What exactly does the number tell me? I run your .bat in the HL2 Leak maps folder, but each map just has a (what seems to me random) number, there is no comparison-value whatsoever
I think it shows how many times the map was saved in Hammer. Hence the "versions"
Ok that makes sense here, because usually bsp version refers to this

I run your .bat in the HL2 Leak maps folder, but each map just has a (what seems to me random) number, there is no comparison-value whatsoever
As Gurluas said it's the number of times it's been saved in Hammer, it's good to know since we can compare it against older BSPs, and against the "mapversion" field in VMFs. An example of how it could be useful is in that post: since the HL2 devtest BSP versions matched with the EP1 devtest VMFs we know they haven't been modified, so now we know those are probably the original devtest VMFs for HL2 also. (there's always a chance they were changed some other way, but at least we know they haven't been changed in Hammer otherwise the version would be different) Would be nice if they embedded the "editorbuild" field in BSPs too since we could calculate a date from that, but sadly it doesn't seem to be in there.
Ok that makes sense here, because usually bsp version refers to this
Ah sorry for the confusion, maybe should have made it more clear. BSPver did actually extract that version number too, but I removed outputting it since it made the output look uglier IMO (in retail all the BSP versions are pretty much the same, not really much point outputting it anyway) EDIT: just realized you mentioned running it with the HL2 leak maps, IIRC the BSPs included with the leak were actually different to the VMFs in the WC pack, would be neat to find the version difference between them. EDIT2: had a quick look and damn, the BSPs are much later than the VMFs.. trainstation_01.vmf = 1066 while the bsp is 1785 If we say that 1 save is at least 1 change, that's at least 719 differences between the VMF and the BSP... wonder how that happened, guess the WC pack was stolen a long time before the beta itself?
It's just spamming CTRL + S.
Yo anyone wanna take over https://valvearchive.btr.pm/ ?
So it's just completely dead to pull from now? T_T
"sky_ep01_00" as shown on VDC: [t]https://developer.valvesoftware.com/w/images/9/96/Sky_ep01_00.jpg[/t] And the actual version from game files: [t]http://i66.tinypic.com/aemtky.png[/t] Where did the other texture come from?
The first one is what it was originally, the latter replaced it with the 2010 update. It doesn't match the HDR skybox, I suppose it's some older version they left in accidentally?

The VMF gives information about when map was worked on/created/last edited. So ultimately it's just an extra curious data point. [editline]28th March 2017[/editline]
The WC map pack was leaked before they started a ton of final work on the maps to get them retail-ready. It seems like the last year before the release was just insane overtime mapping and generally getting stuff together-ing. By the way! If you can generate a list of map version numbers for all retail maps (EP1, EP2, Half Life 2), I can see if I can figure out their dates from that. I think there's a way to establish the date when map was created based solely on mapversion (and statistics in form of previous versions of the same map).
Ah, well I guess it's better this way anyway, since now we get two different versions of the maps to play on :P
By the way!
Heh funnily enough I've just been working on that, well a spreadsheet of them anyway. It lists the versions of all the VMFs/BSPs I can find for the beta/HL2/EP1/EP2, and shows the difference between each version. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16o_eysxn-Uiqfq2Xgzw7d8TC5zLUhrxRHcsY7ZzXGNU/edit?usp=sharing Use the tabs at the bottom to switch game. Also sadly don't have the original EP1/EP2 BSPs with me and not sure where to find them, but if I manage to get hold of them I'll add them to the list. You should be able to copy the mapversions straight from the spreadsheet, but if you'd rather a pastebin or something let me know. That also reminds me: there was a pastebin someone linked before which was a list of all the leaked VMFs and their map version, estimated build date, etc. Looks like it's been removed now though.. knew I should have grabbed it while I had a chance.. Was up at https://pastebin.com/NsgPqNQh, "Filename,Editor build,Estimated date,Map version" is the only part I have from it in my history. If someone can repaste it that'd be appreciated :) EDIT: also forgot to mention, after seeing the X360 EP1/EP2 maps compared to the leaked VMFs, it looks like the recent leak was from the X360 version, just like the HL2 leak was also... maybe I should try comparing the portal leak next

Here's the latest one I think: https://pastebin.com/Ci8q2q4R (it includes the recent leaked maps too)

Also I've updated that spreadsheet with the Portal versions, seems like the VMFs aren't from the X360 version for this one since they all seem to match up with the latest PC files. Makes me wonder how they patched in the party escort bot though, mapversion has barely changed enough from the X360 one.. guess it was a script change or something?
http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/28/15077746/half-life-2-maps-leak-warren-spector-episode-three omg we're famous there's literally a screenshot of my shitpost dump of all the maps
Update on the archive https://valvearchive.btr.pm/ We didn't expect it to come to this but the Valve just aren't replying to any of our emails requesting negotiation. They wanted the largest part of the archive taken down (40GB of the 59GB) and without that there's not much point in calling it an archive anymore if half of it is missing. We don't want any legal trouble with Valve so this is the best course of action for both of us. The majority of the "legal" stuff will end up on archive.org eventually but if you still want to download parts of the archive you can access it in the #downloads section of the VCC discord. Everything must go!
So Valve is basically saying they don't want the history of the maps and assets preserved. Why wouldn't they want these archived?
So Valve is basically saying they don't want the history of the maps and assets preserved. Why wouldn't they want these archived?
It's a bit more complicated than that I'd say.
If they're made aware, the legal department has an obligation to take action. In legal precedent regarding IP, complacence is permission. The only way you'll keep the archive up is if it's hosted somewhere that totally scoffs copyright law, or you keep it nebulous in systems like torrenting. It's unfortunate, but 100% the standard.
So Valve is basically saying they don't want the history of the maps and assets preserved. Why wouldn't they want these archived?
If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd say they have an anti-preservation boner. I'd point out that they lost all of Half-Life's history prior to its release, they lost the only fully intact version of the Half-Life source code just a bit back, and now they're fucking the archival of HL2, except I'd put "lost" in quotation marks because conspiracy theory.

The less they have, the easier it is to just up and say "We would but it's all been lost to time" re. the next iteration of the HL franchise someday
It's like publishing indecent photos from a party or your children find out your truth (you wanted to forget forever). Valve also wants to protect his intellectual value, imagine that Valve is a real person. He also wants to hide vulnerabilities that competitors and media can more easily hit. You all once again put Valve in a stupid situation. Now they can not escape this bondage. Now number two, you put a certain person who shared all of you. He knew it was forbidden content and it is not exactly pleased with all of you. I tend these thoughts, he will cease to cooperate themselves forever. Polygon & VCCWiki articles disclosed all the cards. Thirdly I think will soon be close (without notice) to delete modification with forbidden content (to any mods of recovery of beta does not shine "Steam Greenlight", "Steam Direct").
I understand them not wanting people to see their half-finished work. It's like knowing people are rifling through your trash. It's just creepy.
What about the list of stuff from Jackathan that they'll consider to let it stay public?
I'm sorry but i think you forgot to include the most important one; JBMod
I have corrected the image in my post ;)
Well RIP Combine Overwiki. It's down. I do believe that our world is ending. Nice knowing, you fellows!
Well RIP Combine Overwiki. It's down. I do believe that our world is ending. Nice knowing, you fellows!
There are issues with sessions after the update of PHP that was required for some parts of ValveTime.net to work. Hopefully when we upgrade MediaWiki it will work fine, going to start doing that pretty soon but I don't know how difficult it will be - considering it will be a jump across 8 major versions released over multiple years.
Well RIP Combine Overwiki. It's down. I do believe that our world is ending. Nice knowing, you fellows!
Might have been down for maintenance or a server issue. It's fine for me now.
Either way, it seems that Valve is making it harder for us to archive cut content, EVEN THOUGH GABE SAID THAT IT WAS FINE IN THE INTERVIEW
Whoever is facing the legal pressure via E-mail should Forward/CC replies to Gaben, at the very least it's a direct way of letting Valve know this isn't OK.

Combine Overwiki experiences constant troubles, whatever. Valve Archive destroyed by the evil corporation. Hl2-beta never recovers from the maintenance update. Certain mod maker stopped working on their mods due to a certain space opera Action RPG being released. The beta world is crumbling.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/otpv0b626csv8tl/ep1_ep2_vmf.7z here's the original link btw (original name without some furry shit) (EP1, EP2, Lost Coast and other stuff Mappack/Map sources)
Is there any chance to get this re-up? Thanks in advance
