I mostly hate the new stock weapon materials, they lost their tf2 stylization and their worn metallic genuine look, the phong masking on them used to look great.
And they don't even look consistent to the unlockables, all of those use the sharp old weapon lightwarp while the stock ones use this dumb soft lightwarp.
( Not every change here is bad, like the fall damage sounds were really weird, just a generic dude that sounds nothing like the class you play as, and the warp/distortion sprite used in water impact particle is actually expensive and it genuinely would lower fps in some situations. )
It's pretty sad how we have worse graphics [I]and[/I] far worse performance in 2017 TF2 than we did at launch.

It's amazing how many things I forgot were in TF2, like the sapper models when you remove them from a building (I swear I remember them being in the game up until a year or 2 ago).
Then there's the visual downgrades on the weapons (the lack of animations which were in the '07 build surprised me the most and even the textures got worse and lower-def).
Don't the sapper gibs spawn if it destroys the building?

This pisses me off not just because TF2 looks worse now but whenever I try to explain it to people who aren't observant enough to notice they say "nothing has changed".
Things have changed mostly for the worse in terms of prop shading and weapon models.

This is actually sad, wish these old models were the ones in-game. Isn't the code of this game the reason for its poor optimization anyway?

The changes make sense, as the rise and addition of cosmetic slots puts a heavier toll on the game. It just irritates me that they force-prevent people with beefier computers from restoring it through commands. It's what's to be expected when the team lets things slowly amass over time though, and you end up with more visual downgrades and errors than you can keep track of.

Aren't the graphical downgrades on the weapons because they stopped using the world and view models in favor of the unified C model system? The C models have different materials and textures from the view models and world models

At least from a technological standpoint, they are much better, especially when you take into account the many skins and variants there are of the standard weapons
But Valve really should put in the work some time after the Jungle/Pyro update to fix the materials and animations of the C models, in a way, it is a minor thing, but it's one of those small details that i, you guys, and i'm certain many others, think a lot of people would appreciate in the long run
If only there was a way to get that message out there...
I'll repeat what I said in videos and speculation:
The day DX8 support is dropped like a bag of hammers, is the day we can finally get good optimization.
That Crowbcat video is right about the lighting and models but Jesus it's over dramatic. Not the mention the part where he tries to pick up the weapon is pretty dumb when you can clearly see an ammo pack fly out at the same time.
Also I mentioned this in the video section thread but now Crowbcat fans are gonna push this video around whenever tf2 is mentioned for a few weeks which sucks because it ignore a lot of bigger problems with the game and the Pyro update is due in a few weeks as well (probably why he made it).

I really don't get the point of that video. Pretty much every shot of the lighting changes looks way better, the way it used to look gave everything the appearance of highly reflective rubber or plastic. Granted, stuff like removing of gibs for sappers and other objects that can be destroyed kinda sucks from a visual standpoint, but that was done for a reason. Items that can be picked up for metal or ammo refills still have gibs and physics, but sapper gibs for example do neither, so there's no reason for them to exist when their removal can just be marked by a particle effect. It also is pretty important that dropped weapons don't get blown around by phyiscs because you can pick up weapons from the same class and use them, which Crowbcat obviously didn't mention in the video because cherry picking with no context is his thing by this point
Fair enough on the water effects looking crappier though, for the... 3 maps that have water
