voice codec hype
I never expected them to do something to the voice codec, but they did it. The absolute madmen (and plant).
A FaceIt admin emailed valve just a few days ago asking to add CSGO's voice codec, surprised they responded

The timing may just be a coincidence, people have been asking for this improved voice codec for a long time and it's possible that its been in the pipeline for awhile now.
I don't really understand the issue with Ike.
Yes, he has self-made items, but his post was incredibly relevant to the conversation. You were talking about rewards for self-made owners; how is that not a relevant perspective he can bring to the table?

could be, still a good timing with the FaceIt tournament starting soon

Because the notion of item contributors or Saxxy winners getting extra XP advantages is retarded

You didn't read what he said, did you?

It's incredibly telling that you oppose his idea even though you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what his idea was.

I missed the part where it was Steam XP, but that doesn't mean it isn't a stupid idea.

He asked for a way to display his self-mades on his Steam profile without having to pay for the cards to do so, which to me sounds very reasonable.
But of course you didn't see that, because he dared bring up the fact that he has some self-made items.
I prefer they add a different way to display them on profile, but giving an XP boost doesn't really seem like a bad idea, Valve employees, sale events, community moderators and previously SteamWorks developers had an XP boost, why not workshoppers?

My focus was the idea that having a self-made should automatically give an XP advantage to people, it's fine if he wants to display them on his profile, but the notion that it should give a benefit beyond anything cosmetic is ridiculous, and I feel the same way about Saxxy winners getting some reward that gives them an advantage over other players
If Valve wanted to expand on Saxxies they could offer Saxxy weapons for other games like CS:GO or Dota 2, but just like in TF2 they should be reskins and not anything that can screw over other people unfairly

XP is cosmetic, ya know

if I may interject without being bombarded with vitriol, I would like to suggest that people who put hundreds and even thousands of hours into the workshop for valve to reap the vast majority of the benefits from wouldnt be getting an xp "advantage" considering it would be a very small benefit for their work, especially when xp itself is a pretty cosmetic thing and the benefits it provides are universally cosmetic, to my knowledge.

oh my bad, you get the supreme privilege to add a few extra friends to your friend list.
honestly valve wouldn't even have to give you xp or levels, they could just give you access to a workshop-specific showcase. my suggestion's purpose was never a level or xp increase but rather a way for valve to allow contributors an easy way to display their workshop

You got a fuckton of money from the key sales, just dish out some cash, buy some cards, and craft badges.
Also, you already have a way to showcase your workshop junk.

I know I do, I wasnt suggesting it because i wanted or needed it, I was suggesting it because it would be a nice luxury for contributors to have easier access to.

Lord knows he hasn't done it a hundred different ways before today
It wasn't even relevant to the discussion, he responded to "saxxy winners should get a way to show it off" with "this group that i'm a part of also deserves ways to show items off haha"
Was it an incorrect or unreasonable idea? Not at all. But it was shoehorned into the conversation, and ikes beings ikes the post will come off as self-jerking.

I wish the merits and content of my posts could be separated from the identity that's been applied to me and my profile. discussion could be a lot more objective and less vitriolic that way.

then post better
The Comedy options I didn't find to be particular humorous, but still enjoyable. Kind of expecting Channel Chasers to win it though. No problems though with the Medic.
I figured the winner over all would be obvious, and it was lol. Looked great from start to finish.
Over all the winners were fine. This might give me some flack, buuutt... I do think they should consider perhaps removing TF2 for next years and then offering the winners options on items they could receive for their respective games to give it a more wider audience though.
the power of art was a goddamn masterpiece and I dont see how anyone can think anything else shouldve won tbh
You know what? Fuck it, I'm going to try to attend the next Saxxys. I have an idea in my head and I'm gonna work on its story board. Then, I'll try to get a team for mapping, lighting, and animating. Once it gets made, we win, and we all get a Saxxy.
That ain't gonna work, will it?

Nothing is impossible, but you better start now rather than later.
I felt that how crits work should've been submitted to the short category rather than comedy, yeah it is really funny but it's still only 1 minute long, and I could see it winning over the power of art

It's interesting because it seems to me the thread gets shit up because everyone freaks out over nothing, not because of what ikes actually posted.
I dont see any reason why Valve folks would invest time to add an entry for single game to give a single badge to workshop that would grant xp boost if you are a workshop contributor. Anyone can be one and needs to be as equal as one having items in the game or not. Having self made items in the game is just extra and if you can't pony up few bucks to get that showcase to display your items, it's your own loss.

Giving the timing with a FaceIT tournament I'm guessing that FaceIT got the TF2 team to add the codec in more quickly then they otherwise would have but I guess we'll never know for sure.

I think it would be cool to given people who have an item, skin or map added to TF2, CSGO or DOTA2 a special badge on their Steam account.
honestly curious how valve is going to rebalance the pyro
will he get his kit reworked? buffs and nerfs? slight but impacting changes? cool hats? more backstory about that psycho arsonist???
if they make a pretty freaking great update ill go back into tf2 again!

While I'd love a total rework, like Scout received during from the beginning of TF2 to become a more viable class in total. I'm just going to say it's best to wait it out before really getting excited over it more or less.
Doesn't hurt though to hope it turns out reasonable at least. Just try to keep hype down till we have at least something to work with at least.

Knowing tf team it will be an another phlog buff, some new weapon so bad nobody uses it and of course some tiered cosmetics for no reason.
Please let me be wrong.
