All it needs is one letter to completely change its meaning.
Fartistic?
Fartistic?
Fantastic ass-kicking, Doc!
(and to my knowledge, the only 2 images we have of the hazard course in it's beta state!).
By the way, the second picture in good quality already found in a Korean and Japan magazine for October 1998.

Been lurking this thread for a while. Felt like it was about time I contributed something so I thought "Hey! I wonder what would happen if I plugged those seemingly unused citadel sounds from the beta into the final game's soundscape file?" :wideeye:
These are the screenshots from the pdf. How did OddDoc get the higher-res versions?

Probably a stock sound
Probably just used a resizer like waifu2x or something. It's still crappy quality looking.
I went and extracted the original JPEGs from the PDF, the screenshots are a lot more compressed than the versions he posted.

:wideeye:
Oh neat! Do you have a script for this?
Here, I whipped together this modified soundscapes_citadel.txt and included my (slightly) higher quality sounds, contains pretty much everything you heard in the video but I also didn't replace any of the retail citadel ambience either, the result is an extremely creepy and disconcerting atmosphere (the sudden random mechanical bangs and electronic screams/voices in particular can be quite startling), also works in EP1.
Oh neat! Do you have a script for this?
I do but Kyle beat me to the punch so I don't think there's any point in releasing it now :v: I'll keep on experimenting with it and possibly release some cool stuff in the future, though. I've been thinking of mapping a mockup of what this version of the citadel could've looked had it been finished.
Just in case if anybody hasn't heard about yesterday, valvetime contacted Retrogamer that if they could release HD versions of the screenshots shown in one of their articles. Not only that but released two unused screenshots that took place in the coast and one of the town maps. Beta project already announced the screenshots, if you're wandering. Also what hapenned between 2003 and 2004 with the texture quality?
These are quite recent. Definitely 2003. Also what hapenned between 2003 and 2004 with the texture quality?
I disagree. Maybe one or two of them are from 2003, but some of them are for sure from around 2002, specifically these ones: [T]http://www.valvetime.net/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fvalvetime.net%2Fattachments%2Fscreen01_thumb-jpg.25875%2F%3Ftemp_hash%3D4f0f605a8049fdc6ab0712ba9e54cc25&hash=97620aae362deab251c1a40d0b4eee5e[/T] [T]http://www.valvetime.net/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fvalvetime.net%2Fattachments%2Fscreen03_thumb-jpg.25877%2F%3Ftemp_hash%3D4f0f605a8049fdc6ab0712ba9e54cc25&hash=e8833566b471399f7952a9dbea5ec1e1[/T]

Beta how exciting :garryspin:
It's actually interesting how these two screenshots have old hud color (the pale yellow one), which I thought was used only as a test

beta is pretty good tbh
The myth. The legend. The Beta
So, we all remember the rampage that Restellarous went on about two weeks ago, after he posted the directory listing of TF2:BOA? Well, in that directory listing, are two things that REALLY caught my eye: HYPER_001.BSP! If this was actually in the TF2:BOA directory in early 2001, I think this makes it completely possible that these two screenshots from BOA actually take place IN hyper_001, rather than just using some of the same assets! Marc confirmed this apparently looks like early borealis interiors, but it seems this actually IS the real deal, rather than just another map made for BOA using the same assets/textures [t]https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/302232072284798977/318513808123363328/ship1.jpg[/t] [t]https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/302232072284798977/318513805028229130/ship2.jpg[/t]

I mean these tf2boa file listings.
