Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication

Well from a technical standpoint released the Pyro Update around this time would be a smart move given how much attention the comic gave TF2.
So would be an Update centered around the comic, just imagine the cosmetics.

I also just realised whoever did that naked scout SFM model is going to have to remake it.
Wait, Tom Jones didn't even record Sex Bomb until 1999!
I'm having a hard time suspending my disbelief during this heaven dream sequence.
someone needs to make an afro for scout and just call it "The Sex Bomb"

You've got an odd letter in this name.

Meh, it was worth.
Nathan even thought they killed him off for a moment.

(Slight Return)
Well I sent another email to valve about including monthly new cosmetic crates in game, this time to Eric specifically, since others in here said they had gotten mail back from him.

did you tell him that tiers suck ass
did you tell him that tiers suck ass
I did include something on that, but I have a feeling they won't drop that idea anytime soon since it works so well for CS:GO

I know they won't drop the new tiers they put in place, even though such tiers confuse certain players with already existing colours.
Plus for crates containing community-based items, to some having your item the red-tier quality just means you'll see less people enjoying the cosmetic you made.
Which I believe is one of the main enjoyments I'd find if I were to get something in.
And then a real kicker when your cosmetic becomes blue quality and everyone calls it "Trash" upon uncrating it.
The tier colours should of stayed for skinned weapons, at least there it would of made sense and explainable as "These tiers are only gain able from weapons."
And not "These tiers will be on anything TFTeam wants."
I hate opening a commando grade item and thinking it's an unusual at first because the color is very close
Kind of (really shouldn't be) surprised there's no bugfix patch yet. It's been almost a month since Smissmas and the dead Casual rematches are still a thing.

I just go under the assumption that any commando grade is just a commando grade.

Unfortunately we had to deal with no autobalance for 6 months. I am glad they are improving Casual but only implementing changes (Bug fixes and basic functionality.) during a "Major" update is far too slow. They can only get away with this since they have plenty of other highly profitable assets. (Steam, Dota 2, CS:GO.) Any developers relying solely on TF2 for revenue would likely be feeling some financial strain leaving the game in the broken state it is in.
Don't get me wrong I am glad that Valve still updates and supports this game but a company relying solely on TF2 for revenue has a lot more incentive to not alienate players (MYM), replace a functional system (Quickplay) with a broken one (Launch Casual), show disrespect to the competitive scene by listening to their feedback then deciding that the existing scene doesn't actually know competitive play better (Valve's Competitive mode), and restricting the addition of basic Casual functionality and improvements behind "Major" updates.
I don't get all the hate about tiers.
Its always worked that way, they are just telling people now.
I personally prefer the tiers just for transparencies sake.

Part of a post I wrote about tiers a while ago.
As an example this game had a great item labeling system prior to colored tiers. It was easy to remember all vintages are blue, genuines are green, stranges are orange, and collectors are red. The tier system is extremely confusing as now we have non collectors, red-texted unusuals and unique items having blue text instead of yellow.
I personally don't hate tiers but the way Valve implemented them is extremely toxic to the already existing item system.

I hate the fact ever since they adopted that system they've been putting far less contest into cases.
its pretty normal for classes to not even get an item anymore.

It's always upset me that there's not a single person in the office who tries to keep track of what class is getting items. It's not a game of appealing to every class at all. It's a favoritism game of potentially adding 5 pyro hats in the same update heavy or engineer get none. Even if they don't like any workshop items for those classes (which is absolutely doubtable), They could at the very least still spread it out more than whatever the fuck system is in place now. In my opinion if one class has a drought of cosmetics while the other has a plethora, that reflects a terrible customization system.
I want more diverse Demoman cosmetics personally- the class is a joy to play but most of the cosmetics look pretty bad after a while.

bomberknight is fantastic in that regard

no, it hasn't always worked that way.
in previous cosmetic crates, there was a list of items you could get, all with the same open chance.
now valve artificially inflates value on good/bad/garish cosmetics (looking at you, banana). those items then become rich people items, as in ego-inflating items, like max's head, etc. we don't need to add more of that cancer to the game

Scream Fortress 2015 was the absolute worst in this regard.
Pyro got 4 individual items
Engineer got a two 3 item sets
Scout got two 2 item sets.
Soldier got 1 hat
and the rest got nothing, save for all classes.
Pyro is stupidly favoured in Scream Fortress because you can make any generic item that makes pyro a monster or something ridiculous and it'll fly.
Scream Fortress with the Mann Brothers was THE best year for cosmetics. Wish they would do that amount of cosmetic content again, and the haunted quality too. Just made things overall more Halloweeny.

2013 in general was the best year of cosmetics. I miss that 100+ cosmetic summer update.

We should actually be happy that there is no tiny bugfix patch.
A long drought of patches usually means a Major Update is coming. We had it before Smissmas, and we are having it now.
Pretty sure we are going to get the Pyro Update in January.

The only tiers were whether it was a weapon, which had a higher percentage chance, or a cosmetic.
Now it's tiers between the cosmetics themselves.
