I think he's just appealing to his demographic.
When montage parodies and stuff got big sin was like "oh shit I can do this too" and thus began the endless stream of "ironic" airhorns, mountain dew, text to speech, hitmarkers, etc

So me and a few friends were playing on a 10 man nvm server and decided to play all as engineer. For some reason my recording software didn't pick up my voice, sorry for that and the low quality

OH MAN
Say, a long time ago I watched a Gmod TF2 video about the heavy stealing the engineer's sandvich on the Yukon map, and the latter calling the scout and the sniper to get revenge
Does someone remember this video and can find it? I'd be EXTREMELY grateful
Adblock exists because content creators (website owners, stream services) got greedy and pushed for more intrusive advertisements.
I have to disagree with this one. When you monetize videos, you can't pick what ads you want to display. Without putting ads on your videos, you have no way to make money off of them besides indirect sources (Patreon etc.) and those are a unreliable source of income. Blame the intrusive ads on Youtube's lack of options for content creators.
Bullshit.
If you allow Youtube to put ads on your video and you receive money for those ads, you are giving tacit approval of said ads. If you do not approve of the ads, you have no right to accept money for them. You can't blame Youtube for their ads while simultaneously profiting off those very same ads.
No one's forcing you to put ads on your videos. No one's forcing you to host them on Youtube. Is it nice to make ad revenue? You bet. Is Youtube easier and more convenient than other services? It sure is. But if their ads go against your principles, yet you accept money for those ads anyways and refuse to take responsibility for your choices, your principles are worth jack shit and you're a spineless hypocrite.

well thats HALF of youtube's problem...the other half is google
Who knows who you are, knows where the area you live, and EVERYTHING YOU SEARCHED FOR
(Is currently being bombbarded by ads about cars just cause the day before they did a search for car parts to fix their car with a 25% chance said ad would be in spanish due to living in florida)
If the ads were actually relevant then I'm sure folks wouldnt use adblock so much

Everyone should be able to receive money from creating content they put time and effort into without being accused of "jewing" or money grubbing. I'm with you that ads are bad but as it stands it's the only way for creators to make reliable money and thus be rewarded for their work.

I didn't accuse anyone of that. You're completely off base and misunderstanding me at best, and putting words in my mouth and strawmanning at worst.
If someone doesn't like the ads, they don't have to run them. If they run the ads anyway and make money off them, they have no right to complain about them. They are complicit.
It's like if you took a job doing something immoral, then blamed your employer for them "making" you do immoral things. That'd be bullshit, because you agreed to do those immoral things for money. If you honestly weren't okay doing them, you wouldn't do them in the first place, money or no.
I'm with you that ads are bad but as it stands it's the only way for creators to make reliable money and thus be rewarded for their work.
No, you're not "with me" on anything. I didn't say a single thing about whether I personally thought ads were bad or not. You can't possibly agree with my view on that matter because I didn't give it. Once again, you're either leaping to unsubstantiated conclusions, or you're trying to put words in my mouth.
I think its mostly folks who have to VIEW the ads that complain about them the most, though theres also a ok thing to do if youtube runs irrelevant ads on your stuff (though thats also again google adsense also causing folks getting irrelevant ads too as I actually had to TURN ON my adsense stuff to get relavent ads to my interest instead base on my searches and area)

Thats IF your employer wants to tell you what you are doing...
Sometimes they tell you to do a thing that seems innocent enough until later on you realize it had stuff that wasnt very legal...
but youtube isnt like that, its a business partner not an employer as folks who do use youtube ads for revenue tend to have an actual primary or a secondary to it to make profits to not heavily rely on ads.

you constantly come off disliking ads...so maybe actually pick your spot on that section instead of saying you dont have one. If you dont have one you sorta dont actually have a say in the situation...
How can I constantly come off disliking ads when I haven't said a single thing about them?
Punchy said Adblock was created because Youtubers pushed for intrusive ads.
Then _Pai said that wasn't true, and Youtubers didn't have a say in what ads got run.
I responded by saying, yes they do have a say - if Youtubers don't like the ads that Youtube runs, they can stand for their principles and reject those ads and the revenue such ads bring in.
Nowhere did I say anything about my opinion on the ads. Don't read more into my statements than is actually there.

So, the question formed from the hole in all of this - what if you want ad money, but also don't like the ads youtube runs?

As this discussion appears to have gotten off track, let me address your argument, which by your own admission is:

Unfortunately, there's not much else a Youtuber can do. Ads are the only way to make direct money from making videos. Unless they want to live off the generosity of random strangers on Patreon which is very fickle. No sane youtuber would do this, and if people demand it, then it comes off as a bit entitled to demand that the creator, especially if he does it for a career, stop making money and still produce videos on a regular basis.
So, the question formed from the hole in all of this - what if you want ad money, but also don't like the ads youtube runs?
...cope?
It's a pretty straight forward moral dilemma. You want money, but the easiest way to do it is something you disagree with on basic principle? You can either abandon your integrity and sell out your values, or you can stick to what you believe in and find another solution.
If you can't in good faith agree to Youtube's business practices, do business with someone else - there are plenty of other places to host your videos online. Or you could possibly enter into negotiations with Youtube to work toward convincing them to change their practices - there are people already working toward this goal, including a number of highly influential and famous Youtubers.
Or you could just not run ads at all on your videos, and support your work yourself. Or you could set up a "tip jar" and accept donations from fans (without any need to "demand" or "expect" to be patronized, mind you). Or you could seek out a grant or endowment from any of various organizations which offer such boons. And if none of that works out, you could always just decide that if you can't make Youtube videos without doing something you object to, you just won't make Youtube videos because you value your integrity more.
There are a number of options, even if each one has various strengths and weaknesses. But no one is forcing you to do something you object to. If you go along with it, that's your choice and your responsibility.
I see that this is an art thread, but can I post one of my drawings, not an SFM?
Alrighty, here's my personal favorite/"best" of mine:

Don't see why anyone would object. Drawings are art, and are certainly a kind of media, and this is the thread for that!

If you're saying he doesn't deserve to have anything more than living expenses you're just being a dick to be honest.
I'm not saying he doesnt deserve money for a living, far from it. I'm saying he made the wrong move asking for people to make an effort and support his videos when his focus should have been on providing reasonable alternatives and explaining ads rather than straight up saying "please enable them".

When i listed website owners, i was referring to youtubes lackidaisical attempt to give videomakers the ability to disable unskippable/skippable ads and so on
