:v:
Which crate and how many keys??
Which crate and how many keys??
Multi-Class Crate's and 10 of them. i found out 2 other people unboxed this too, so i guess this is 3 out of 3 in the world :godzing:
So I had, like, 40 weapon cases + keys from Tough Break/Gun Mettle sitting around for months now, and when I saw the "double unusual chance" thing, I thought, "Wait, there's no Halloween weapon effects, so it'd default to regular weapon effects, right? NOW IS MY MOMENT" and unboxed them all. Not a single unusual. So I buy 10 unlocked multiclass crates, get an unusual on the 3rd or 4th unbox. Yay. Then just now, I buy a single multiclass crate for the sole purpose of triggering a trade I'd been waiting on. And I get an unusual from that one, too. What the hell is even this.

Is it just me or are the "halloween" cosmetics mostly very un-halloweeny? Apart from the maybe 3 or 4, the rest seem to be... just... pretty standard looking Cosmetics??? Heck, half of them seem to be "here is an animal and/or food source but in beanie form, spooky, right!?" No crazy exposed brains or cybernetics or glowing eyes or, really, anything much that says "Halloween". Heck, half of them were submitted as part of other community updates.

I think the Neutron Star is going to suffer as well due to how difficult that effect is to see. It's way to tiny IMO. Costums in real life are more about being something your not for the most part. Some of the items released though feel incomplete though to be considered Costumes... Ike's heavy's hair piece was part of a set for instance to give the appearance of heavy dressing up like the Street Fighter character Birdy. I would see that as an appropriate costume if they added the entire set, but only having the hair piece it kind of hurts the concept behind it sort of speak. I think the bare chested Medic piece also was part of a set wasn't it? I recall seeing a picture of it with a head/face cosmetic as well for a mad scientist look or something...
Little bit of a push away from Halloween, but I hope for an option in the future that allows us to have all the portraits at the top of the screen (at least for your team ) to be bunched together by class. Have all the scouts together, all the soldiers together, ect. Think it'd make it look more pleasant and organized, but also help better understand what you have to work with as well.
Did you e-mail the team about that at least? I also got a Halloween crate from a transmute, it was also untradeable, and I'm guessing it's uncommon to happen. Also, after about 40 crates, I managed to unbox an unusual Crone's Dome after roughly a few year dry spell, so if you want to unbox something, DO IT! Aside from Merasmissions not working right away, I really like this Halloween update
I've unboxed 20+ crates and got nothing good. I think this is my calling to just never unbox again. :suicide:
Well, least I know a Starstorm Sluber Merc's Mohawk Exists. It seems Multi-class hats are popular and I've already been on a server crapping out unusuals from them so maybe I'll get lucky and more will pop up before the event ends. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/242458830521787924/CA0F4B20CA6D7A5F83567EB2F783FE1D0F281A92/[/t] Now just gotta hope I can get one to trade it for one of mine. Might toss up few potential pieces ( even some I'd rather not part with, but would rather have that hat more ) for the sake of having a hat/effect that goes along with my name of Stargazer.
youd have to add alot, the mercs is a much higher tier hat
Here is my experience transmuting.
:v:
i cant belive theres already 5 of these
I won't lie. I secretly hope the unusual market gets all messed up because of this update

I mean I was pretty sure it was a lottery before, but now I'm convinced even more. The quality of many of the accepted items are somewhat lacking, that many of the items weren't tied to halloween at all, and that tons of incredible items are left out. You'd have to have a pretty strong argument to convince me that the TF team doesn't list all workshop submissions as a list to random.org, filter out the useless workslop material, and pick whatever items that appear at the top of the list.

I can't imagine they would ever do anything as zany as anything before last year, given there hasn't been restricted items for two years now. It was one of the best parts of Scream Fortress for me, closest thing you get nowadays are broken up sets or items that are veeery similar to ones added in updates past. We have two complete (or almost complete) TFC medic sets, we have two ponchos for the engineer now- I just want to know the tf2 team's reasoning behind these very obscure item choices lately. Not knowing WHY they choose certain items over ones that would make more sense for the occasion it calls for itches at me every once in awhile, it confuses me. I don't know about you, but I miss waking up or coming online to see a fun as hell class lineup with costumes raring to go wreak havoc in the newest Halloween map that they had in store for us, not to mention those sweet as heck valve-paintovers I get that some items look like costumes you'd wear at a Halloween party perhaps, but a lot of them feel like they would fit miles better in a seasonal update, rather than a holiday one like SF. I could easily see something like the chicken hat fitting more towards a fall case of sorts and the heavy tourism shirt in a summer one. Both are good items, yes, but I miss spooky. I miss cult classic movie references that you could get away with- things that scream horror. The lack of a proper Scream Fortress webpage made the appeal of said yearly event feel so lackluster this time around. I know the tf2 team has other plans they need to focus on with the pyro mym update, but I feel showing off their new bumpercar taunt in a five-minute sfm render with no halloween cosmetics on either class feels very rushed. This update feels so minor when it could've been a lot more. I'm happy with what we got, but it's not tf2's best. tf2 CAN do better and I wish they did, but hearing all of these bugs like the merasmissions not working and trying to even get in a quick halloween match on eyeaduct takes ages through matchmaking. Halloween/Scream Fortress shouldn't be dictated through matchmaking at all, it makes it feel less casual and a lot less fun. I got into tf2 because of Scream Fortress, I miss looking around maps for the incentive of getting a gift during this time of the year, and it's a little disappointing we don't have the option to this time around. I want to believe that tf2 can do better, but this update just feels cold. I'm thankful for new maps to play on and new items to get, yes, but matchmaking makes it difficult to get into a good server when I'd much rather choose my own, and bugs get in the way of getting rewards makes the only other option of having to buy a case for $10+ on the market. I just wish I knew why the tf2 team is going down the route they are lately. Got a little off-course with my reply, to which I apologize, but I felt like throwing in my two cents. Hopefully they look at the community feedback somehow and fixed what needs to be fixed soon, fingers crossed.

The only items that really fit the theme are the Spooktacles, Lil' Bitey, and Corpus Cranium. At least last year we got items that were made for Halloween, like the Scout pirate set and Death Racer set. Even though those aren't super Halloween-y, at least they were made for the update. Edit: A total of 7 items were accepted that were actually made and tagged for Halloween 2016. A few were Halloween 2015. The Mayflower case, in spring, had a total of 8 items accepted originally made for 2015's SF. So maybe we'll get a ton of SF 2016 items next spring :v:
youd have to add alot, the mercs is a much higher tier hat
I figured as much, I have at least 2 more 60 key unusuals I might toss up or even combin in order to get it as well. I'm hoping with how many of the unusuals are crapping out that they don't get too high. I saw so many being unboxed from multi-class crates yesterday and with only 4 effects to work with it may be possible to get it at a good price...
shocking news: valve does thing in their own way, only to learn their way is fucking stupid as the entire community groans on release stay tuned for the same headline every week of every month for the rest of this games existence This years choice of cosmetics pretty much solidifies the fact that Valve takes a half measure with everything they do. They couldn't even be fucked to try and make the COSMETIC case sensical. How little do you have to care about an update to diminish all of scream fortresses charm in one motion? They aren't saving their energies for something else. The amount of time they spent on choosing items (less than an hour) would have been more than enough time to grab 9 cosmetic sets for each class, implement them, and go back to shitting on mm's map pool for the next 3 months.

So I just spent my $10 profit on stuff to transmute, in hopes to further my investment. 60 transmutes later, zero crates. But hey, I have almost 100 pages in my spellbook now! :disgust:

I honestly thought that the communication I started seeing 2 months ago would change things, and it seems Valve is once again going back into the rabbit hole. While that is true, I am still sticking to the game. I wanna see the Pyro Update, and what they can do with it. They said they were working hard on these updates/update, and I am hoping that is actually the case.

How come the crates are rare with transmutes? If I were Valve I'd put one with every transmute you do to promote the thing.
On an upside this terrible update means I've lost all desire to play one of my favorite games and allows me to focus on my Uni work.
All I want for christmas is a new dev team, fuck the current one
I can understand the servers being overloaded and not being able to give out contracts, but it's weird that when people do get contracts they're really broken and stop working once you die. It's not like this is the first time Valve has done contracts and they worked fine the last time we had them.
I remember this post from two years ago:
Today I played a bit of helltower, then right on to mann manor. And I noticed a really large difference. When I started with helltower, it was hectic. Valve started with an already crazy map which almost completely threw out the idea of an organized front of attack and defense. Payload race maps and capture the flag maps have the gameplay quality, by nature, of an attack side and a defending side for each team. This can be quite disorganized if the map encourages it, by a combination of size, open space, pathways, etc. Now Hightower lends itself to be a map with a severe lack of team play, with the usual exception being the house. Adding spells added in an effective random factor, with fireballs and healing and giant spells. With the random voice lines from Redmond or Blutarch, it seemed quite crazy to be on. I found going base jumper trolldier to be the most viable, hunting for spells and taking down sentries with large spells- if I didn't get a destruction one, I could jump back and get another. In terms of quality, regardless of game flow, the map and update were very well made. It seems like they ran out of time with the skeleton king's development, leading him to be overlooked. Going back to mann manor, the whole gameplay is different from helltower or even ghost fort: it's a lot more like regular tf2 in how organized combat is. It feels less loud and random and more quiet but creepy. The map's theme was halloween- but not a heavy handed type of halloween. It was halloween themed but mostly the idea that it formed out of was halloween-like but not every single detail being hellish or dark or rotting. The rocks outside the manor are dark and moody, but not disorganized in nature. It looks like it could be a place and time in the real world. The fireplace in the upstairs illustrates the same thing- the setting could be used for a non-halloween animation or movie. What I'm trying to say is the fine details of the map contribute to an overarching theme where any little detail can be considered independent of halloween. The background tracks of howling, whispering and the unique design of the map make it seem creepy and not just crazy. The hhh's appearances reminded me of a horror game, since there were no health bars, no despawn messages, and nothing but this large, shaking and freaky looking creature that will run and keep on running until it kills somebody, then systematically slices the next person. It was just creepy, as much as it can be inside of a game like this. About harvest: it wasn't creepy at all, and was less disorderly than manor. The only random factor was the ghost and the crit pumpkins. About eyeaduct and ghost fort: Eyeaduct was a small map, but was still good. The underworld rush was fun, and it was slightly more annoying than the hhh. It floated, teleported, and shot crit eyeballs. Less straightup creepy than the hhh. Now ghost fort is better than helltower in terms of the frenzy of gameplay, but is worse than eyeaduct. Merasmus spouted voice lines and there was the server-wide wheel of fate. Slightly more annoying, but still very well done. Part of the thing that contributes to how chaotic a map experience can be is simply the level of development that goes to it. The hhh had chat-printed tagging and had simple text on your screen of being tagged, which would be unheard of in today's standards of an update. Now going over each update: I wasn't around for 1 and 2, but at least mann manor sparked my imagination. I loved all of the following updates, all of them gave me ideas for mods or animations or maps but every year the main thing I think of with halloween hype is the desolate atmosphere of mann manor. Now, if my compare and contrast essay wasn't enough, here's how it fits in with major update speculation. For the update to be right in my eyes, I'd like it to flow much like normal gameplay of an attack-defend map. The boss, if it must exist, would be horror-like: where you run from it. Manor's tight flow and attack/defend nature didn't let the hhh be under heavy fire, like it is in all the following maps. The general theme shouldn't be of just "halloween"- something specific, like a haunted house, in manor. Finally: I really enjoyed the time-based cycle of events in helltower. It functioned as a tiebreaker- and challenged people to try to take control and keep it by blocking others from getting on. Something like that would be fitting. tl;dr: I like all halloween maps, but manor had less whacky and more focused design that was inspiring. I'd love the next map to be roomy, atk/def based but still more random than normal gameplay. holy shit I should stop writing and finally go to bed, this is fucking long [editline]shush[/editline] Jesus christ this might be better than a compare/contrast essay I recently did for Macbeth
I wonder how different it must feel to my two-year-younger self if I told him that you shouldn't expect a new map/boss with each coming year of halloween. That Valve simply couldn't put in the effort to do it. I hate to draw ties to a certain game, but Blizzard has over 100 people working on Overwatch. TF2 has less than 20. I mean, it's sort of obvious that I shouldn't expect much from such a small team- focused on keeping up the money flow- but I just want to imagine the kind of update Valve could make with a solid team of people working on TF2. Couldn't Valve simply hire more, and stop keeping what... 50% of the stock revenue going to Gabe? I get Valve has a shitton of freedom by being private, but that doesn't mean they have to restrict their money usage so much.
Pardon me for asking, but can you still get spells? I've checked the market and such, but there's nothing there. Seems somewhat backwards if they removed them.
hey look on the bright side, at least now you can make heavy look like a tourist!!!! :DDDD
mate you seem really upset about that you've mentioned your disdain for heavy tourism here and in the emporium you alright mate?
