TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

This is a fantastic update so far. It's too bad that I've been queued for an hour and a half for competitive without finding a match though.
TF2's matchmaking now seems most technologically advanced of any Valve game, picking maps in casual, queue for multiple modes, queuing in matchmaking games, good job on that.

WAIT A MINUTE
I keep wanting to try out pyro to get a better understanding on how the flames work now but everytime I do I end up switching off quickly because another class is needed way more lol...
From what I've gathered they still seem very functional, but it's still eyeballing at best and I need more play time to better understand it. Sad to hear about the Dragon's Fury... As I stated before they shouldn't have touched it till after they addressed the flame particles to see where it stands. But they went ahead and touched it and now it still seams flamethrowers are just far more functional then it to be worth using it at all...
It doesn't even need to be that complicated, and you don't need to explain a Generalist/Specialist split to do it.
Offense Category (Scout, Soldier, Pyro) - 2
Defense Category (Demo, Heavy, Engie) - 1
Support Category (Medic, Sniper, Spy) - 1
With no prior information, I think it'd be pretty easy for a new player to deduce that offense is prioritized to ensure the game progresses. A casual player who doesn't play comp at all will probably understand a little better why it's a good idea not to let the Defense category stack when there's so little players, and someone who actually plays comp will immediately understand why these limits are in place.
The difference between Casual TF2 and Comp TF2 is like...
Casual TF2 is checkers played by Elementary Schoolers, including a ton of batshit made-up rules that don't make any sense. Comp TF2, by comparison, is chess.
We played some Comp today. It actually works, and is actually awfully enjoyable. Does it have flaws? Yes. There are still some shite maps and no class limits, does this ruin it? No. Far from it.
Now that the base of comp actually bloody functions and is based on something good, we can build ontop of it.
Anyone else getting constantly disconnected from servers as well BTW?
yeah, and then there's the root problem of class limits
imagine you're a game developer
you want to explain to someone why your game has class limits
"well, you see, having more than 1 medic breaks my game..."
It'd be like if the next Smash Bros game made a competitive online mode that only allowed you to play the top tier characters. It makes sense from a competitive perspective to have general strategies or tier lists, but they're not something that game developers can just implement, or surgically put in. They're a distinct by-product of community involvement.
It just seems like you're downplaying the problem. They make billions in revenue, they aren't a small company and it isn't a small problem, they shouldn't be able to just jerk around the community.
It's nice that the game now informs players who in the party needs to update the game (even if it's just you) instead of trying to join a server and getting a game version mismatch thrown at your face.
Do you think they'd ever try a competitive mode or category or whatever that allowed for larger team sizes?
We've released another mandatory update for Team Fortress 2. The update notes are below. The new version number is 4440366.
Thanks.

valve removed the pins..
Word around the 2fort is that Valve removed the medals from the hat I said was infringing copyright.
But that's DUMB though. Of all 'copyright infringing' hats, the Jojo one was probably the furthest from being actually within the realms of infringement. Lame. The hat actively looks worse now.
But this is fine?

oddly selective of them to do that, have they fucked with any other hats in the past like that
It's not an M, like I said.
I believe only the Doctor's Dapper Topper; but that was originally an Uncle Sam hat that was re-textured by Valve to look like Cat in the Hat's hat.
the pins being removed is questionable considering:

The Starboard doesn't have a closed palm; nor hair in the back.
DON'T
Seems like Valve is more willing lately to make big changes to weapons rather than just tweak stats.
Also now map logic can be applied to func_croc, the crocodiles on Merc Park, from reddit:
The func_croc one is cool. I'm 99% this refers to the crocodiles on merc park. Basically the change makes it so logic can be assigned to when players get eaten. This means for example someone can make a map where the goal is to push enemies into a river and get them eaten, and the team to kill the most enemies this way wins. I can see it now 'feed the crocs'.
But... actually this is a bad idea as you can just stay in spawn as an enemy. Better idea: make it like watergate. You collect meat by killing enemies and then cash it in my suiciding in the river and getting eating by a crocodile.
And in reply:
NEW TO TEAM FORTRESS TWO! Welcome to MANNSLAND, set in the wonderful northern region of Australia! Commit to the Crococidal Code and satiate the hungering beasts by offering the blood of your enemies (and yourself) to their gaping jaws. Once you've satisfied those prehistoric predators, they'll be prime for "Relocation" to Mercenary Park!
fuck this sounds legit amazing

People are rating me funny now instead of big whoop, rofl.
So, I am just asking.
Did you actually notify valve of the close representation of the item's inspired source material?
I guess Valve's lawyers said "NO! NO!"
