Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication
So, now there's 4 ways to report bugs:
1. Send an email to TF Team.
2. Use the bug tracker.
3. Use the in-game bug report.
4. Shit about it on Reddit and hope it's popular enough for Valve to see it.
So, it's clear 1 and 2 works, while 4 sorta can, you don't know if your post will be lost in the sea of shitposts.
Did anyone get their bug fixed if they used the in-game bug report feature? I'm curious.
a better question is, has anyone even ever used the in-game bug report feature...
a better question is, has anyone even ever used the in-game bug report feature...
Some people certainly did. I saw a few screenshots of that in Reddit.
As funny as you think it is to make these jokes, they're really uncalled for.
We at least know that someone from the team will look at them, that's probably more communication we've had with the TF2 team in forever.
Yeah. Just like the report player function.
jesus christ dude, will you stop bitching about valve for once
Probably not no.
I mean I just tried playing again after 2-3 weeks and got a lmao boxer my first game.
I'm not exactly in a good mood with the game.
Yeah. Just like the report player function.
Report player function works. It can give players a 6 month ban.
Report player function works. It can give players a 6 month ban.
I know for a fact that it doesn't, even if its an automatic process its so counter intuitive in the game I doubt it can even be triggered normally. Most players don't even know the report function works.

It doesn't actually give out VAC bans but reports can cause up to a 6 month ban from playing on Valve servers for 6 months since the Meet Your Match update. I believe you actually get an in game notification thanking you if someone gets a temporary ban.

Secondly,
Yeah; I can see from your standpoint that you're upset and that damn well, you should be. But if there's a guy who's hacking, why not play a pub with sourcebans? Maybe play some PvE? There's many other options you can pick.
Sure the TF team is small right now, and maybe a bit slow. But at least they're trying by looking at the github; or forwarding emails. You should at least be thankful for those few members whom are putting time and effort in. It makes no sense to just pull out the "I hate Volvo" pitchforks.
I'm not trying to upset you or anyone; but try to sit your ass in their seat for a moment; trying to please a large community with not a lot of help sometimes. Maybe I'm just dumb by clinging on to the game and appreciating that it's still being worked on; but that's just me.

If I remember right, it didn't start happening since MyM, but since a minor patch after some patches after MyM. But yeah, there were tons of screenshots in Reddit about Valve thanking them and people getting huge cooldowns. Similar stuff happened when Valve fixed not getting unusuals (Valve sent in-game messages to those affected), and implemented in-game Steam Support messages.
y'all complaining about cheats and how the TF team isn't doing much about it, have you tried playing CSGO?, if you haven't, you might as well buy it from g2a and save the rest to buy a cheat, because that's how it is now, people even started quitting it to play Dota 2, TF2 is in a much better state when it comes to cheating, atleast the community doesn't accept it.

Talking about VAC, it works and detects all the cheats. It just has a delayed system to confuse hackers and cheat makers.
So.
UMMMM.
I SENT. THE EMAIL.
with a list of all the balance changes i suggested here

this happened

i'm a tiny bit happy at the moment
This just reminds me at the old "Feedback email" some user sent them way back then, which also got a response. No idea what happened to that.
Either way, I'm kinda scared by this. Some suggestions on the list are neato, but others are completely ruining a fun concept of a weapon in Pubs - and I can totally imagine Valve fucking over a weapon so its balanced for comp, while leaving comp a shithole without placement matches, effectively ruining them for nothing.
Some weapons can be banned in comp - thats fine.
Weapons should be balanced for comp and pubs but yeah at this point balancing weapons around comp is killing them because of the state of comp.
Weapons should be balanced for comp and pubs but yeah at this point balancing weapons around comp is killing them because of the state of comp.
Nah, I agree, but for some weapons balancing them around comp effectively kills them.
Bonk! is a fun wep in Pubs but ruins comp, you cant balance it around comp without effectively removing it from the game.
However, weapons like the Crit a Cola or Darwin's Danger shield could easily be changed.
So a little while ago we were talking about the TF2 tutorial and new players struggling with TF2 due to how complex it is. I've been thinking about it for a little while and came up with this new tutorial:
You start in an elevator that opens to a battle damaged hallway.
...
When you get through the end of the hallway a door opens to a large area with Miss Pauline
....
It's a large room and has the objectives in TF2, like a payload cart, a control point and the intel briefcase. She explains you'll be hired either defend or attack these objectives.
At this point you can change class.
...
The tutorial area would also have an optional combat area you could use.
...
Once you finish the basics for each class you get a contract for that class to complete later.
...
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm sure something like this would be a lot of work for the TF2 team and wouldn't really directly benefit anyone here but I think a tutorial like this could really help train and retain new players. I'm planning on sending this to Valve a suggestion for a better tutorial system and I would love some feedback before sending it in.
A large portion of that could be done by a competent map maker. Even the Miss Pauling interactions, if we had the voice lines available to do so.
Giving a contract, and tracking progress would require some work from the TF Team (perhaps minimal?). There's a popup text entity, too, cause if you wanted multi-language support and the TF font, that might require something special from the TF Team as well (I don't remember how customizable that popup text is, it's not a very commonly used entity).
But a large portion of what you suggest can be done by the community and presented to them for finishing up/plugging in. That's what I'd recommend. Grab a good mapper, use some placeholder voicelines, put it in the workshop.
I'm pretty excited by the idea myself in fact, but I'm already about six months behind on two map projects I keep putting off due to RL work.
Some suggestions on the list are neato, but others are completely ruining a fun concept of a weapon in Pubs
Which?
Which?
As an Example - Bonk. You suggested to change it to a simple speed buff. That completely deletes the concept of the weapon, which is getting through Sentry fire and allowing the Scout to do a bit more in Payload matches.

Yes, and the concept of the weapon is flawed. How many times has a Scout used it in front of your face just before you killed it, then you had to chase him for the 8 seconds it lasts so he didn't wreak havoc on your team from behind later? These things are unfun for the average player, not just 6v6 players. The Scout, one of the most powerful classes in the game, already does a ton of work in Payload matches, and he deserves to be a little bit cautious when he hears the beeping nearby.
And about not managing to kill the scout before he uses his bonk in front of your face? How most people here will say "get good"? Well, 99% of the TF2 playerbase need to "get good". It's unfun for those people too.
So a little while ago we were talking about the TF2 tutorial and new players struggling with TF2 due to how complex it is. I've been thinking about it for a little while and came up with this new tutorial:
You start in an elevator that opens to a battle damaged hallway. You need to get to the end of the hallway and it's a simple tutorial area that shows you the basic movement keys as well as using jump, crouch, and crouch jump to get by some of the debris. This has on screen text telling you what buttons to press (and maybe voice lines from the administrator telling you to hurry up and get to the end of the hallway).
When you get through the end of the hallway a door opens to a large area with Miss Pauline. She apologizes for the administrator and maybe we get some banter between them. If you try and shoot Miss Pauline it turns out she's just a hologram created by the engineer because she's had to put down too many mercenaries in the past who though it would be funny to attack her.
It's a large room and has the objectives in TF2, like a payload cart, a control point and the intel briefcase. She explains you'll be hired either defend or attack these objectives.
At this point you can change class. Miss Pauline goes over the basics of each class and has some banter with each one (for example she might ask the Scout how he can double jump and he says something like "Well...um...it's an ancient Boston secret" and she's convinced the demo man's drunk and he denies it at first before finally agreeing that he's had some drinks. Maybe throw in some banter with the administrator at this part). You also get a bot (maybe an MVM robot) to attack so you can test the weapons at this part.
The tutorial area would also have an optional combat area you could use. Outside you would be able to use your melee to hit some screens to choose the difficulty and number of bots you fight. There would also be an area you could only get to by using a rocket or sticky jump you learn about during the solider and demo training.
Once you finish the basics for each class you get a contract for that class to complete later. When you finish going over each class you get a graduation cap hat.
You can leave the tutorial anytime and it will keep track of your progress, so you could do the scout and solider training and then go play as them and do the contracts, then come back and continue with the other classes. Miss Pauline lets you know you get rewards for completing the contract, and a special reward for completing all the contracts.
Anyway the contracts would give you points for doing the basic actions of the class to reinforce the training. The medic would give you points for healing and kill assists, with advanced points for deploying an uber charge. The pyro may give you normal points for killing enemies or airblasting them and advanced points for extinguishing team mates. The engie gives you points for sentry kills, dispenser healing and teleports and maybe advanced points for having all 4 buildings up at once.
The player should get an award for each contract. Maybe an untradable weapon skin for that class, either based on the low tier/basic skins from Gun Mettle and Tough Break or some new ones. The special reward you get when you do all the contracts is a bundle of items similar to what you get for Christmas, untradable items like a backback extender, a name tag, a description tag and maybe a random paint (make part of the graduation cap paint-able so people get a taste of cosmetic items and being able to customize them).
Now the other thing Valve would need to do is get coaching working again on Valve servers. All Valve servers now support up to 32 player slots for MVM so make casual have maybe 2 extra hidden player slots that can be used for coaches. Miss Pauline could mention the coaching system during the tutorial saying if you need extra help to ask for a coach.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm sure something like this would be a lot of work for the TF2 team and wouldn't really directly benefit anyone here but I think a tutorial like this could really help train and retain new players. Please keep working on this and send it to Valve.
Some weapons can be banned in comp - thats fine.
I think it's important to note that Valve ISN'T banning weapons in their competitive matchmaking system, as far as we know. So in that sense, it's almost a requirement to balance weapons for it should Valve's system become an effective method of competing.
somebody tell them christmas is over so we can get rid of those 2d lights on the ropes
i'm impressed it isn't automated.

I think to some extent it does, since I've gotten notices that people I've reported have been banned. Now how it works is beyond me, you'll have to get Valve to answer that.

They aren't being lethargic, they're merely abundantly festive. Christmas is forever.
Well the orthodox church celebrated Christmas yesterday, we can go with that.
I think Muselk lowkey quit TF2.
I believe he is crucial to the longevity of this game, without him I don't think this game will last as long. He mentioned how he is going take a break from TF2 here, I don't buy that. His channel doubled in subs since he started with Overwatch (he is even on a team now). Not only this, but his videos used to be predominantly TF2, slowly but surely it's turning the other way around. Media exposure is a big part in keeping TF2 alive, something it gets less and less of each year. I think it's time for VALVe to step in and advertise aggressively to compete with the growing titles that are leaving this game in the dust.

Valve's comp also doesnt have placement Matches. Or a working ELO System. Or Class Limits. Or any real hacker protection/banning cycle.
Using it as some kind of standard we have to meet isnt the smartest idea.

Bonk, as a weapon, is fine to me and given that most people dont complain about it, it's probably fine for the majority of players as well.
So, uh, nah?

I don't know how many Veterans of TF2 care about MUSELK, I find him quite annoying and see that usually only people who are new to the game seem to enjoy his content. Of course it could just be a loud minority kind of deal and I'm just missing something

Shifting focus isn't the same as quitting. If TF2 was consistently updated and in a more respected state I can guarantee you he would play it more (As would many other known content creators). If a game becomes stale and is left in a bad state, people will move on. I don't like the idea of saying people "quit" a game, because quit means you actively refuse to play it. He doesn't refuse to play it, he just has no interest to.
I don't know how many Veterans of TF2 care about MUSELK, I find him quite annoying
I don't care about Muselk at all, I'm just stating that he is a benefit to the community.
and see that usually only people who are new to the game seem to enjoy his content.
That's the point! One of the reasons why I respect Muselk is because he introduces many new players into this game.

Never, since a scout standing still in front of my face while low on health won't be there for long. And I'm not even good at the game.
