Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication
First off: You may hear stuff about "IceFrog is the man behind Dota 2" and "Hidden Path made CS:GO",
I didn't hear about that stuff, all I know is that these two games are Valve's responsibility to update and support. I don't play Dota 2 nor CS GO, so I don't know much and thus can't speak accurately about them. But what I do know is that the both communities are angry at Valve for their lack of communications and lackluster updates just like we are.

Secondly: You may feel VR is just a gimmick and/or fad, and you're welcome to that opinion, but merely because you think it's a waste of time does not mean everyone else feels the same. VR has some exciting possibilities and I'd much rather Valve near the helm than Oculus-Facebook.
I have no problems with Valve developing on VR actually, but what I do have problems is the way Valve handles the development by taking away people from teams that are still developing and supporting their current existing games rather than having a dedicated team for it. This results in the other teams serverly lacking in manpower to continue doing what they're supposed to. There shouldn't be a trade off just for the sake of developing a new project, They have 350 employees mind you, if they need more people for development of VR, they should hire more people instead of leeching off from teams that are still working on an existing project.
Third: It's easy to forget that Valve also have the behemoth that is Steam to maintain. And yes, while I'm sure you can point fingers at the recent admittedly lacklustre sale and laugh, you cannot deny both the impact Steam has had, and how much work it takes to keep it running somewhat smoothly.
Again, 350 employees. And lemme remind you that Steam has been around since 2004, for 12 years, Valve has been running it without affecting development of their other projects. If they can do so for 11 years, what's making it so difficult for this year?
Lastly: EA buying out Valve? Seriously? You're talking about Consumerist's "Worst Company in America" twice-winner EA? SimCity 2013-always-online EA?
Twice winner for the year 2012 and 2013 mind you.
And whoopty fucking doo, guess what's this year?

This has got to be the most bizzare Promo I have ever seen
wonder if there are people buying it just for the taunt
Kind of disappointing that a $200 TF2 figure gets one of the most mediocre cosmetics in the game as a promo while a cooking tool gets an actually decent taunt.
decent
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Currently available for purchase and shipping within the U.S. only. $199
Guess not many people will buy it just for the taunt unless they live in the US and have $199 to spend
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Even if it's mediocre I'd still take a taunt I can just stick into a slot than a cosmetic I'll never end up wearing.

cant you just buy the taunt seperately anyway?
cant you just buy the taunt seperately anyway?
The normal version, yeah, but the special Version seems to be locked behind the purchase.
Either way - any chance for an Update this week?
Why was any effort put into that promo at all?
Why cant we put effort into actual updates?

whats the difference?
whats the difference?
Different shiny table and different cooking pot, you'd be surprised by how many people will buy it just for the promo item.

I'm curious if there's actual footage or video of it in action?

All we have is this as far as I know:

- Genuine Boiling Point vs. Table Tantrum
- "Take your anger and cooking to the next level. Which is the floor." vs. "Win debates like ancient philosophers in the time before language but after tables."
- Icons are vertically swapped (I think the Joule actually might have it in the thumbnail, but it's too small to tell)
- Joule model and "ding" when the taunt is pressed akin to the Joule dinging when your food is cooked
that's it
did u buy a $200 food machine for a videogame taunt
People buy video games and machines for their original purpose, you know. Not all of us are interested in ~supra rar itemz~ that come with them.

a nice christmas gift for the sister and brother-in-law who enjoy cooking
though I won't lie, I was going to get them an anova until I saw the promo. a gift for them and a gift for me :)
Has only the Joule-firm made an announcement about this, or did we get anything from TF's side? Pretty much no one is aware of this Promo happening, and normally Promos are announced largely afterall - even making it into Major Update pages.
This Promo on the other hand wasn't even noticed in the Patch notes.

your joule email has the post text of "PSST: Do you play Team Fortress 2? Buying Joule gets you access to a special taunt. Get it here."
s'about it, though.

That's interesting.
Thinking back to Disgea's Case, we had the same deal where the promos have only been announced by TF in the Major Update Page, and since the Joule Promo has yet to be announced, perhaps the Major Update isn't as far as we think?

Just when you thought promos for a chess board was crazy...

I can't speak from experience on using the actual product since I've never actually tried it. But hell, if it's a good piece for cooking at least some practical use can come out of it. Just kind of, out of the blue.
This is the most bizarre promo we've ever received, by a long shot. :v:
I'd like a cooking video animated in SFM with heavy as a cross promotion for the Joule guys
I'd like a cooking video animated in SFM with heavy as a cross promotion for the Joule guys
the tf2 team can barely make comics and new content and you want a SFM video?
For those that didn't know, Gabe Newell was a huge backer in financial support for the Joule.
The issue here is, there is absolutely no reason for valve to do this.
Valve is well off on their steam bucks. They do not need TF2 as a revenue, so it is not even worth the resources when they could dump time and money into Steam/Dota 2 and get a much higher payoff.
From a business perspective, ignoring tf2 is 100% logical, as much as that sucks for us. Thats what I see happening.
Is that strictly true though?
If they take on more staff, they can have both areas of their business maximised. They can keep running Steam as they do, AND have TF2 thrive and make money. Extra profit is always good.
Aren't you lucky. So you're telling me this team dedicates their entire work year on TF2 and nothing but?
What kind of drivel are you spouting here? There are games/IPs with better developer support that don't even make half of what TF2 makes in a year (the Killing Floor franchise being a good example). How are you justifying this statement?
There's a core group of TF2 devs who really care about TF2 and people join and leave as the development cycle progresses. Jill, Driller, EricS, and others I'm unaware of don't really work on anything besides TF2.

Something something fat joke something something Half Life 3 delayed *shot*
Man, the taunt animation itself is just disappointing. The description sounds like it's about an argument except Heavy is fucking psyched to have this table filled with food, which he flips over to eat. I was hoping for something like
this where he's tense during the looping animation and fucking pissed during the flipping.
On a side note, what do you guys think the next Campaign coin will look like?
If the next campaign is during the Pyro Update, then I hope it's the pyro's emblem.
