Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication
I'm kind of curious, but where would you find the situation to do that? I would assume that if you're pushing the cart through a dangerous area, you'd be better off just using your minigun to clear the path ahead.
Probably if your right at the end or near a point where staying alive is more important as it'll keep your team from losing or better your chances to win, or situations where your minigun's damage won't really benefit you all that much, most likely the enemy is attacking you from a distance.
Another thing heavy can do is if an enemy team is pushing in with an uber, you can sit the heavy on the last point with the fists out. This I hear being one of the reasons Fists of steel are frowned from 6's. To where you have to prioritize the heavy so that you can capture the point, even if there's other people on his team firing back at you that you can kill easier.
Oh yeah, not sure if you guys know yet but Gabe Newell is doing an AMA on Reddit at Tuesday 3pm PT, we could use this chance to ask him about TF2.

I wanna know where the rest of the TF2 figure line is at. Don't care if the paint is bad I just want to finish my collection and get my hats.

I doubt Gabe Newell knows too many specifics about TF2. It would be better to ask him more general, broad questions like "Is TF2 and CSGO ever going to be ported to Source 2 like DOTA2 was?" or "Are you going to do more long TF2 videos like Expiration Date?"
If we are going to get a large update in Q1 I would say this week is the least likely week for it to be since the big TF2 rewind LAN is this weekend and I doubt the TF2 team would want to ship any major changes before a large LAN.
I'll stick to this.
Keep on, believing.
Honestly if valve doesn't do something big by summer I can see a lot of the player base leaving. Talking to friends and just playing in pubs I see a lot of people just kind of... Complaining. Right now we've been starved of any -real- brand new non-cosmetic content for about 2 years or so now.
I'm just going to ask if teams like the TF Team will be undergoing expansions with the move to the new office/if they're bringing more employees onboard.
May I ask why "TF" doesn't use assault rifles?
Was it explained anywhere in the comics?
IMO not having any assault rifles made TF2 a much better and unique game. The only primary weapon that is automatic and hitscan is the minigun, with its huge move speed penalty. It allows TF2 to be way more of a Quake-like game as it was intended instead of a CS clone with more interesting characters. By using shotguns instead of assault rifles and making only a few guns headshot, the game forces you to get up close and allows very different interactions between classes and in team fights.

Why on earth would they update the dev commentary files? Those are so inconsequential at this point that I can't see why they would spend time fixing them when there is so much else to work on.
Might actually make demoknight viable too.
Are you saying that demoknight isn't viable? How experienced are you? Obviously demoknight has less defensive capabilities, but he's far from being unviable.

in pubs where most people are terrible at the game, sure
I'm kind of curious, but where would you find the situation to do that? I would assume that if you're pushing the cart through a dangerous area, you'd be better off just using your minigun to clear the path ahead.
One of the best uses I've found for it is clearing the cart at the start of the round when you're on BLU. If you've got full overheal (and best-case scenario, Vaccinator resist), you can eat a lot of spam as soon as the gates open, and rush the cart so the Demo detonates. You might not be able to take all 8 stickies without Vaccinator and/or overheal, but at least even if you do die, you've probably cleared the cart for an ample amount of time for your team to mount an attack and prevent the cart from being a deadzone until one of your more mobile classes take the Demo down or otherwise clear it.
Similar to what Kitt also mentions, it is a bit of a cheap strategy, but you can keep your butt firmly parked on the cart when moving through a choke to have the enemy team focus you down while you have your team bring the pain.
The pattern here is that you switch to 'tank' mode and hope your team are at least competent to fight in your place while you get the cart through tough spots quicker. In some cases it is better that you stick to Fists of Steel than have the Minigun out, such as notorious sniper spots, and times when you're too far away from enemies, that you'd just be feeding an uber build rate.
I'll admit that most of the time it doesn't work as well as you want it to, and it doesn't really belong a in a game as dynamic as TF2, but as a pretty defensive player, it's a niche I'm willing to fill when there's just a wall of damage being thrown at a choke-ridden map.
Are you saying that demoknight isn't viable? How experienced are you? Obviously demoknight has less defensive capabilities, but he's far from being unviable.
he's fun to torment people on pubs with, but playing demoknight versus actual demoman is tantamount to outright throwing in both 6s and Highlander because he simply lacks the damage output needed to be the offensive core of the team- as he is in those formats
Demoknight turns the god of AOE explosive damage and traps into a single target melee range pick class.
In which he's just a vastly inferior scout.
This is kinda why demoknight is treated as a joke class.
Issue 8 is going to be the last one ?
(Why the dumb vote, it just was a question)

Can any of the 19 funny rating people explain the joke to me here

Personally it was just the fact that Fluury still keeps being optimistic, when nobody else has any reason to be.

It was actually supposed to be a bad attempt at gathering all the stuff we have to "look forward to", geel is on there since he said that they planned to get it out at the end of the year, being a large base for the "They skipped smissmas and we'll get it early 2017" theory - in no way to mock geelboy.
thus,
[I]don't stop

turning yourself into a meme probably won't help your credibility
I don't see why geel is getting the hit here. He said that valve stated major update being out at the end of the year and by looking the history page, it was. Valve considers smissmass '16 as major update.
Just that it wasn't what many people here expected. Pyro was expected, but it was quite obvious it wasn't going to be out in such short time. Those who remained optimistic that it won't be out 2016, congrats. While all the signs show that only summer, halloween and late time of the year we see big updates, i think this year is different and it will launch sooner.
I expect pyro to be out in jan-feb 2017, jungle update for the summer (i mean c'mon, it's perfect timing for it), halloween as it is and soforth. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Half a year is not a "short time." It should not have taken them this long to make it when, based on the Halloween update being skipped and Christmas only having minor tweaks to matchmaking, they clearly weren't working on anything else.
If they honestly believe Smissmas counted as a "major" update, then there's a serious issue. I didn't even anticipate the Pyro update, merely the standard weapon and class balances that have been par for the course for years.

This is where we are now. Maybe there is a lack or resources (people to work on the tf2) or something else that the developers cannot talk about for people outside of the company. Maybe someone has said that only half of their time can be used to maintain TF2 alone. We dont know. Maybe this is what we get in future as major updates. No update pages even, just stuff put in and released. I'm hoping i'm not correct on this.
I feel like the Pyro update will be out sometime in the Spring, and the Jungle/Mayann update will be out in the Summer, and then the game is shut down forever for Christmas and everyone cries

I think you're confusing 'optimistic' with 'realistic'.

Pretty much anything which isn't a 'mandatory' update is considered a 'major' update. This has been the case for quite some time.

Last AMA 2 years ago there was a question about competitive, something like "Do you like the current state of esports CSGO and Dota 2".
So make sure to 'spam him with questions about the TF2 comp support, especially funding tournaments.
We need a reply. We really do.
IIRC it's in 40 minutes.
