"Hardly a Deadly Blutsauger" Sounds about right.

This was found in a Disney Infinity video. Interesting if you ask me.

Yeah it's literally just them using the Sniper as a reference for good character design and unique styling. Nothing else. That being said, it's really cool that almost 10 years after the game came out it still has an impact on people like Disney artists.

With so many characters in DI now, you'd think their style was so thoroughly developed that they wouldn't need that sniper picture as a reference. Also, there existing style is way more caricaturized then TF2 anyways.
I wouldn't call Sniper a caricature at all
I wouldn't call Sniper a caricature at all
Especially the portraits like that one, the whole collection of the portrait sized paintings are somewhat realistic compared to the in-game models. Also, the screen states princess leia is a feminist, and that the words come from Lucas himself. How does an artist make a caricatured model look "feminist"?

Chances are they are just using that word as a basis for the character's personality, which can help how they draw the character. For example, more stereotypically "manly" characters (usually adult males) will have jagged, solid features (squares, triangles), where as more "feminine" characters (usually females or young males) will have more curved, elegant shapes (circles primarily) used.

Hardly. more detailed and hand painted If anything.
Overwatch's character designs just seem a bit too off. They're supposed to represent a group of mercenaries, but so far the only people that seem close to a militaristic group is only a slim few while other dudes are your over-the-top badguys (mainly that purple chick and the grim reaper) and heroes (clint eastwood). TF2 has that perfect fit since the classes actually represent a group of mercenaries from varying backgrounds.
This is the one big thing cartoon class-based shooters miss every time. I mean, look at Block'n'Load, a mediocre game by Jagex with an inexplicable amount of good reviews. [t]https://3m6ok5roj7q1lfxor15yilh164s-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/block-n-load-preview-wide.jpg[/t] You've got Rambo, a toy robot, a mad doctor, a construction worker, a ninja, and an explorer fighting together as a team, in a world made entirely of blocks with an emphasis on tactical base construction and teamwork. Why? How do they fit together? What's their place in this universe? Plus, rather than having a generic, descriptive, and easily identifiable name like the Ninja or the Constructor, they've got these long and difficult to remember names that tell you nothing about their gameplay and are difficult to quickly call out to your team; AND they have no good system for identifying teams. And every TF2 wannabe does this. Why? that said i think overwatch is doing an ok job with character design compared to the other tf2 wannabes, but i'm waiting to play it myself before i judge it too harshly

They aren't really guns for hire and they aren't even all reliant on guns so I think it fits for them to be sort of superhero/villain teams. The biggest problem with this is that you can have heroes and villains on both teams, which is good from a game aspect in that you can play whoever you want no matter what team you are on, but bad from a thematic aspect in that you can have the grim reaper dude working alongside the friendly robot guy to kill the zen monk dude who is working with the murderous assassin lady. But you can't really fault Overwatch's characters for not resembling mercenaries enough when they aren't in fact mercenaries. I mean the game even refers to them as 'heroes'.
colorful over the top character desings with extremely unoriginal stereotypes for the sake of role identification
No problem with this on its own, TF2 did it too. But in TF2, the stereotyped characters just feel right together.
(wich also have different models for each team)?
No they don't, and they don't in many other cartoony games riding on TF2's coattails either.
i mean why didn't they named the constructor-looking dude "constructor"? its like they didn't even though about new players being confused about a ninja-looking dude doing ninja-stuff
Except the cosmetics are fully body, so he's not even always a ninja. You get one that makes him look like a trucker or something for free. Also his name is O.P. "Shinobi" Juan or something like that, what the hell does that even mean?
i mean its like they didn't even write a 50 page essay about the game's background and lore like tf2 did at launch.
You can have a sane and consistent universe without writing any meaningful story. It's just kinda ugly when you randomly slap character designs together like this, makes it feel rough around the edges, and doesn't do quick identification of classes and their roles any favours. Final Combat's line up is a good example too, though I think they did a slightly better job. Why is there a fireman with a rocket launcher fighting with an animu nurse, Captain Checkmark or whatever over there, and an edgelord pyromaniac? They just look strange together.
how dare a childish game based off minecraft
....What? It has nothing in relation to Minecraft, and even if it did, no game is "based off Minecraft" except for the shitty third-party rip-offs on XBLA and Steam Greenlight.
