TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

I'm thinking of buying a Strange Potassium Bonnet.
Anyways, something interesting is that apparently there are only like 15 more of them than there are golden pans.
It's a similar case with a lot of the strange versions of graded items (the high grade ones specifcally), there tend to be only like 100-200 of them in existance.
Like that catastrophic companions strange, there are only 110 of them.
you must buy every potassium bonnet in existence and delete them all, it is your destiny
Why would I want to delete the most art-style and theme friendly hat in the game? :v:
Because grapes are better
Do we have a grape hat?
The Windows version of TF2 uses the Miles sound system which does not support HRTF. However, because both of the OpenGL ports use OpenAL for their sound, HRTF can be enabled by updating the version of the library that Steam ships with and a couple other tweaks. This works for other (though not all) Source games and is particularly helpful in L4D2 where elevation often plays a stronger role in gameplay.
So ironically, when in every other aspect the original DirectX version of TF2 is superior, the OpenGL ports have the advantage of HRTF. Apparently CSGO received full HRTF treatment in 2016 but I couldn't find much technical information about it besides people complaining over CPU usage spikes and how it sounds in-game.
So if I run TF2 in OpenGL, I can enable HRTF?
Someone made a list of balance changes for the weapons banned in 6s. Google docs link
Half of these weapons will simply never be allowed in 6s without being neutered, eventually valve will 100% be forced to cut their losses and just blacklist some weapons for comp mode, or rebuild them completely if they want to keep them.
For example, the grenade style weapons will almost certainly never be allowed, except the gas passer because the effect does basically nothing to a team fight.
jarate and milk will never ever be allowed because the healing and minicrits splash are way too powerful for a throw and forget mechanic. The banners are ok because if I take an uber trade and then I deploy a banner, you can just focus me down cause I can't jump out well, and if I do my team loses the effect- this is counterplay and is healthy and fun for the game.
But then I'm a scout and I just throw the milk after the ubers, you immediately lose and there's nothing you can do about it - likewise if I'm sniper and you are moving through choke and I throw a grenade you are immediately no longer going through said choke, which immediately nullifies your uber advantage. These are risk free and offer no counterplay, which is unhealthy, boring and a well deserved ban.
it doesn't matter how arduous they make it to charge these things, even if it takes 5 minutes I would still run them. I would run it if I could only use it once per life.
The core problem is that adding utility to classes that have semi-useless secondaries (it is almost always better to reload your scattergun. even the best pistol aimers like puoskari agree with this) carries no downside. Scout is balanced by his secondary being bad because his secondary weapon is essentially an ability to double jump. Think about it, if all scout weapons had a downside of being unable to double jump, any good scout is going to equip double jump almost all the time. though the milk would arguably still be better
I want a Watch Tab where I can view live competitive matches the way I can with Dota after Comp MM gets fixed. TF2 is fun as hell to watch, and I'd love a more streamlined experience for viewing it. Just give comp servers STV that goes live to the Watch Tab when the match does. I also want some kind of Valve sponsored major to be announced with comp MM. Basically just make the experience closer to Dota and CS. They did so much right and they're missing a big opportunity not supporting TF2.
if it helps, tf2 stream/cup/content thing essentials.tf recently got a monthly cup sponsorship from twitch, so you might find it gets a bit more exposure
So if I run TF2 in OpenGL, I can enable HRTF?
I don't believe you can use OpenGL version of TF2 on Windows, only MAC and Linux so you would need to switch to one of those OSs to use the OpenGL version.
Also the OpenGL versions of TF2 have memory issues that doesn't let you max out texture quality and according to Jill it doesn't seem like it can really be fixed.
What do you want from TF2 in 2018? guess I'll list in descending order of importance
Finished, working competitive mode
Team switching and any other features CSGO casual has that TF2's doesn't
New Heavy stuff
Better performance and paint load times
Add the new Steam VGUI improvements (dpi scaling and less cpu used when redrawing the ui)
Add Steam Audio/HRTF
War paint workshop tools
Backport Source 2's dev tools
Upgrade the lighting to the Portal 2/CSGO branch lighting
-In-game Competitive
- Thats it
the way Dragon's Fury sends people flying if you aim at their feet ... sweet sweet justice :ok:. too bad the gun is full of bugs.
oh and I'd like to use flamers again without feeling like an asshole, please thankyou valve

That's a good list, a few other things I would like:
A new tutorial that covers all 9 classes.
A new way of getting weapons through contracts instead of the mess of a system we currently have.
The ability to take your backpack pages and make them into folders for easier organization of items.
Make it easier to fight hackers on Valve servers (fewer votes required for brand new accounts with nothing on them but TF2 or accounts that have have had many reports of hacking or have been kicked for hacking many times).
Valve announces the Frontline theme will go official and be featured in an update in 2018.
I made a mission for that event, it wasn't one of the winning missions though. I'm not sure what it's final rating is, since hydrogen is still doing that. It had some issues.
The winning missions are mentioned somewhere here (and you can see your progress on the fan-tour):

Well i dunno which mission you made but whoever did downtown created one of the hardest things ive ever played. Still a shame theres inherent bugs to MvM like the gate alert noise not stopping either.

thankfully downtown doesn't have that but it has a much worse bug
something that hopefully gets hotfixed whenever Hydrogen has time to take the servers down to issue them
What I want more from TF2 in 2018.
More devs and support. I wish Valve just sold TF2 to another company that would take proper care of the game.
remember when people though that selling tf2 to companies like EA or activision was a good thing?
kids these days. they never learn.
What I want for TF2:
Better Hammer tools or an alternative similar so map makers can have an easier time working on maps with easier to use tools and optimization and be without the pain of the program crashing.

I'd bet my ass they'd fuck with the balance of the guns to make them better than stock and each other, remove random drops, and make the guns available only on the store.

Other companies would drop TF2 and make TF3, which probably would be shit.

Modern day Valve is a great example of a company that is as worse as EA, but people just deny it.

You see, Hammer is actually designed to be that way. It acts as a filter to select for the best mappers. Building a level is grueling and long, player feedback is unforgiving and abusive, and the dreams you had get crushed into a pulp.
Level designers need to be masochists.

I made the mission called Titanium Turmoil, for the map called "highground".
The map had ....... issues.

lmao, you're the guy behind that masterpiece
You really picked yourself into an uphill struggle with Highground, the layout of it is okay but the finer details on it are really funny (the upgrade station beneath the map being the greatest)
the mission wasn't all that swell either, kinda spammy and not all that difficult (some players started shitposting with fb because they thought it was funny)
but in terms of what you had to work with, it was okay enough (the tank on wave 6 is arguably the funniest thing that TT produced, tying in with one really broken run of Hillside)
For some reason my Demo's arms were invisible, the other classes were normal.

you just kinda develop a habit of pressing STRG+S after every change, besides hammer isnt that bad

I think the final version did increase the difficulty a bit.
I ended up having to make all the giants normal sized since they would get stuck in the spawn area every so often, so that may have made things confusing. The guys testing it had to use the panic button multiple times.
IIRC I tried to make it as shitposty as possible in the end.
If anyone wants to see it, the demos are over here:
