stuff!
Yep!
I kinda gave up mapping for the Beta, but seeing all this stuff has me really reconsidering.
I kinda gave up mapping for the Beta, but seeing all this stuff has me really reconsidering.
I like how you capitalize beta like it's your god or something.
I like how you capitalize beta like it's your god or something.
It is though
I like how you capitalize beta like it's your god or something.
There are many betas (especially on Facepunch) but this is The Beta.
Or y'know, maybe he got sick of answering your questions.
A famed writer has had enough with all his fanboys. And then the murders began.
Or y'know, maybe he got sick of answering your questions.
Uh...no. I have seen other people (i.e. Dindex) ask him many times and he has always been fine talking about valve cut content. And TBH, I've seen several other people talk about shit like hl3 info and he never responded. Simply put, if he can't answer any questions related to stuff currently in the works, then he won't talk about it. BUT, I guess anything is possible...
I'm pretty sure that once an employee leaves Valve, they're not allowed to talk about the work they did, unless it involves work for a game/program that already came out. If it's being used in something still in-development, then they can't talk about it. It's kind of like how things work when an employee reveals company secrets...

I'm always curious on why Valve re-uses the assets from the 2003 leak in some way or another.
Do we have any other concepts/versions of Combine headcrab canister launcher, except Lost Coast one?
I'm always curious on why Valve re-uses the assets from the 2003 leak in some way or another.
One reason could be placeholders, others because they are good in their current state... I guess.
