Vadim decided to take a break from GTA beta videos, and switched on HL?
No one can resist the urge of the beta, theres so much going on, and so much progress within the past months. Everyone is going for it
His GTA Beta videos are really fuckin' interesting. If you haven't watched them yet you should. If he would start doing HL beta videos he would blow up in this community. EDIT: God damn it Marphy.
His GTA Beta videos are really fuckin' interesting. If you haven't watched them yet you should. If he would start doing HL beta videos he would blow up in this community.
Probably would botch most of the information just like his L4D video.
Unique art of Hunter which was shown in "NAG" magazine (Feb 2007).
Here is the original artwork from my archive. [t]http://i.imgur.com/iQrtqq1.jpg[/t]
Someone needs to make that Hunter, it looks so cool! :cat:
PelPix's image:
late as hell but that looks more like the dreamcast in a level of graphics. :sbhj: not saying the dreamcast looks like shit though.
Does anyone know why a Benelli M3 is at the side of the 1997 cover?
Because Gordon is holding it on the title screen:
Oh that's what that is, I always assumed it was some metal bar he'd picked up off the floor
Because Gordon is holding it on the title screen:
tbh i thought the gun in the title screen is some generic nondescript shotgun. At least he's holding an actual SPAS-12 in HL2's stuff.
tbh i thought the gun in the title screen is some generic non-descript shotgun. At least he's holding an actual SPAS-12 in HL2's stuff.
To me, it looks like the shotgun on the side of the box. The shape of the barrel and grip are semi-similar, but not 100% identical. I guess this is because it was originally late concept art used near the game's release, so the gun isn't an exact replica, but that's just me... Just look at this comparison and you MIGHT see what I see:
Odds are the publisher hired an external contractor to make the box art so they just found any old shotgun.
I think I've found an earlier name for the Stalkers in RTB: UP. In the 'Old Friends' vignette, Dr. Kleiner says something the caught my eye: Stalkers are essentially servants of the Combine, so I think the idea of 'Servitor' being an early name for them isn't a stretch.
Its been said many times by valve peeps that those little stories were not cannon an simply made as material to draw inspiration from. So take everything in them with a huge grain of salt
Its been said many times by valve peeps that those little stories were not cannon an simply made as material to draw inspiration from.
They help give us little insights into the general mindset Valve had for the game at the time the pieces were written, however insignificant they may be.
That is true, I've just seen people dig WAY TOO DEEP into them before
Its been said many times by valve peeps that those little stories were not cannon an simply made as material to draw inspiration from. So take everything in them with a huge grain of salt
I'm fully aware of that, but the vignettes semi-reflected the current state of story development and the ideas being thrown around by the writers at the time, and the Stalkers apparently had been around since the Hyperborea-start era according to Laidlaw (and all the vignettes we have are post Hyperborea-start era), but it's entirely possible that they went through different names until they were fleshed out more. As Laidlaw once said about the Advisors: "Those things were just something weird Ted had made, I don't think we had any particular purpose in mind for them for a long time...they certainly weren't called Advisors until I needed some kind of name and backstory for them."
Its been said many times by valve peeps that those little stories were not cannon an simply made as material to draw inspiration from. So take everything in them with a huge grain of salt
Mark once said to me, and many times to other people that if it's not directly contradicted in their game, you can consider it canon if you want. And he said that about things fans made up for mods. So to me, the stories written by him personally definitely have place in the modern lore. There is nothing strange if Kleiner had a job in c17. As much as it's completely unexplored in the game, a city like that can't just "work" without smart people doing smart things, just like in real life. Stalkers only work in the citadel and they are dumb. Soldiers and CP's are just force, only real smart aliens are advisors and I doubt they give a fuck about micromanagement. The only real choice left is people who do jobs, from civil engineers to workers.
Where was that excerpt on the Citadel being a giant laser cannon? Kinda reminds me of the Overwatch Nexus Suppressor.. Uncanny, eh?
Stalkers are essentially servants of the Combine, so I think the idea of 'Servitor' being an early name for them isn't a stretch.
Servitor is a real word. It basically means servant. He was just saying they'd enslave him.
Servitor is a real word. It basically means servant. [editline]15th March 2017[/editline]
Might be, but it might also be also one of the workers in the citadel concept art, we can't be sure.
There's really no evidence that they existed outside of simple concepts, and again, why capitalise it if he's referring to something as simple as that? Who knows, maybe if we had any Hyperborea era maps we might find monster_servitor entities :v:

Like children, factory-sitting, and worker. Hell he even might been also referring the citizens actually. Like I said, we can't be sure.

The stenographers chasm wasn't even around at the time this vignette was written, and again, why capitalise it if he's referring to something as simple as that? Why use a word like 'Servitor' to describe something like that?
I know it's a real word, that's what I was saying, but then why capitalise it?
Good point.
Why does this look like not the retail citadel, and why does this look like it has a thick ass wall? I was trying to not be rusty as heck on hl2 but that cutout looks bizarrely out of place. Has anyone else noticed this? Also this path being blocked off doesn't look right. It's literally a floating brush of wood. Does anybody know what map is supposed to come after this? This is the part where your supposed to kill all the metropolice in this one area, and they just got machine guns, and you have the airboat, and you fire at that chopper in the tower, before going back around the place with your boat. Edit: Sorry for being an idiot, also Servitor is a really weird sci-fi dystopian thing to call something. Seems like a more fitting name than what we call Stalkers now. Maybe Servitor it's literally the name of a street and it's comparatively more ghetto than anywhere else? Cause you have these street names like Distribution lane and Taxation avenue, and such. IDK.
That's supposed to be Ravenholm
last time I checked it didn't have a massive skyscraper tall building.
