TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

Turns out I was completely wrong about us being able to manage, because I guess it made more sense to deliberately cause the problem we feared, in order to prove that we would do that??
Hey we got a Jill post on Reddit about the matchmaking changes:
Glad to hear that.
A set of changes to the matchmaker were rolled out with the brief
maintenance a few hours ago. We expect wait times should be much
improved, but we will continue to look at the data and adjust things as
necessary
borealis the hero replying directly to jill to make sure they know they fucked up flamethrower again
😩
The new matchmaker is SO much faster, I was playing at like 8 PM - 9 PM on a thursday evening and I got into matches in a few minutes. The matches were also a lot of fun, the communication makes things a lot of fun, and the addition of A/D and payload should add a lot of variety over the standard 5cp/koth fare.
Hoo boy. I put out a mapping thread right when hezzy said we should make threads for various discussions, and now it's all the way at the bottom of the page. Looks pretty... clogged.
Yeah I just realized I screwed up, I clearly should have made a "Jill Comments" thread for that Reddit post.
I think everyone here is for keeping general threads, there isn't really much of a reason to remove them and replace them with spammed quick-fire threads.
Here's to hoping ours and everyone else's comments get heard and not ignored.
On a more relevant note, it's nice to see TFTeam communicate a little more for once. Even if it may be temporary after the comp changes.
Yeah this is great! I finished a match, queued for casual and comp like usual, and when I alt tabbed back into it 10 seconds later me and some other people on my team were confused to find it was a comp game we'd joined.
I hope they didn't sacrifice batter balanced matches for better queue times.
tbh as long as they can reasonably balance elo between teams (even if skill level on a team can vary widely), I'm fine with it
seeing all these radumb threads makes me question how some of you can even criticize the inherent quality of r/tf2.
because we didn't choose the new paradigm
Have some fun and fuck around before the mods wake up and end it my dude.
How do I use melee to post?
I love how first the controversy was about merging GD and MUS.
Now it's the exact opposite.
Im just perplexed as about what made the mod decide to lock the thread all the sudden
First of all, how the hell do I remove a quote on mobile? I can't figure it out. (I meant to respond but forgot, sorry for the notification comet1337)
Second thing, making threads for individual things will less or more just create safe spaces for circlejerking. But I guess the fence would go lower for posting. So maybe not.
Thirdly, before you start doing all this unnecessary shit, fix Facepunch on mobile, this is almost unusable. Why would the posters names take half of the screen? Currently I'm having problems seeing the text because half of the writing space is on the background. Also thread names are a single letter. Not forgetting the ratings are unusable because theyre squeezed into such a small space.
Can I go back to the old version, please?
Why did so many people get banned?
Garry is mad.
I'm next, so goodbye everyone
Garry changed the layout of the forum a bit (as he does)
People went apeshit because they think facepunch is reddit now (as they do)
Then they got banned for it (as always)
Some people got banned for doing exactly what they've been told, permanently mind you, it's getting pretty pathetic
On actual on-topic news: With the queue change, competitive playernumbers have risen. I'd really love if the tf team could fucking make an announcement that shit is fixed :V
That was under the old system where we wanted to focus everything in one thread. It lead to the forums becoming stagnant.
Yes, I was the one that did that.
We do need to bring it up, because we have new forum software and we should be using it the way it is intended to be used. You have an entire subforum;
https://forum.facepunch.com/f/tf2
It would appear that many of you don't seem to realise that right now. You should look at the front page once in a while!
We want people to spread out and use it properly. This doesn't mean to throw a literal tantrum and spam a bunch of low effort threads like certain people have done. It means imagining that the subforum is now the megathread and each new thread is a topic that would be discussed in the megathread.
Don't start with this nonsense. You weren't told to spam low effort threads. People did that to make a point and were banned as a result.
I didn't know there was brainlet art for TF2.
You are correct that some people have done low-effort shitpost threads out of spite, but to permanently ban for that? I find this very questionable.
It should be obvious that quite literally 99% of the users dislike the changes and do not want each topic to be split into a thread out of the numerous reasons named, such as
Several topics are not worth a thread
The current threads made (Emporium, screenshots etc.) entirely suffice
Just out of convenience. I and several other Users do not want to constantly open and close several threads instead of simply keeping a single thread for most chatter.
Users not really agreeing with the "forums being stagnant" - since I rarely take a look outside the tf2 section, I however can only speak for that section only.
And many more as seen in the meta thread
It's appreciated that TF2 now has it's own section. That however doesn't mean that we suddenly need to split everything up into a thread, it has been done in the past with MUS and separate patch threads, both threads would talk about the same thing, turns out it however was just be a giant hassle for everyone involved.
So, yeah. The arguments are plentiful, I get that the staff wants to use the new forum's possibilities to it's potential but don't fix what isn't broken, especially when clearly everyone is against the change - and not just because it's "change".
Why make Facepunch "Reddit: This time worse and harder to navigate!" though? Part of what makes Facepunch accessible and fun is the ease of being able to follow threads for specific things. General Chats, Megathreads. the ability to just hop right in and immediately follow along with what's been said the past week, month, day, 4 hours, entirely in chronological order, and see people rating and responding to those things and being able to just quickly navigating all of it
Ruining that ruins facepunch. Shame. Guess I won't bother with the games discussion forum anymore because now it's an absolute fucking mess when I visit it, just completely clogged and bogged down with stuff that's gonna get like two views and never get responded to ever again. Dead threads everywhere.
TF2 FP Community in a nutshell.
>Makes dozens of shitpost threads.
>Complains that It's clogged up
????????
People mainly are displeased by the plan of killing megathreads. Creating more threads is fine, killing a long-going tradition which clearly no one is bothered by is not.
So we're not going to be able to have a thread like this?
To be fair, there are at least a few people bothered by megathreads. Most of them seem to be in power, though, so there's not much we can do in that respect.
We don't freaking know. Garry seems to have nothing against megathreads, his plan apparently was just to encourage people to post more threads. Hezzy is the one that got in here and pointed a gun at the thread.
Atleast that is how I understood the situation.
