• Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication

So this garbage gargoyle souls stuff has replaced the Halloween gifts system, right? I just want to make sure.
As others have said, tf2 is, like many other games, a Legacy Game. Valve could stop updating the game right now and it would still have a big Playerbase.
Isn't it like we're at a point where that would actually be preferable?
Isn't it like we're at a point where that would actually be preferable?
If a small amount of valve employees want to continue releasing updates elbeit small then why not?
If a small amount of valve employees want to continue releasing updates elbeit small then why not?
Well you guys sound really pissed when they do, just an observation.
Maybe if the TF2 team ever retires they could hire more dev's that had their items accepted or map's in the workshop. that could give tf2 a better future and updates. :v: plus that could increase the dev's of fixing what the tf2 team has done wrong. for a short example it's like old men giving their job's to young creative minds that understands the community.
I would prefer TF3 to more updates
I loathe the hostility that's been coming from the TF community. I can understand why the community is fed up: the TF team is taking TF2 in a direction many dislike, and not fully addressing the issues with the current state of the game. But hostility doesn't help that. I feel many of those unleashing hostility forget the TF team is made up of actual people. They aren't some omnipotent entity, the team is made up of ordinary people. People that forget, people that can only do so much, people that have different skills, people that get stumped at hard problems, people that have their own emotions and desires: people that are like you and me. If someone is attacking me or my choices, I'm going to get defensive. Nor will I want to deal with that person anymore--even if they're right and have valid points. Hostility towards devs doesn't help very much, whether or not it's justified. Hostility doesn't help the community either. Having a toxic community will turn away all kinds of players, newcomers and veterans. Why would anyone want to be a part of a community full of hostility? I turn to games and other media to get away from that. So what can you do? Ideally, everyone would be doing their part in being constructive and understanding. It doesn't guarantee you'll always get what you want, but it'll foster a more cooperative environment between the TF team and community. Behave and be helpful, and they'll be more willing to pay attention. However, if things continue as they currently do, I can see the game slowly dying out. This will be caused by both sides. While the playerbase dwindles for whatever reason, so will the team supporting the game. As the updates get smaller and less frequent, even more players will leave. Then the game will enter an eternal life support phase. I guarantee you the TF team is trying to prevent that from happening. Even if their actions don't always result in a positive outcome, they learn from them. They don't want the game to die, and neither do you.

The people who remain are great people don't get me wrong, but it's not enough to sustain this game past being on life support. They don't have support from.the rest of valve or the resources. Valve treats their multimillion dollar game like an indie game. Because it's so old many at valve see it as irrelevant and have moved on, and those who haven't lack the resources to make this game thrive. So I actually think the hostility is warranted, we were all led to believe that competitive would make the game we love thrive, but it became obvious that was untrue, and now this game will forever remain casual.
TF2 is on a big decline in every level except disappointment and if you disagree you're in massive denial.
2015 was the biggest step in the right direction that TF2 has gotten in years with lots of good rebalances to weapons and classes, tons of community maps added, a community update and the start of more communication from Valve. I think in 2016 Valve is still moving in the right direction but the road has been quite a bit more rocky. Matchmaking is a good move to make the game more modern and Valve pubs more playable but it launched in a very bad state. The balance changes in MyM weren't as good as the ones last year, but a rebalance and new weapons for the two classes that need it most is promising. Valve's interest in growing comp TF2 is a great thing but their insistence on figuring out their own meta when they're so late to the party is odd. The Halloween update not working right for a few days is disappointing but I'll live and do my contracts when I start getting them. The Halloween update was a somewhat lackluster but if it means we get a better Christmas/Pyro update I'll be okay with that (but of course the quality of that update remains to be seen).
I think its funny you assume the TF2 team doesn't have the resources of the rest of Valve when we really have no idea. If anything it seems like it would be the opposite with the way their company is structured, they could probably get the resources they need when they need them. If they need new skins made an artist joins the team to make some skins then leaves when finished. When they work on matchmaking they get some people who worked on matchmaking in their other games but it's hard to say for sure. I do wonder if a lot of issues with matchmaking come from the game being so old and wasn't designed for it in the first place so it took a lot of work to get it working right, but we'll never know for sure. The Halo Master Chief collection had a ton of matchmaking issues for months after launch and that game had an army of people developing and testing it.
Queue times seem to be much shorter, and alot of people are always searching, like 5x the number I normally see, contracts still aren't dropping
Speaking of Contracts, last year we (afaik) got like 1 a day, right? This year seems to be different. Instead of 14, the max says "21" - meaning that only 5 are remaining, which is a shockingly small amount. Unless it - hopefully - ends up being a bug.

People.. were trying to defend Valve? after this year shitshow? wow, just wow.
People.. were trying to defend Valve? after this year shitshow? wow, just wow.
Way to invalidate everyone's viewpoint for an epic zinger.
The biggest problem with the tf2 team these days to me, as a customer and frequent player, is the general lack of communication from the team and their general inability to keep a promise. Promises such as, "The new comic will be out sooner", "This update will be cool beans (The matchmaking update was a pretty big train wreck), "We're working on a moon base" and others. It seems to me, as a simple consumer, that the tf2 team cannot properly deliver and maintain good updates because they seem to no longer care about the game. They don't keep promises, I feel like. And if the kind of stuff they've done all this year (However small sized it is compared to usual) is omen for years to come, I have a bad feeling for the future of this game and its community.
It's not like i defend valve...Meh...Valve sucks balls, worse than EA and Ubisoft those last years TF team, they are a small team, working in a really old game, you know guys how big and bad the project might be right? I think they are aware of all our problems, and they try to fix it, but they suck at this or they have real priorities that they just can't say "Okay, we should stop working on this, so we can fix that thing" Imagine if developers would speak here, talking about what they do and promising stuff that later they found that it's not working, so they have to roll back everything There's nothing sadder than say that you'll have ready the update this friday and surprise, we found some issues Thursday so we have to keep it. I'm having fun with the game, never felt that heavy nerf, i just felt spy buff, but nothing to cry about because the game is not broken...I'm happy they did casual, I know how to play with any class, even if i fail with one, i'll blame my skills, yeah, they are doing some unfair changes sometimes, but do we really need to scream about it every update, every month, every day, every hour...And don't come at me with "It's a game forum, i can express my opinion" Yes you can, but stop winning about everything, you won't change nothing sadly, enjoy they game and go pro, we have too many weapons, 9 classes and lots of hats, what else do we need, the game is pretty fun to play!
I think the source of unpleasantness with valve is they set the bar extremely high at first, but each new instance lowers it a little and a little. But people are used to expecting the initial level of treatment and quality. the fun part about this statement is that I mean their entire internal property, not just tf2.
I just really hope that with the Pyro Update, we'll get some positivity flowing and people going "Wow, they totally redeemed themselves!" I can see where all the hate is coming from, but man is it tiring.

People will cry soon and gloom, it's a never-ending cycle.

Halloween's the time of tf2 year everyone anticipates with a gusto. and take off some restrictions. How is something like the immobile suit something that should be restricted?
Why is it when there's the slightest hint of TF2 dying, Fire's the only one who seems to comment on it/care? All the fucking time, like a broken record?
Why is it when there's the slightest hint of TF2 dying, Fire's the only one who seems to comment on it/care?
Same goes for Aperture. Like, woo what a shocker, TF2 team fucked up again. IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO REPEAT YOURSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND POST LE EBIN ZINGERS. ffs
Why is it when there's the slightest hint of TF2 dying, Fire's the only one who seems to comment on it/care?
Because I like the game and have been feeling discouraged for about a year now.
trying to be a redditard ironically is still being a redditard.
...wh- So, guess my opinion makes me a terrible slang someone on the internet came up with? Sure. I use all-caps to show that I am esentially shouting what I am typing, not to bring more attention to it. I have better alternatives for that.
