TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

i miss everybody now.....
We lost around 7 people if i kept track correcly, still its a shame it all had to come to this.
they should also plan to make unbanning 'Coin Fund' option, so we could fund their swift return!
gary really doesn't hold back when he bans people, does he?
The DF hitbox was nerfed beyond 25%. The hitbox size if controlled by tf_fireball_radius. Before it was 30, and 75% of 30 is 22.5, but they rounded it down to 22.
I don't get why the banning was even necessary. A few meme topics that I'm sure took all of 10 minutes to delete (including some that are still up), yet very specific users were banned. Why wasn't the Jill thread deleted and its OP banned? Why the specific bans? It's so silly and unnecessary.
Not a place to discuss bans here.
would you rather we bring the discussion back to the plans to get rid of this very thread as well as Emporium?
I played with Cosmic Afro lol.
I've played with him in Casual and MvM alot, I still have no fucking idea who that guy is.
Not only did I post a new relevant Jill reddit post in that thread I also got Jill to respond to that thread. I think it was a huge success.
so did half of the tf2 subforum just get straight-up perma'd or will they actually be coming back?
we lost some of our most active posters
and ASIC wasn't even one of them
Oh, no doubt it was, but before Jill posted it was just like any of the other threads.
things are messy atm so who the fuck knows
From what I heard from Garry in the old Update thread once someone's perma'd they're gone for good.
so if this new system didn't kill tf2's existence in FP, then gary just lobbed off a good arm and a leg if not more for good measure
I missed the Frog Hunt Event. Hope it was tons of fun!
On topic: I'll see if I'm able to play Competitive this saturday or sunday. Most people will be free around those days, so it should be a nice experience. Maybe assemble a small team, too.
In hindsight, I actually think merging MUS and GC was a smart move (because MUS had basically become GC at that point anyways, even if we all wanted to deny it) on part of the admins.
But killing GC entirely in favor of new threads for every topic just seems silly to me. It's more jumping around different topics for regulars without there actually being more content to justify it. I understand why they have low faith in us, but I really do think they should listen to us on this one and leave GC unscathed.
If MUS can come back under this system- AND WE ACTUALLY USE IT AS INTENDED- I think that'll be great. It should be a proper place for us to Speculate on TF2's future, especially if the TF Team continues in the trajectory they've started with the Blue Moon Update.
Also, our own subforum + more topic creation encouraged is actually a good thing. We could genuinely use more threads here, especially for our individual projects (perhaps creators like FunkE could make their own topics to have all their TF2 content in one place?) relating to TF2. That part I'm actually fine with- as soon as I get some extra time, I do plan on taking the time to make some genuinely helpful content for my Spy Suffering thread.
The bans need to be downgraded, though. It was a very stupid and shitposty act of protest, yes, but a permanent ban for otherwise-contributing members to the TF2 subforum seems a little harsh to me, and I don't think any of us remaining actually want to see any of them remain perma'd. We're small enough as it is.
I was able to actually play two competitive matches tonight. We won the first one (it was a stomp), but on the second one I got terrible lag, even though my internet was completely fine and my displayed ping on the scoreboard and on status was still double-digits but somehow I was the only one having this problem. I accidentally abandoned because I wanted to reconnect to the server and now I have a 6-hour competitive matchmaking ban.
Welp.
enable net_graph 3 and see if you're dropping packets or have high choke
I think net_graph is actually disabled in comp.
Competitive often ends up with the scenario of a single guy simply not connecting.
What's happening there? Competitive throws you in the game itself so you dont need to ready up, doesnt matter if the guy is currently AFK - What prevents them from joining? Or do they really just abandon?
I've heard it's the comp settings restrictions causing crashes.
The quality of the games lately have been a lot more one-sided since the change, even in casual.
Apparently some people can't even connect and are getting the "ad-hoc connections are not allowed" error when they shouldn't. This is resulting in the player being stuck in a loop where the matchmaker is attempting to put them in the match followed by kicking them out afterwards. Here's an example of someone being tormented to such a loop, unfairly getting a matchmaking ban afterwards.

On the bans topic, the members who got permabanned by garry won't probably come back ever, since garry himself has rarely if ever unbanned people who he himself has perma'd (usually exceptions happened on the Refugee Camp, but that's gone now). I do think it was really childrish of them to spam the sub-forum with meaningless threads in order to prove a point, when things could've been talked out in a peaceful, relaxing manner either on this thread or on {{Meta}}, and at the end of the day, what they did indirectly harms the TF2 players who frequent Facepunch (either because of risking losing the TF2 sub-forum itself, or being generalized as manchildren because of the few people who disliked the changes and got perma'd), and it's annoying for moderators since they had to clean the mess. It shouldn't have been permabans, in my opinion, but I'm not garry and Facepunch has a story of handling heavy-handed punishments since forever, even if they're deciding now to make accounts less "expendable" based on what Hezzy said on Oldpunch, and rules are now looser than ever (I'm actually surprised they got banned at all, considering how there's basically no rules set in stone yet).
There's nothing we can do about them (but low-key I want that unban fund idea to happen just to see them back, Dragon Ball-style) and discussing this won't bring them back, sadly, but they should've known better. Let's just move on.
that would explain so much
Just sad that the thread will be 33-50% less active now.
At least it fits into Garry's idea that there has to be only 10% of activity in 5x the threads.
Emporium won't be closed (thankfully), nor will any megathreads thus far because all that happened was a miscommunication where megathreads were supposedly going to be closed, but garry gave megathreads a green light later on, just that people should post more threads to encourage more varied discussion (which is okay in my book).
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
