Bonk, as a weapon, is fine to me and given that most people dont complain about it, it's probably fine for the majority of players as well.
and people also never complained about the crit-a-cola. and people don't seem to complain about the sandman.
that doesn't make them fine at all
I don't care about Muselk at all, I'm just stating that he is a benefit to the community.
That's the point! One of the reasons why I respect Muselk is because he introduces many new players into this game.
I don't think muselk is big enough to introduce people to the game, he may be a go to for already new players but I highly doubt he'll introduce some sort of hidden large userbase

When he made new tf2 vids each day, it increased the chances of youtube's algorithms to suggest his videos to people who may not know the game.

If 1.5 million subs isn't enough, then what is?

He's by far the largest """"TF"""" Youtuber.
It saddens me that one of the largest TF2 Youtubers are NISLT and Delfy actively promoting exploits...
I think Muselk lowkey quit TF2.
I believe he is crucial to the longevity of this game, without him I don't think this game will last as long. He mentioned how he is going take a break from TF2 here, I don't buy that. His channel doubled in subs since he started with Overwatch (he is even on a team now). Not only this, but his videos used to be predominantly TF2, slowly but surely it's turning the other way around. Media exposure is a big part in keeping TF2 alive, something it gets less and less of each year. I think it's time for VALVe to step in and advertise aggressively to compete with the growing titles that are leaving this game in the dust.
Old TF2 youtubers move on, play different games and what's popular. But there is already great youtubers taking their place so I don't see the fact some wacky youtubers stopped recording their game to be detrimental or should influence if people should play.
Heck I know one or two players that stopped playing LITERALLY because Star_ and Jerma no longer play, it's honestly pathetic.
If the player is influenced that heavily by a youtuber, I question if they really ever enjoyed playing the game at all.

But most of his videos are of Overwatch now
Been 24 videos since his last tf2 one

don't care about Muselk or whatever, but this is a very valid, very strong point
the fact that TF2, the third-biggest game on Steam, doesn't get any form of advertising outside of word-of-mouth, drives me completely insane
OK, so as part of my living writing stuff, I often work with B2B and marketing-oriented clients, right? I'm hardly what you'd call a qualified marketer, but I know a missed opportunity when I see one and God, Valve is missing out majorly by refusing to advertise its games
it has the damn budget to pull it off, too
instead, their press kit still uses images from the TF2 Beta, the one commercial there was on Adult Swim told viewers approximately nothing about the game, and the amazing Meet The Team shorts have never been aired on TV
imagine a cut-down Meet The Team short showing up on TV and YouTube ads. think about how quickly you could catch people's interest by advertising around the strong personalities of the mercs.
or imagine a modern gameplay trailer, which shows off the full chaos of your average pub game, with all kinds of weapons and classes highlighted.
TF2 has so much potential from an advertising standpoint that it's shocking to me how underutilized it is in that fashion.

Which is why I put several "s around the TF given that he called it a mere break.
There is an incredible drought in the Community now - we need this Major Update as soon as possible.

If the next major update is the Pyro update which it most likely is, we need it to have a LOT of content. The halloween update was not that big because the TF team said they will be focusing more on the pyro update and that is all right by me. As for the Smissmas update, the pyro update was most likely suppose to be included but wasn't due to some circumstances so that just left most of the content to be community stuff with the addition of some server changes. So with a large amount of time that past and not a lot of content that is majority valve created, I am hoping that the pyro update balances the pyro and fixes broken weapons as well as providing new stuff that doesn't have any bugs or exploits.
The next few updates really need to kick ass so old players who have moved on to new titles that get more love will come back to tf2 and give it another chance.

I can only see both new weapons and new tours doing it.

The problem with this sentiment is, what old players are we talking about?
If you're talking about the players that were alienated by MyM, then sure, that's probably a good idea.
But there have been tons of players who have left over the years as TF2 evolved from its launch status as a pretty clear-cut class-based FPS to what it is today, for better or worse.
I don't think there's much you can do to reconcile the players who left due to "artstyle" complaints (their words, not mine), nor much you can do for those who miss the simplicity of launch loadouts (or at a push, classes with only their original class-update unlocks).
And of course you also have the other side of things where there's probably people who have left simply because they've played so much TF2 that they need a change and to give it up.
I can only see both new weapons and new tours doing it.
3 rebalances = 1 new weapon.
^ Current exchange rate of updates.
Pick your currency.
There is a large audience of players that "just check the game out when it gets new shit"
After that they get bored and drop it - it's not about "bringing back old players" as some "pseudo-permanent players" but more about the fact that "that old game got another giant update"

I always felt meet the sniper was particularly strong.

could probably be cut down to 60 secs. would make a killer yt/tv ad
i mean, we know the pyro update is going to have new weapons along with the rebalances, so we can check that one off
and the "what we're up to" blog post also said there'd be a "big new update and campaign", so it sounds like we might be looking at gun mettle 3: pyro edition, now with new weapons instead of just skins! it sounds like it'll be a satisfying update once it actually comes out, the only question is how long that'll take.
actually, what if the update comes out with skins for the new weapons, like an r8 revolver sort of deal? i wouldn't put it past them. :v:

New Pyro Weapons are elite grade in the Case :V
I'm still emotionally counting on a January release, then there is that awkward Jungle Update coming toh
Did they reset everyone's mvm tours? Because I had like 30 something, now it says I haven't done one. Or does resetting your stats also reset your tour number? Because if that's the case that's stupid as hell

It's when you delete your mvm badge for that tour.

...oh
when valve fucks with the item server midgame sometimes everybody will show as notour and the run becomes invalid.
Game coordinator fixed, only 23 people in game in Casual
lmao went straight to a Luxemburg server
Just a heads up that there was a small item schema update pushed approx. 20 minutes ago.
FYI everyone: all the item schema update did is to make ESA Rewind medals paintable.
or imagine a modern gameplay trailer, which shows off the full chaos of your average pub game, with all kinds of weapons and classes highlighted.
So I'm gonna build on this- I was thinking about what commercials like that would look like, and I think the best move would be to have ads centered around the weapons and unlocks of different classes, with sylistic highlights and simple descriptions of what each weapon does while it's in action
here's some visualization worth considering: a Soldier advertisement
We start with a RED Soldier on, say, Harvest, rocket-jumping across the map- the Rocket Launcher gets highlighted during this segment, and gets a description like "Reliable rockets". In midair, he switches to Shotgun- Standard-issue backup weapon- before being suddenly and abruptly blasted out of the air.
Switch perspective to the BLU Soldier, who was responsible for said action. He's running Direct Hit- Fast rockets, high damage, direct hits only- then rocket jumps onto the BLU roof, with the Gunboats- More rocket jumps.- being highlighted while he does so.
RED Soldier is shown respawning, rapidly whipping his team with the Disciplinary Action- Less damage. Boost yourself and teammates on hit- to get to the front lines faster. Though it isn't highlighted, he's switched to Gunboats.
Both Soldiers see each other, and rocket-jump toward each other, both pulling out their respective melees before they meet in mid-air. The BLU Soldier has equipped the Market Gardener- Deals critical hits when rocket-jumping- and the commerical ends just before they both clash.
Add a tagline like "These and more. Nine classes, hundreds of ways to play them." before the typical "Team Fortress 2 - Free To Play!" splash, and there you go.
A simple commerical that highlights TF2 gameplay, quickly explains the concept of multiple unlockable weapons, and highlights a fast-paced battle between two players. Visually, I'd recommend keeping them both without cosmetics (so, ironically, they'll stand out and draw attention to the original artstyle), but allowing background characters to wear their random cosmetics.

This is amazing.
You missed the part where they hit the skybox trying to rocket jump on Harvest.
commercials
I like this idea. While thinking of more ways to advertise TF2 like that, for some reason trading cards came into my mind. While thinking of a possible way to introduce that, this is what I came up with: Having an item now would be the same as having the trading card for that item, it is just presented in a different way. This way you 'equip' and have cards instead of items. If there were collection trackers/categories/some card minigame(s), this could potentially introduce more reasons to trade items in all 'tiers' of item values, by introducing more incentive to go for specific items, even if they were 'low value' by giving a third value to an item beyond visual appeal or market value.
An example of what a 'card minigame' could be: a very simplistic choose your own adventure, with the wrapping of an intense turn based game. Different scenarios are presented with different weapon choices offered in each one. You can look between each weapon and see the stats of each, and then choose one to play. A video would then play of your character doing the action, equipped with the cosmetic cards that you have equipped. The minigame could also serve as a tutorial and newer-player teaching device because players can learn about the effects of a weapon and potential strategies while playing.

You don't even need the card aspect for that last idea to work.
