I mean these tf2boa file listings.
I'm not saying it is real, i'm just basing that post off of the possibility that it is.
Well, in that directory listing, are two things that REALLY caught my eye
So uh, what's the other thing?
Or did you just make a typo?
So, we all remember the rampage that Restellarous went on about two weeks ago, after he posted the directory listing of TF2:BOA? Well, in that directory listing, are two things that REALLY caught my eye:

HYPER_001.BSP!
If this was actually in the TF2:BOA directory in early 2001, I think this makes it completely possible that these two screenshots from BOA actually take place IN hyper_001, rather than just using some of the same assets! Marc confirmed this apparently looks like early borealis interiors, but it seems this actually IS the real deal, rather than just another map made for BOA using the same assets/textures

That would make those screenshots the earliest visual data we have of the Hyper/Borealis. Even before nov_bor_001.

I posted two screenshots of the listing, but only focused on one.
question
wasnt TF2:BOA later re-imagined into Day Of Defeat?
question

Those were, like, totally different projects. One was Valve's commercial continuation of a Quake mod, the other was a newly developed mod built independently on the GoldSrc engine.
Team Fortress 2's HUD from circa 1999:

I may be late to post, but when I checked Gamer#1's twitter he retweeted of some guy annoucing that he had some portal, HL2, and maybe TF2 unseen or unused content. This might of been discussed in the VCC discord that I got banned from. But for the people that havn't heard about this, this is worth checking out. Figured I'd make a video for RainFall trying to match the pace of the Office Complex demo showed off at E3 1998.

I dont know if its some kind of post processing, but I love this blue-ish color correction you have in all your media. Makes the game sharper, and prettier.
Oh its quite simple actually, and its a great way to improvise color correction in GoldSrc! When your lighting the room, make every light a varying shade of the same color, I'd recommend using point lights for this (I use point lights in all of my maps) but I reckon using texturelights would work aswell. (sorry for the late response!)

I WAS going to post that info, but then I remembered that it was covered in the past, so I didn't even bother. The models, textures and full player mesh still look pretty cool though...

man, that old portal screenshot makes me nostalgic for when aperture science could be taken seriously
My memory is vague... was there a male Portal playermodel mentioned in global_actors.txt...?

I have my doubts - one of the maps in the listing was dustblow2

Dont some developers include jokes in filenames during development? even I've worked on stuff where I named it random dumb/crude shit, before changing it to what it's actually supposed to be after im done with it

Like Rockstar in GTASA, who named the Country Rifle 'cuntrifle' :v:
man, that old portal screenshot makes me nostalgic for when aperture science could be taken seriously
I don't think it was ever meant to be taken seriously.
I don't think it was ever meant to be taken seriously.
I think he meant portal 1
I don't think it was ever meant to be taken seriously.
p1 was scary up until the cake shit happened
then it turned into a meme game and p2 sorta could never get rid of that feeling.
And that's what made Portal unique and successful, nobody expected that level of humor the Orange Box sidegame.

That's a really interesting design choice for a supposedly 'realistic' game. Looks more like something out of Quake 2.

To be fair, this HUD design was used when TF2 was in its 1998-99 "Valve's Team Fortress" phase, when realism was not the game's top focus, unlike the 1999-2000 (2001?) "Brotherhood of Arms" era.
Also, it would be really neat if someone is able to get that HUD working on retail HL1.

That makes sense, consitering how very Quake-inspired TF2 is.
That makes sense, consitering how very Quake-inspired TF2 is.
Well of course it was inspired by Quake! Team Fortress itself was originally a mod for QuakeWorld AND the first version of Team Fortress 2 was also QuakeWorld mod (the direct sequel to the original mod).

I'm aware that Team Fortress started as a Quake mod. What I wasn't aware of was that TF2 was at one point a Quake mod.
Also what hapenned between 2003 and 2004 with the texture quality?
Valve probably realized that the textures looked like ass compared to the rest of the game and reworked them.

The quality switch happened earlier and had to do with change to the new material system as far as I know.
Facepunch, I need your help.
Remember the 2012 Portal 2 "Potato fools day" ARG? I've been trying to locate the original TGAs from that ARG that contained a variety of portal 2 concept art. However, I have not succeeded in this, as the only link I've found to an archive of them has been dead since 2012.
So, would any of you guys be able to reupload these TGAs somewhere?

That looks really neat. Too bad I'm not into Dota 2.
Does anyone have the track that's at the start of this trailer (the gman scene)?
OldschoolStory passed Greenlight. :badzing:
