Are you trying to apply rules of third? I don't believe you are doing it right.
I'm no expert, but from my experience, Scout is way too far to right. Despite the motorcycle and the background, it leaves a ton of empty space on the left and an EXTREMELY HUGE gap in the middle, simply because there is not much to look at and the background is very plain.
For reference, here is the typical grid used for rules of third.
[t]http://digitalphotographylive.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/rule-of-third.png[/t]
Here is the same grid applied over your picture, but with shitty red lines and black dots (imagine they're straight) because I don't know how to edit.
[t]http://www.wduwant.com/index_uploads/uploads/bcdc9016cf.jpg[/t]
If you move Scout so that the area above his crotch is aligned with the bottom right dot, and the center of his chest is aligned with the top right dot, I believe that the image will look much better.
Typically what you want to do (or at least what I do) is try to align parts of the subject to the dots of the grid, such as the subject's dominant eye to the top left dot or something like that.
Other things you can do is to have a much more interesting or pleasing background, or include more props.
Please don't take this post as bad criticism or hostile, I've just noticed MANY other SFM users (especially the SFM promo makers in the Europium thread) doing this. Again, I'm no expert, so I may be wrong about some parts.
-rule of thirds-
I read about the rule a long time ago and didn't bother to double check how to do it, I thought it just involved placing elements in the three vertical sections (like it actually turned out) and making it so they didn't cross over to the other sections. Thanks for the feedback, might redo it when I have the time.

You're welcome; if you do want to get some more advice, you should check out the Screenshots, Movies, Saves and Dupes subforum. There's mostly Gmod pics, but many of the same rules and tips apply to SFM and making promos.
Another Spielberg masterpiece

Do we have a SFM help thread? I'm trying to set up a way for me to have a texture overlay that tells me where ultrawides borders are and any sort of grid that I need.
the sfm board died some time ago. though it's hidden and can still be accessed (and there's a thread in general games discussion) that kind of killed the tiny facepunch sfm community.

Requesting a video about unlocks in competitive that a user here put together with clips from matches and explanations.
I remember a soldier saving his medic from an enemy kritz sticky flung across the map with a backup charge. Was on Borneo or Swiftwater.
Anyone know what happened to all the versions of that old wallpaper of Heavy with a Sandvich in the iTunes commercial format, the one with the green background? It's like they all disappeared from the internet.
I can't find one through Google search without a gross white border to it, and not a very good size either for a wallpaper
If anyone's still got that image somewhere, I'd really appreciate it if you shared it!
What's about this one?
Thanks, but that one's a bit edited and they put a lot of blank space into the image.
Luckily, I've found a copy of the original image, not sure if it's the size the image was when it was originally used as promotional material.
It had some watermark, why would you add a watermark to official promotional material like this?! I took out the watermark and now here it is, sharing it: http://puu.sh/naXHX/c12b3675cd.jpg
Screw it, I'm done selfposting my dumb videos here. Anybody want to try and find the worst TF2 SFM made for shits and giggles?

Actually, no. I realized that all of my videos are dumb to me, and after that, I decided to think about what could possibly be the dumbest video in the fandom. It has absolutely nothing to do with the criticizing, and if you'll actually look at the Agree tags on ElderLolz's post, you'll see my name there. I entirely agreed with their comments, I had no returning statements since there was nothing to add and I made that video to stop a drought first and foremost.
If you really want to watch what video I just made, it's linked below. Feel free to shit on it however you want, I've already been told to kill myself because of these, can't really get much worse.

I mean, if people are telling you to kill yourself over videos you make, then maybe the problem isn't your videos.
It's one thing to not take criticism (*cough cough*), but it's another thing entirely to stop because of rude shit people are saying to you. Keep making videos. Prove them wrong.
I wouldn't take "kill yourself" comments seriously, if the intent was serious or as a joke. (Just look at Pyrocynical)
Keep working on your stuff, you'll find your groove.

I'm not stopping making videos because of criticism or "kill yourself" comments, I've been online for 15 years. I'm stopping posting my videos here because while I appreciate the whole criticism thing, I'm going to stop being a selfpromoting whore. I'm still trying to find my place in humor, so my videos are still... no, they're just bad.

You might wanna look into a better mic and sort out some of your render settings. why is there letterboxing and fps dips?

The chin needs to be moved a bit forward, because right now if you ignore the lips, he has a huge overbite, and it just looks silly :P.
Not to mention it would make his chin larger and appear more manly.
I really love the shading, though. I can't do something like that myself and was hoping you could give me some insight on your process, or maybe just some tips (Hint: I can neither pick the right shades nor blend them correctly)

I could be one, but everyone's too focused to tell me to shut up around me.
And my mic's kinda acting weird

I legit have no idea why there's FPS dips, my PC is beefy enough to run this maxed but it just isn't. Letterboxing is because I have a 2560x1080 resolution, if you have an ultrawide monitor, you'll see that the video fully stretches to your monitor. I also can't afford a better mic, this is a $2 one and it's doing... pretty damn good for itself.
Also, if I'm "better" than FUNKe (ha I fucking wish), then aren't I the best STAR_ ripoff on FP? Oh no wait, I need to make videos about mods first. nvm

Gotta stop forgetting to flip pics horizontally. Is it better now?
not sure what to tell you about shading and I dont wanna be one of those cringey shit artists that make bad guides, so heres a general resource. You can find some art books on the /ic/ Alt Art thread too
