Major Update Speculation V35 - A Distinctive Lack of Communication

Was it that hard to contact Valve to promote their tournament instead of handing it over to some semi-popular TF2bers, one of which has a quite bad reputation?
It makes me kinda sad, because I actually like PASS Time as a gamemode, but there are just so few people that actually play it and also know how to play it. I would be surprised if they even get about 6 teams to signup.
While I agree that RobTheAwsm isn't a good guy, It's not necessarily the TF2 Devs working with him on the Tournament, its the PASSTime Devs/Escalation Studios. The medals were probably added into the game at Escalations' demands, I don't really think it's Valve working with them, because lets be honest, they have to reach a new low to trust a very sketchy guy to help work a tournament like this.
MUS not "annoying things with how dev associates work"
If you're really that upset just remember regardless of whether you like those YouTubers they were some of the only people testing and playing that dead gamemode, so naturally said pass time devs will be grateful to their feedback and throw them a bone if they want to make a community tournament. The fact we haven't heard of the tournament since implies that they stopped associating with rob after people came out saying what he'd done
That said rob is just some sad guy with mental issues, not really worth discussing here
tbh it really bothers me that we have official devs involved in tf2 working with RobTheAwsm, the guy that gained his popularity off of compulsively lying about having MyM details before its release, which he "apologized" for but yet he continues to lie and mislead his audience on a regular basis (including claiming a high level of comp experience, which is really just having roster-rode a plat team before being kicked off for being an asshole)
just
ick, dude.
leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.
What's wrong with roster riding? I did it for an Iron medal to use with my F2P Sniper set.
Having played Asteroid again I forgot how pretty that map was.
How high are the chances of it releasing alongside the Pyro Update?
Having played Asteroid again I forgot how pretty that map was.

asteroid's probably already "finished" and they're holding off on releasing it until the TF Comics 'series' finishes.
if they release it along with the pyro 'rework' update then it'll probably be because they realised "oh shit this comic series is taking 20 billion years to finish and we've got this finished map we haven't shipped out yet so let's ship it with the pyro update 4.5"
What's wrong with roster riding? I did it for an Iron medal to use with my F2P Sniper set.
you own that you just roster-rode for the medal, like many people do
rob claims that he actually plays at that level and is that skilled, when he's a mid-steel medic at best. he speaks as if he has any authority on weapon and game balancing, when he absolutely does not and no players at the highest level of skill agree with him.
This is about the pass time tournament. But is anyone going to try applying for it or not?
i'm just asking because i wanna know what people think of the tournament

I think the idea of the tournament is fine but I'm not even considering it because Passtime isn't that fun.
Two things
#1 Pass Time Tournament seems like it's just to keep the community interested in pass time. Personally I might check it out and get my old team back together to play.
#2 Pyro will probably only get the afterburner either during late December/early February. The reason I think they will do this is they could do a "Trouble in Paradise" type of update for Winter with the jungle theme, and a "Flames of Passion" thing in February for Pyro.
That and knowing that valve is 0/2 on major updates, they will go the maps first then pyro update.
EDIT:
Also, does anyone know how to deal with the file permissions? I can't update my game because of some file that has a bad permission.
For the sake of personal interest, I'm kind of wondering how passtime would fair if it had a forced composition with class limits and say... 9 players max per team would work out. Maybe with a little flexibility to allow multiples of some classes perhaps and not be highlander specific. Actually, speaking of Highlander. Could pass time be functional for it at all? I guess asking this could be useful for a starting point regardless since it's similar.
I genuinely feel passtime can be enjoyable is why I ask, more so on a higher skill level then what you'd expect from pubs at least. Pub level of play I often get close to 10:1 kill/death ratios thanks to all the scouts who think bum rushing works against sentries...

This is with the Gunslinger too, and not Lv3's which are far better at mass murdering scouts...
May need some better maps though. The original one is a bit too sniper friendly for my tastes. Hell, the top parts of the map feel like orange level in terms of sight lines.
modes like ctf, passtime and mannpower can only work with class limits, it's always either a roll or a stalemate otherwise, the only reason ctf was fun in tfc and qwtf was because of class limits and grenades, which made the game even more fast paced

Only specific maps in QWTF had class limits, maps like Border2/Cross4, Hunted, Town2/Town3/Town4 ect. Maps like 2fort ( any of the many version, from version 1 to version 5r ), rock2, well6, and what not have never had class restrictions. Probably because not many people knew how to set it up I suspect. I've seen like 1 or 2 in the entire time I've played QWTF have actual restrictions on specific classes. TFC didn't really have them either outside of specific maps.
Grenades on the other hand I can agree on though, since knocking out things that slowed down the game ( Sentry nests ) were significantly easier to manage back then. Hell, they even had a map called EngBat in QWTF where you can only run engineers with two flags and even they could deal with enemy engineers thanks to EMP and FRAG grenades. Railgun was pretty effective too since Dispensers back then had to be run into, then selected that you wanted metal, same with repairing buildings. Dispensers also never gave health either outside of MEGA TF's version of the dispenser, where medics could put health into it.
The biggest Question is:
Will the Pyro Update be a two day Update?
Isnt two days a bare minimum for a major update?
Didn't major updates used to be like 3-5 days long, sometimes being even longer depending on the contents?
Rather than whining about how TF2 sucks why doesn't the community essentially recreate the game using the lambda fortress mod as a platform?
you could in theory add all the optimizations you like while simultaneously giving the game the love it needs.
After coming back from Warframe it sickens me how a great game like TF2 is neglected by its developers, and I hate to see the game in the sorry state that its in today.
Just a thought. (maybe a fevered dream at most.)

because that's about a million times easier said than done, and despite doom and gloom TF2 is an amazing game plagued by a few big issues, not something that needs to be burnt down to start anew

this year was pretty shitty but 2015 was one of our most content-dense years of all time (especially in the latter half), and the fact is the game is still receiving far more active support than any other game its age.
we get major valve-made updates twice a year, which typically include 3-4 new maps, a plethora of balance changes (typically for the better, with a few classes needing some more attention lately: Heavy and Pyro), and a multitude of feature-additions, my personal favorite being viewmodel minmode.
The Smissmass/Pyro update is coming in December- I'd estimate three weeks at the most- and it's already been stated to include a new campaign/contracts alongside Comp Mode improvements and the long-awaited Pyro changes.
2017 is also looking to be a lot better, with the community Jungle update likely to hit in Spring (estimated due to the submission deadline, which ends in January/February, depending on what they meant by "a few months") and the typical Valve-made Summer update to hit sometime in June/July. chances are it'll be our long-awaited Heavy update, too.
obviously TF2 has problems and we aren't getting Dota or CS-levels of support, but our game is still alive and well and honestly things can only get better after MyM. I don't know where this cynicism about the state of TF2 is coming from- we've had it quite a lot worse, and it only seems like now that the TF Team is willing to do whatever it takes to bring our game back to its true glory.

Most of the recent major updates have just been 1 day updates, with the big exception being Meet Your Match, which was 2 days.
If the Pyro update is part of the Christmas update I do think we'll probably see at least a 2 day update, one day with the new Pyro weapons and another day with the new maps, contracts/weapon skins/cosmetics/taunts.
Speaking of update pages No Mans Sky just put out a big update and the design of update page looks very similar to TF2 update pages.
Why is everyone saying pyro update will be a major one?
Didnt that one blog spot just call it a class pack? I get the idea it will be a part of a major update.

If this years Scream Fortress update is a major update, I'm sure the Pyro Update will.
It's going to have achievements, new weapons, balance changes, and hats. That sounds major enough compared to what else we get.

Pretty sure a Class getting new Achievements, Reworks, three new weapons and such can be considered Major.
I don't know if too many people are still around from the old times but does anyone remember when for example a medic got a class update? Everyone was playing medic on both teams. Literally, everyone. Same thing with pyro and other class updates. Those days i like to see once more, so hopefully pyro does get new achievements, weapons and such. Not just nerfs/improvements to existing ones.

I would love to see everyone running around as pyro
I remember pyromania being the worst time to use the pocket pistol because there were so many pyros.
If each class got a Update these days, it would take 5 years for Valve To release them all
(Because Valve only does 2 Major updates a Year these days, discounting Halloween)

the engineer update was a fucking nightmare for this

Yes but i would believe its still a PART of it. Not just it being the major update.
To be honest I wish major updates were just achievements and a few new neat additions. Holding back balance changes seems like a complete waste to me, especially given the games current state. If Valve was serious about the MyM update they would have shipped a balance patch in September, instead of holding it back until December. And god help us all if they stick in another campaign to bill the update as massive.
bring back old pre f2p update tf2
Yes but i would believe its still a PART of it. Not just it being the major update.
Course. Which makes me believe it will be a 2 day Update - 1 Day being the campaign, comp improvements etc. , the other the Pyro Update.
