4:3 is worse than 16:9 in every way and anyone who says otherwise is the kind of person who argues that 'nobody needs higher than 30 FPS because that's all the human eye can see.'
Yeah I imagine they do it thinking "well doods r now wider so their ez to shoot yes" which IS kind of true, but in reality you get the same effect by just lowering fov_desired since you are effectively just gimping your FOV anyway by cutting off the corners of your vision and stretching the resulting square. Using the FOV method you at least won't get any warping effect, but it's still not a smart thing to do because of reasons illustrated in the textbook CS:GO example above.

I have a 4x3 monitor which most video upload sites dont seem to support, resulting in ugly black bars on the sides. So I stretched it using vegas to make it a bit nicer to look at.
However, that was the last time I did that because my monitor literally stopped working today :v:
