Yeah, I have noticed that a lot now. It's pretty much a Direct Hit on the hitbox.
JI was a lightning gun. pre-JI and now are flailing.
Kinda pleased with the new matchmaking, though I know i'm late to the party it's putting me mostly against people who understand the intracacies of rocket jumps and advanced strategies such 'deploying ubercharge' which is a huge difference, and I've not even finished my placements. most of my matches have also started and finished without the hitches most are complaining about, though the queue times are pretty long I kind of expected that because I was at DM before. having said that, I've played 4 payload games, which is just awful. people complain literally EVERY time and it almost always gets abandoned because poeple get bored. Actually, to be honest, I find it really weird that we're still in the 'experimental' stage of map choices, but the worst part is probably how the 'experimental' maps are chosen. It makes no sense to me, they seem to choose the worst maps possible for the experiments. We've had universally panned maps stay in rotation for ages, while we lose badlands? The actual most played map in 6s gets cut? Furthermore, we have turbine in for ctf, which just seems stupid to me, you might as well have added junction to test ad. This one is sort of understandable because turbine is a very small map, and being fair turbine is the only CTF map which saw play in actual 6s, except everyone still hated it, but lots of pubbers love it. It's questionable but it makes a bit of sense. But then you have maps in there like swiftwater and it's sort of like why on earth. They picked the hugest most wide open map possible, that, as far as I know, not that many people like even in HL or pubs. As for AD, which has far more potential than PL does for 6s, we have 1 experimental map and it's gorge and I'm just about ready to cry because why is it not gravelpit, which has seen play in 6s and HL, and is kind of a loved pub map? Instead we get gorge for reasons I can't fathom Well, the take away from this is that I'd like to see a map selection tool, once competitive picks up, so I can avoid playing swiftwater ever again
I'm somewhat glad they're ok with nerfing weapons they personally are happy with though, rather than being obstinate and let stuff they don't like (caber) be useless and stuff they do (sniper) barely get touched.
the matter at hand is that pyro as a class needs instant flames to solve all of his problems and to stand up to soldier/demo.
Valve still has no concrete place for Pyro and would rather have Pyro still be a jack of all trades, JI just added items to make Pyro better at one thing, burst damage in the DF, area denial in the Gas Passer, mobility with the Thruster. They might not even really want Pyro to keep up with the generalists. Jill, care to shed some light on how you all at Valve want the flamethrower to work?
I'm taking a guess that it's not as easy as people make it out to be to get the Pyro were they want him to be. At least for the TF2 Dev team that is. That's the impression I'm getting... I feel that he's suppose to be as powerful as he was JI, but require the aim work he current has now. That's what I feel they want him to be like when correctly implemented...
I recorded the flamethrower performance at different ping simulations, this might be the cause of the flamethrower lag, was the post JI flamethrower this ping sensitive before? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/134246/127e4bd7-acf1-48d5-adb0-868757b80204/2018.04.07-21.20.mp4
Honestly I much prefer the 'jack of all trades' approach since I don't see Pyro being at the same threat level as a Demo or Soldier without making him really annoying to fight against. Stuff like the Homewrecker and Detonator I love as it allows the Pyro to do something else that isn't just 'hold M1' or 'point at enemy' Alternative play-styles that allow for unique synergy and strategies with weapons or support with teammates that other classes can't do as effectively or at all.
All you really needed was JI flames, but without the flailing glitch. Not pyro kinda feels like pre JI but with worse particles now.
Surely Pyro main EricS would ensure the flames were in a good spot? I've played with him once or twice, and I think he was always Pyro.
There's no way it was that sensitive before. At 50 ping that's a huge amount of lag for a core weapon, it'd be like if Demo pipes were launched a second after the firing sound played.
It's important to note that this isn't the same kind of ping sensitivity as pre-JI flames, where forward range was actually affected by ping.

curious but what does the hitreg looks like if youre standing but spinning your mouse very very fast i saw a webm in 4chan tf2g where he has a panic button script to make the pyro spin like a fire tornado or something, it completely obliterates everything
That was with broken Jungle inferno flames.
That had to be pre blue moon... With how flames work now he does far less damage now with his flamethrowers... I'm definitely starting to feel it about everytime now lol...
damn there goes my dream of curiosity
Can you gift the Smissmass sweater warpaint to other people? It isn't tradable normally.

I've been recognized by facepunch lurkers as well, makes me wonder if there's a whole army of them out there
Well I get mostly hate either way so...
I kind of feel bad, becouse I used to have Homewrecker equiped at all times, but ever simce Axtinguisher was made awsome (I adore it soo much) I kind of stopped. I even recemtly saw soo many sapped buildings I could have "fixed up" but I was too far away from spawn to eaven run back and change loadouts.
Man, just playing pyro seems to get people really annoyed. I can have a majority of my kills with the detonator/axtinguisher/reflects and ya still get w+m1s in chat, they complain pyro's easy mode so they switch to pyro to counter you and flail about when they get within 20 metres of you, and when that inevitably doesn't work they switch to DH solly and get reflected to death. Meanwhile, the enemy heavies who don't have a weird fascination with me are blissfully unaware as I do my best to not get into fights with them. Funny that.
I barely play pyro and the few times I use it I get a complain in one way or another. If you use a primary, if you use secondary, if you use and don't use a certain melee. You really get anger when you meet that one that takes it personally and feel he is being targeted. Some even tell you what weapon not to use or to not reflect its rockets. It goes beyond ridiculous.
I feel like people have just been spoiled by the insane JI-Pyro that they now think current Pyro is worse of than pre-JI Pyro. He's 100% in a better spot. You can still M1 people if you like and if you track correctly you'll still do some big boi damage, even against competent targets while the new afterburn will ensure that the person you M1'd while also actually die if you do it for two seconds or so. Obviously the two major bugs being that the flame projectiles hitting walls causing the damage to be the min and damage mojo need fixing, though. Dragon's Fury has a much higher skill ceiling now and honestly I don't mind it, I can still double tap scouts with it so really, "git gud".
my only real issue is that you can't toss people into the air with airblast anymore, but other than that i'm still having a ton of fun playing pyro. not sure what people are complaining about
You can, if you aim your airblast to the ground is pops people into the air and it's possible to juggle people against walls; the way momentum affects is is rather fun as well.
Speaking of the momentum things, I mentioned this before but I see very little people make use of it: Use the Jetpack, get off a big cliff, gain speed in the fall and then airblast a chump and see them flying across the map.
I haven’t played in quite a while, are catbots still an issue?
