• Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication
In the classic Smissmas story "The Gift of the Magi", a girl sells all of her hair to a hair warehouse to buy her boyfriend a watch chain, but in a shocking twist, he looks at his watch and remembers she's bald and it's time to break up with her. That's when the Magi show up, and it is a BLOODBATH. The point is, giving people gifts can bite you in the ass. Too much potential for twist endings. So this Smissmas, why not sit back, scroll down, and leave the gift-giving to us.
Wishful thinking, but if they really do put out a Major Update before the end of the year- as Driller told Geel they would, and as many in this thread are speculating they might- the blog does have some language implying that could be the case. Of course, I could also be grasping at straws and not wanting to acknowledge that this year is going to pass by with only one Valve-made Major Update and the TF Team has essentially baited and told us to eat a dick for Smissmass.
What did you guys expect honestly..
an update they should've been working on or at least planning a while before meet your match was announced
Why did they add more Sniper and Demo taunts

Here is the thing: They told us they are working on something else for Halloween, so it'll be smaller. Expectations were lowered - Situation cleared. Smissmas though? The Update that was always large, gameplay-impacting? How can you skip that and not tell anyone about it? I don't want this to be the real deal - surely there must be a jape somewhere? I'm just gonna lay it down.
Well happy they put in granary and badlands back to the comp mode. But why the fuck get rid of Snakewater? Also pleased with the casual changes
I think the most gut-wrenching aspect of this whole sordid ordeal is that r/tf2 is collectively adulating Valve for making minor adjustments to Casual that should have been implemented months ago in a minor update. How are they so easily contented? Is it simple stupidity, or is there something even more nefarious at play?
because the game is still fun and some people are fine with that
But why the fuck get rid of Snakewater?
yeah, this surprised the hell out of me. that map is EVERYWHERE
With the launch of an official Competitive mode, years in the making, I had actually hoped that the TF2 team would give half a shit in trying to balance their game. It now looks like we'll have to wait months and months between balance updates that, if MyM was anything to go by, are full of bizarre and utterly detached changes that hurt the game more than help it (RIP, Righteous Bison).

Where in the stage of post-Smissmass grief are YOU at, MUS? Denial (This can't actually be happening.) - Rate "Agree". Anger (Valve has disappointed me for the last time. Fuck this.) - Rate "Disagree". Bargaining (There's gonna be a real major update before the end of the year!) - Rate "Optimistic". [This and Anger are where I'm fluctuating between.] Depression (There's no hope left for TF2.) - Rate "Dumb". Acceptance (This is what it is.) - Rate "Late".

The year is 2030, the geopolitical landscape has dramatically shifted for the worse, global warming has reached an all time high, diseases once thought eradicated have returned, humanity is on the brink of destroying itself. Then, one day, the tf2 blog is updated for the first time since 2017 ¨Hey guys, we are pleased to announce the new TFComics issue!¨ ¨Crickets chrip¨
The TF2 team needs to communicate with us more, thats all there is to it The Pyro update must be taking up a lot of time and resources if this was the best we could get for Chrimbus. That's why I argued a few pages ago a second party dev team might be beneficial, or at least a PR team for the TF2 team that updates us on what is going on behind the scenes The comic isn't gameplay related at all but if you take into consideration how late each chapter of the comic has been released and how lackluster the last couple "major" updates have been, it paints a pretty big picture on Valve's attitude toward TF2 One of there biggest game modes, MvM, hasn't been updated in three years, and there was tons of hype and speculation leading up to it's release that seemed like it was going to add an extra layer to the game. They even went as far as to make ARGs for it That all said, the community is what is keeping TF2 alive. It's very much a legacy game now, and I wish Valve would just come out and tell us "yea guys, we don't have very much else planned for this game so just expect minimal or community focused updates throughout the rest of it's lifespan"
Sure. If it's taking fucking ages, just let us know that it's taking fucking ages. The backlash is worse when they don't let us know anything and we expect the update now. Tbf, maybe it's coming soon, but people are still disappointed.
Why did they add more Sniper and Demo taunts
I am partially to blame for this...... HORAY! :v:
you ruined your joke with the half life 3 addition how do I un-rate a post
Stupid question, but how do I rate a post? I wanted to do that for a while.
Stupid question, but how do I rate a post? I wanted to do that for a while.
post more, newblood
Is there a cvar for the maximum acceptable ping setting?
Found them: tf_custom_ping_enabled 1 tf_custom_ping
I am partially to blame for this...... HORAY! :v:
well, you are one of the few people making good taunts...just start spicing it up with new classes, I guess? also, despite my feelings on the update, your new Demo taunt is a must-buy for me. good job getting it in- in fact, good job to all the content creators who got their work in the game for Smissmass! despite the anger I'm feeling at Valve right now, I'm still happy to see the content creators in our community rewarded by having their items implemented into the game. thanks, guys! [editline]21st December 2016[/editline]
Also you were right. I reedited it.
the "crickets chirp" part is also unnecessary, it adds a flavor of laughing at one's own joke, which is almost never a good idea but you can keep your funny rating regardless, you got a chuckle out of me the first time I read it

Oh, apparently the CELT voice codec is now default for all game servers. So that's nice.
Uhh.. Good job Team?
Oh, apparently the CELT voice codec is now default for all game servers. So that's nice.
I don't know why, but the new CODEC feels out of place in TF2 for some reason. I don't know if it's just because I'm used to the old CODEC or what.
The new codec makes me sound distant, and I can't increase my mic gain any further.
"Oh, I still have my stocking from last year or whenever, so I'll go ahead and open this one. Neat, they're giving out giftapults again! I have over 1500 items in my backpack, certainly I can toss something nice at someone for the holi--" YOU DON'T HAVE ANY ELIGIBLE ITEMS TO USE WITH THIS TOOL. ...seriously? Why give them out if they're still broken, lol.
It's pretty dumb that both the giftapult and item to be gifted BOTH need to be tradable. What's the point? To prevent people from buying them on the market to give stuff away?
Oh, apparently the CELT voice codec is now default for all game servers. So that's nice.
How come that wasn't announced in the patch notes? That's a pretty big feature to silently slip into the update in a second patch. Might actually boot the game up and give Casual a shot
So yeah how about that overwatch christmas update.
How come I haven't seen a post where someone goes digging through the files yet? Let me see those sweet hidden code snippets so we can retain even the slightest bit of hype.
