I dont think overwatch has gibs; dead heroes flop over no matter what killed them (which i guess makes mercy's ult make more sense than if the player just teleported back onto the field? idk, but it is definitely less graphically violent).
OW has minimal blood and no gibs, I'm not saying Valve shouldn't or won't add female classes due to fear of backlash, just think a couple people would get a bit cross over it. Though looking at it no one got mad with female characters being in pubg, besides "overly detailed" models, so no one would probably care.
I sorta forget that TF2 has gibs and blood because I've got some old highframes settings that make people just disappear when they die. You've got a point about it being more gruesome. I think it'd still get a pass by and large, but really I guess it doesn't matter because it's never going to happen anyway.
I know you think you're doing girls favours by saying "well they can't be in the game because then people would get mad!", but I'm going to let you in on a little secret: you're doing the exact opposite. Nobody else had this train of thought. Nobody else saw that post and went "but then girls would get blown up and valve would be responsible!!" I don't even know how you could come to such a batshit insane conclusion. It's bad. Stop thinking it. Leave it at that. Rate me whatever you want, if you think I'm being an asshole for saying this to you, then rate me asshole, but for the love of everything holy don't bring fucking gender politics into this forum. This isn't the time or place for gender politics.
Women getting killed in multiplayer video games has caused a stir before, borealis' assertion that people have done this in the past and might again is not without a reason. Not so much gender politics as it is people having double standards for violent video games. It's not batshit insane, there have been minor controversies over just that and saying It's bad. Stop thinking it. is quite possibly the most childish way of dealing with something, you quite literally want someone to stop thinking something you deem bad, I don't even need to simplify or paraphrase, you said this verbatim.
I wasn't responding to I don't want to stir anyone up. Gender representation is a prevalent idea but I thought (I don't think this myself) that other people would get angry with the representation if women were targets of extreme violence. That Valve would get negative feedback for treating men and women the same way, ironically. I do not care at all about video game violence. No company should fear actions becuase of potential outrage, unless its outrage over anticonsumer practices.
it would be cool if we have a full all female mode (like pl_girlwater i guess) instead of just adding one girl but damn trying to find the best suitable VA for it must be a pain
Show me one example of women getting killed in multiplayer video games being controversial that actually made news. Please. I implore you. And yes, I will always tell people that think stupid things to stop thinking them. I promise nobody of importance would get mad. The people that do only try to stir up controversy. It isn't a real problem and you needn't worry about it. If Overwatch can survive with pretty girls getting shot, only making news because the girls are "too sexy you can see their butts", I doubt Valve would see any trouble. I can respect actually being genuinely worried, but women getting blown up in a mess of cartoon gibs is not going to set off drama alert alarms.
People blow this whole gender and race thing out of proportion. Does there need to be fair representation and treatment of people regardless of background? Sure. That's just being a decent person. But you don't have to put things in places where they'll trigger idiots and create pointless controversy. I had someone tell me that TF2, a period piece, can be seen in some ways as a female-dominated game; nine of the most ruthless, depraved killers fighting a war, but actually for a pair of women that control, see, and know EVERYTHING. A war that has as even escaped the reach of the billionaire patriarchs that started it. The most recent comic drove that home quite a bit. The administrator having completely thralled the plot if TF2 for her own personal vendetta, Australium collection, and master plan has become obvious, and how miss Pauling's role over the years has expanded has done a good job with making her a worthwhile character and not just a cute secretary crush for scout has been fantastic too.
Not really worried since Valve doesn't listen to outrage culture and the chances of TF2 getting new content on a level of a class alternative is pretty low, (and just not worried in the first place) Yeah like I said like seven people would get mad, but the ravenous news sites would still pick it up and try to make it blow up for that ad money, which is an issue with a greater scope than just TF2. Anyway I wonder if that SQL issue impacted or will impact the next TF2 update's release date.
New female reskins of the mercs could make Valve a lot of money through a whole new set of cosmetics but it would be a huge amount of work and honesty the TF2 team's probably better focusing their time on other areas.
https://twitter.com/TeamFortress/status/978906496175140864 It's back!
tbh one of the reasons I like tf2 a bunch is because all the characters are actually people I could imagine killing someone in the most violent ways possible, meanwhile in games like overwatch you've got the qt 3.14 nerd gf ramming icicles in peoples throats while mumbling about friendship
I have already asked you to provide evidence for you accusations. But you don't provide evidence. You did it there: TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 Here you claimed: My arguments have been debunked. My argument form has been debunked. My motivations have been debunked. My points on random crits are ill informed. (This may be redundant) You also did it there: TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 You claim that my questions are nonsensical or circular. You claim that I evade questions. You claim that I move the goalposts. You also made a (really weird) accusation about my motivation for something there. Then proceeded to knowingly mislabel your arguments as the socratic method- but wait, you prefaced it with "well, but not really" as an escape hatch because you knew you'd be called on it. You provided no evidence in either of those 2 posts. What has happened to the burden of proof in regard to all of those assertions you made? Have you assumed all accusations are true by default, and that they must be disproved to show innocence? If you have, then consider this (utterly and completely absurd) accusation to have been leveled against you: you are responsible for every single crime that has ever been committed, any of your arguments or claims that you didn't do so are deceptive and/or false. (u monsta!1!1!11) What pro-crit assertions have I failed to provide evidence for? Show me them, and maybe I will provide evidence. Can you prove your claim that >in virtually every random crit post you've made, arguing yourself into a corner and running out of points, where then you start asking diversionary questions in an attempt to shift the responsibility of answering to your detractors, and save face. It's not my job to look for the evidence for your claims, you do that. If say I have had received legitimate criticism that I have not answered, then show me it and I shall respond to it. Keep in mind that just making an accusation without giving supporting evidence (like you are doing), is not legitimate criticism. If you can not prove an accusation because to do so would require time travel and mind reading, then why are you even making that accusation in the first place? What kind of fuckery am I doing? Can you prove that I have "dunning-kruger ineptitude"? Can you prove that this is an insult to people's intelligence? Can you prove that I have failed spectacularly? So as a sort of TL;DR: Prove your accusations or retract them.
The whole shitshow that was Gears of War 3's Female characters for example got a lot of media coverage, most of it being gawker sites like kotaku and the likes of. But then you have UT99 with female avatars being torn to shreds just like male ones and no one ever gave a fuck about it.
Who knew using the Back Scatter would be really fun. I'm considering getting a strange one.
The engineer seemed pretty sane.
I think no one gave a crap about UT99 because PC gaming wasnt popular the general public compared to consoles at the time so it just stayed doing its own thing on tpo of that everyone became overly sensitive about stuff that doesnt matter like that tracer's butt controversy on recent years compared to the past
we can all agree that was just blizzard pulling a stunt on everyone to raise even more awareness on OW. like Randy Pitchford announing r34 of battleborn was being made (just like blizzard also did by sueing those making SFM porn of OW.)
I am getting friend invites from phising or scam site bots every few days. All of them have had a picture of some random selfie of a woman or anime girl as their avatar, and most of them have a female name. Why do they keep adding me?
Do you have anything up on tf2op, bp.tf or services like that? That happened a lot to me back when i traded, usually right after i bumped my posts on said services.
kinda nuts just how many positive reactions the tf team got for using their bloody twitter account, 'magine what kind of gigantic circlejerk would errupt if they actually communicated more frequently
(this is a pointless rant, english is not my first language, I'm tired and sad, feel free to skip, etc.) Man. They really try to be respectful. Maybe that's just projection of my part, but they still sound bitter to me. I wasn't able to watch the documentary when it was streamed, but I think I've heard similar thoughts then as well. It really hurts watching this. I can't imagine people putting so much energy into this game that I love so much and then watching Valve do so much less than necessary. I don't get why Valve doesn't do anything. I don't understand why they thought the matchmaking update was okay, or if they didn't think that why they still pretended it was. The fact that their other games get so much love and support (well, at least Dota, I've heard the CS community isn't exactly spoiled as well) just makes it worse. Kinda reminds me of when I was in school. I'm kind of lazy, so I used to be really nice and all to my teachers at the start of the year, then did less and less as time went on. The teachers would make up their image of me at the start of the year and then grade me for that. Worked most of the time. This is a company that loves games, and gaming, and gamers, and put so much innovation and thought into this game, and what they do now is rest on that reputation and watch it break down. They get so much feedback from their community, they watch the players do everything they fail to accomplish, from esports over bugfixes to balancing, and they don't do anything towards that. In fact, sometimes their actions actually hurt those efforts. Sometimes, when that view is challenged, they do one or two communication posts, just so someone can say "see, they're still like that!". Just the way I did my homework in school so the teacher felt reassured that I just slipped a second there. I started playing right after the Über Update and played basically continuously until Expiration Date. That makes me relatively young in this community, but in the context of today's playerbase, I've known and seen the old, loving Valve in action. I managed a lower-rank Highlander Team for a while, we played in one season of ETF2L (and failed utterly), and afterwards I regularly played in PUGs for a while. I didn't really witness the Matchmaking Update at the time, but when I got into the game again right before Jungle Inferno, it became clear I didn't miss much. We have internal communications about the TF competitive community scene. We will let you know when we have a solution. I think Valve's failure to communicate is not just external. There was that interview with a former employee a few years ago that compared the work environment with a schoolyard. There's cliques and more and less important people, and a kind of pecking order to everything. We've discussed Valve's moving desk policy enough times here already, after all. They're Alright, I think I forgot where I was heading with this, let me just say that I'm not just fucking sad that this game is probably going to die due to neglect by its' developer, but that there is absolutely no reason for that. There's no legal problem, no funds problem, no evil shareholder problem, no hateful community problem. There is a disappointed community though. Man, I should stop playing this game already, it just makes me feel sad. All my friends already left for OW anyway Final thought: Valve deserves that the game dies. The community deserves that it lives.
I think we're more likely to get TF3 than female versions of every class or a new class in TF2.
I don't think female versions of classes will ever be an official thing because that would not add much to the game (and needs way more work as opposed to just cosmetics, not to mention the possible bugs they could introduce)
valve should not only try to bridge the gap between casual and competitive but also the gap between the team and the community.
She's subtly desensitized to killing and disposal of corpses, it's part of her job. It's to the point of being able to discuss the most efficient way to use one's time with regards to digging a shallow grave for a victim. Contrast with the visibly unhinged mercs who are only paid to kill, but aren't tasked with facing the cleanup or tying up loose ends outside of a battlefield. Each with their own motivations and responses to the onslaught. She's a different type of crazy, for sure.
honestly I'm pretty sure Ms Pauling makes more money than any of the mercs
Well, one of the reasons CS:GO and DotA 2 have good competitive modes is because they had the built - in competitive modes from the release.
She only gets one day off, though.
