How Competitive Mode Has Improved Since Launch:
* You can play Casual or Community servers while queued up
* There's actual ELO now
* The team status HUD being added was cool I guess
Problems That Have Persisted For Over Two Years Now Valve Get Your Shit Together:
* Restricted viewmodels, no ability to disable
* Restricted graphical settings at the cost of performance
* No class limits in accordance with literally every TF2 competitive format ever created
* THE QUEUES ARE PURGATORY AND ARE CONSISTENTLY UNDERPOPULATED OR BROKEN
To a casual player, Competitive Mode is a smaller pub with abandon and loss penalties. If that casual player also uses performance configs or likes to disable viewmodels for a comfortable experience/better performance, they're screwed over. To a competitive player, Competitive Mode has nothing that makes Highlander or 6v6 fun, restricts the viewmodels/configs that the majority of them are using, and is overall just a worse experience than what you can get from TF2PL, Pugchamp and TF2Center.
Why is our "Competitive update" just the addition of ELO, something that should've been there at the start? Why has Valve outright ignored the feedback of competitive players since the opening of the beta (which I was a part of in the latter stages) two years ago? What's the fucking point?
A ranking system alone does not make Competitive Mode worth playing. Did Valve just think that the only thing stopping people from playing Competitive Mode prior to this update was the lack of ELO? That implementing Glicko would suddenly make for a fun and populated Competitive Mode, and that nothing else needed to be changed?
Kudos on the balance adjustment and the wide gamut of bugfixes and QOL improvements, but Competitive Mode is supposed to be the center of this update and it still kind of fuckin sucks. I had 3 other comp friends ready to queue with me today but after we spent 2 hours in game and only got into one match (that we utterly shitstomped because of course we did), most of them lost interest and left. What's the point of a Competitive Mode that doesn't appeal to competitive players or introduce casual players into how competitive TF2 is played?
So, the problem is that the queue times are extremely long. I hope they fix it today.
Though seeing nothing about The Bad Three (Natascha, Brass Beast and Huo Long Heater) gets me upset, it's so good to see the lads over at Valve pushing out an update as big and good as this one.
The thing with the settings/viewmodel restrictions is that TF2's customizability is an anomaly for Valve and modern competitive games, CSGO/Dota 2/Overwatch are way way more restrictive with how you can customize it beyond the settings menu. It's annoying and it sucks, and TF2 could be unique among competitive games for its customizability, but it may have not been the TF team's decision. (class limits definitely are though, just need two offense and one defense/support per team)
Also the wood class cutouts for training mode were updated, can anyone see changes?
Natascha got a super buff where the slow down would basically freeze you in place but they removed it in the second patch.
this was my first and only key, hot damn

"John" just single-handedly saved TF2.
I'm playing WELL in 2018.
Everyone on the server is saying crap like "TF2 is back bois"

Having tested out many of the changes, fixes and features of this update, I must say I'm really enjoying the update. The biggest and a huge issue are super long queue times for comp. As of now I recommend to Multi-Queue: Queue for both Casual and Comp.
There's a bit more than just that, though the broken queue is making it literally unplayable.
Good way to fix the starboard crusader, source

Also according to this the 4chan person who emailed valve and got them to remove the decoration on the hat was known for stealing workshop content and did it because he didn't get an item in-game.
All I need is a mod that changes Short Circuit to an arm mounted BFG9000 + it's particles to green.
Queue seems fine to me, takes maybe 10 minutes to get into a comp match, and since you can play casual at the same time it's not a problem. Might be that you're in a region or playing at a time where there's nobody in the queue
Still, it shouldn't be 10 mins when I took 30 secs to play the dead Competitive before this Update.
Skill-based matchmaking is a norm in most shooters nowadays. It isn't fun for any party when you join a game and you have a completely clueless noob on your side/killing said clueless noob. They don't learn what to do better, because they just got fucking destroyed with mechanics they aren't even famillar with. The new player experience on the other hand isn't good either.
As far as the rest goes, it'll be acting "In the background" meaning it won't be as bloody strict as competitive. So chill your socks and continue doing stupid shit in casual if you like to.
No dignity
Is comp regaining players? I havent been here in a while.
I see Valve has yet to fix the Scout exploit...
Said exploit is so awfully harmless and honestly one of the funniest bugs the game had in a while.
Also good Sniper target practice.
Indeed, I was queuing to comp for two hours (in total) while playing Casual, and we didn't get any match.
And the Scout exploit is probably going to be fixed today.
You didn't miss much. I got into five or six matches (queue time 20-30 minutes, EU), and every single one of them was abandoned. Didn't play a single match.
We should have a Facepunch comp group or something.
Holy Moley! It feels really, really nice playing Heavy without losing 200hp to a Pyro the moment he turns his flamethrower on.
The new short circuit completely kills the soldier divebbmbing and I love it because it forces soldier players to think
Given how harsh the abandoning bans are, the abandon issue is something thatll fix itself over time. What's also to note is that given the system is entirely based on CS:GO's - you can only win 2 placements per day, after that you are locked out of comp for 21 hours.
Joined competitive, enemy team ran 2 heavy + 2 medic and steamrolled my team which already had one leaver.
Why haven't they implemented class limits yet? Boring.
casual "crashes" also affect mvm so it's most likely some fuckery with valve's servers and less about shortcircuit
so what is with these civilian scouts with infinite jumps?
if you read posts in the thread you might find out
is this true? I won two less then 21 hours ago and can still queue for competitive without anything saying I have to wait
Turns out the thing about the guy who emailed valve about the jojo hat was false:
1.- He only have a bit similar designs,he isn't stealing
2.- A lot of people have met him and can confirm he's a good person
3.- That guy even has a jojo hat on workshop made by himself.
