I literally removed the non-steam version from my files and installed the workshop version. It still works fine for me. Hell, other people who downloaded the workshop version are claiming that it's working perfectly fine for them!
there's too many issues with synergy workshop system really. it is not fully polished
Have you guys really all just been bamboozled by Restel's post? I think everyone here has fallen trap to getting excited early a little too often, we really should just wait for his next post and reserve judgement until we get a bit more info.

Because that is insanely weird. I, in my experimenting with random ass things, end up renaming models all the time without de/re compile and they work perfectly fine and I've never heard of anyone having an issue like you are.
Does anyone have a link to HGrunt's Vertigo fix? hl2-beta.ru doesnt have it anymore.

Somehow I managed to completely overlook the presence of mechanical floor in vert_03 and didn't know vert_04 existed until after releasing the fix. Alo, vert_04 is so unfinished its not worth it. It just drags the whole Vertigo chapter. So dont worry, your fix is perfectly fine without it.
