Dota players were expecting the next new hero reveal, something that usually happens during TI. It happens to be a hero of a group of 4 elemental heroes, that are tied to gems of different colors. That triangle symbol had 4 different gemstones. You can see were I am going After the shock people will probably be curious copy pasted
I bet this is one of these 3 big VR games they talked about. This one will probably be the only one running on Source 2 engine XD. I just hope Valve will announce something worthy really soon, because even I am already loosing my hope.... Even though I already lost it, as I´m one of those who don´t plan to move on to VR within the coming 2 years and as Valve´s games are now supposed to be VR exclusive, it´s nothing for me anyway...
Card game being a full VR game they promised? Please, stop. Valve said the games are full games, not demos, and are VR focused. Card game is obviously regular game with microtransactions.
Only now?
I wish.
glad to see our money is in the production for the upcoming game left 4 dead 3
Even if I am severely disappointed, I am curious to see how it'll play. I won't judge it before we get to see some gameplay and reading that text already is making me interested.

I'm not into card game but knowing Valve I'm sure it'll be good, just like for Dota2 back in the days I'll give it a try and maybe get addicted.
I wonder how often they would plan to do expansions for Artifact given that despite a there's a couple months between every major update in Dota 2 there's maybe only 1 new hero introduced every year. They would theoretically run out of material to use pretty quickly unless they base cards off of the workshop items and even those have come down to a trickle.
I feel like there'll be a 90% chance they'll cross over with their other games. (As in include cards of characters from other games or something)
So they opened an official Artifact Facebook page. 2 five star reviews with no written review for those 5 stars. Also;

If they want to compete with games like Hearthstone then they probably want to go for the mobile market as well.
Here's my speculation/expectations on this card game. This may or may not turn out to be true as we learn more about the game, so I'm just dumping my thoughts as I go: - The game will likely be made in one of several engines; Unity (like Hearthstone), Source 2, or stand-alone Panorama. Valve has already been using Panorama extensively in Dota 2 for many things including the player cards stuff, which may be the basis/root idea for the Artifact TCG. Panorama has also been used in Steam's Big Picture Mode for a while (before Dota 2, in fact), so Artifact might also be using a stand-alone Panorama engine (seperate from Dota 2 or Source 2 integration). It might even be directly integrated into Steam like Big Picture Mode is. - This hasn't been confirmed yet, but trading will likely be a big part of the game. Much like Steam trading cards, you would be able to trade Artifact cards for monetary value or other cards. - There might be a good amount of different rarities for cards. So cards will not only be used for play, but for collection purposes too (like rare versions of hats in Dota 2). Rarities might also be shown off during play with certain effects representing rare or ultra rare versions of cards. There could be several versions of a certain card (ie. Cartoony-version Axe, 3d render version Axe, etc.), with different rarities and/or stats and gameplay effects attached to them. - The game will most likely support VR straight out of the box and have a "top down looking-at-the-board"-type view with controller/VR Knuckle support. It might even have a first/third-person view for cosmetic purposes (much like Dota 2's VR lets you look and walk around in first person as a spectator). - (This isn't likely, but;) Models might or might not be used for gameplay or cosmetic purposes on the board. - A workshop might be present for the game, where artists can submit artwork in various styles, or effects can be tied to certain cards, or different board game visuals/skins can be submitted, etc. Lots of potential! - Cross-game promotion and/or cosmetics. Own something in Dota 2? Maybe it has an equivalent in Artifact, or vice versa. New game comes out soon? Maybe a fun <promoted game>-themed gameplay (or cosmetic) card is yours to collect and play! - Just like with team/player cards in Dota 2, collecting a full set of cards (ie. all radiant heroes) might unlock additional effects in-game or something else entirely. - (Super unlikely, but;) Cards may have wear, like CS:GO gun/knife skins. $700 *Pristine* Holographic Ultra Secret Rare Immortal "Axe taking a dump in the Radiant's jungle" versus $200 ^Worn^ Holographic Ultra Secret Rare Immortal "Axe taking a dump in the Radiant's jungle". All cards are unpackaged as Pristine quality. Quality goes down through playing the card in games. Can be be "protected" with card sleeves (purchased in singles or packs). Worn cards could potentially be "recycled" or traded. (please GabeN no don't do this quality thing :dogwow:). - Limited-time, seasonal and other types of rare cards. This will likely make Valve *lots* of money. Jesus...
i dont like the logo, for real if you put "triangle logo" on google you will find the same logo everywhere...
Who is this even made for? Hearthstone's setting works because it uses characters from multiple games, this only ever really stands to gain a fraction of Dota 2's playerbase. If they were going to follow this tgc trend then why not make it based within the entire Valve universe?
They already have Steam Trading Cards which don't have much use aside from cosmetic stuff on user pages and selling them on the market. It would've been cool if they made a card game that let you use all of your cards and badges, maybe even make it so the steam backgrounds can be used as table tops in the game, or something. It would still come across as a cash grab, but it would give purpose to the trading card system that they already have on Steam. The only problem would be how many cards there are that would need gameplay stats and getting other companies on board with letting their cards be used in the game.
Shame on you, VALVe...!!! How can this happen ? Every VALVe game was a milestone in the history of VG. A DOTA Card game? This has to be a joke. A red herring.

I'll be a bit obvious but still wanna add my pennie. I mean, 4 years without proper games. 4 years of playing around with VR, Dotka and CS:GO. And now they roll out card game. This is a bit too underwhelming for the fans of a company that imo always created trends, not copied them. Yes, the game might be good with announced concept and it has a big potential to have it splayerbase but still it's not the type of the game people wait for.
We still don't know much about it. I'd hold off on judging Artifact until we get some gameplay and/or more information on it.

We have gone full circle. A card game, with its universe and lore based on a game that had its universe and lore from a game that also had a card game built from its universe and lore. I'm not surprised that people are disappointed. Valve never made games based on what the community wanted, but rather based on what Valve themselves wanted to make. It's what separates them from the other large gaming companies. What I want to know is, who at Valve would want to work on a card game of all things?
You can go back even further. Warcraft was inspired by Warhammer, which also has its own (physical) card game, and table-top RPG.
What I want to know is, who at Valve would want to work on a card game of all things?
Plenty of people, I assume. A lot of software engineers are into card games. To a crazy extend. Why wouldn't they want to make something that they enjoy?
