TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

I would like 'em to implement ctf_turbine _pro.
I feel like that they're keeping ctf_turbine in (as well as PL maps like swiftwater, badwater) because they need some data that they could then use to make changes, that would make those modes fit 6v6 - i've said this before but nobody in right mind will want to play those modes in 6v6 format, so this is forced upon us, but i'm positive that they'll make changes to those modes, based on the data they'll get from all the comp matches played on those maps - and i'm sure they're aware that CTF and PL are poor gamemode choices for 6v6, but they want to change them, instead of completely removing them from comp mode
If valve added something like a experimental comp mode they can put all the things they want to test like maps and weapon balances without messing with the actual comp but I dont know if TF2 could have players split all over the place
This could work, but only if valve mm had enough players playing it, to afford adding a "second, experimental" comp mm, because right now fragmenting the already small (that is 300 players) isn't a right idea imo
Hate me, but I don't mind turbine in Valve mm.
You can almost never experience maps like these in ETF2L enviroment besides Fun Cups, It's always nice to play something that is not badlands and process all the time.
I honestly don't think that CTF is a bad idea for comp, it just needs some changes to correct it's most glaring and stalematey issues, primarily making the flag return on touch and adding a round timer.
once that's done, we can get on the question of how to design a competively-viable CTF map.
atleast have it be landfall not fucking turbine
Your opinion.
Is Turbine even that bad in 6v6?
The problem with it in pubs is a complete lack of teamwork going up against 3+ engies.
There's a reason why ctf_turbine_pro exists and it's not because Fluury doesn't like it.
There's another reason why no one even plays on ctf_turbine_pro anymore.
Turbine is one of the less-enjoyable maps, it being CTF just amplifies that.
Also your opinion.
Are you trying to tell me Turbine, a map with gigantic sniper sightlines, essentially a single way of getting to the objective and 1 effective flank to it is a good map, or even better than landfall?
Turbine is a good meme map for fucking around like hightower. Pure TDM.
Landfall was designed to be decent for actual play and fun pubbing, it should be the definite test map for testing CTF, even though I already have doubt CTF can work.
I'm not trying to tell you that landfall is worse than turbine, I'm trying to tell you that It's only your opinion that landfall is better than turbine.
My opinion is that It's not. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. And I'm glad Valve doesn't remove/change maps just because some guy on facepunch named "fluury" doesn't like the map.
Landfall being better than it in terms of map design is a fact.
So? Doesn't mean everyone enjoys landfall more than turbine.
turb has plenty of cover and there's plenty of room to bullrush snipers.
if the entire 12 enemy players occupies mid then yeah chances are you *might* get killed if you charge outside alone. just like any other map!!!
You said it yourself. Turbine is popular as a casual map, but from a competitive standpoint it is far from good.
Landfall has great open spaces and vertical design, that allows all classes to shine without opening up sightlines. Turbine, in comparison, is a bunch of decorated boxes intertwined with corridors. Guess which one is preferred when picking a map for serious play.
it worries me that the ingame comp mode goal is to have the community 6v6's meta will "grow over time" and develop on its own around competent players much like the mvm's meta did: as a suggestion but never enforcing it, lettng players realise on their own what works and what doesnt, never enforcing a particular class and not putting a class limit since chances are that someone less skilled will instapick your class and rule you out.
specially when the mvm meta works around pve and not around pvp.
An open map with bazillions of entrances and spots to push "last" from is not a great example of a competitive map.
Landfall middle is already a sorry excuse of a competitive map.
given the fact we are in an forum what we say being opinions unless said otherwise should be a given yknow
either way, Turbine is a bad map due to reasons already stated. CTF being a bad gamemode for obvious reasons doesn't make it any better.
The funny thing is that in videos criticizing competitive mode and turbine people always say "haw haw 5 engie comp turbine turtling??" but the way turbine usually goes is a pure rush-down, whoever wins mid keeps the momentum up and just stays at the flag room and locks it down because there is essentially only a single choke of breaching it effectively - that's atleast how I always tell my team to do it and it ends up with essentially ending turbine in seconds
One might consider that "Lmao its like 5cp", difference is that 5cp maps are actually good and allow for tides to be turned while turbine is awful and so is ctf
Then the problem is not the map, It's the class limits.
Can you back this up on more than opinions?
Landfall's flagroom is designed to be flimsy when defended by a single player. Defending the flag is supposed to be a team effort. And on the other hand, Landfall's mid has clear vertical differences, good accessibility, open spaces, cover and good pack placement. Calling it bad seems biased to me.
...Did you read what I said? I said that the 5 engineer thing isnt the problem people for some reason however like to meme on
Turbine is a pretty good deathmatch map, so maybe the developers took that into consideration when selecting it for Competitive, but it's not exactly a map where people try to attempt the objective, nor is CTF in general.
Although it's funny that it was picked over PASS Time, an already forgotten gamemode which was released a little bit more than two years ago even though there was a semi-official tournament of it, or Robot Destruction, the most polished, and arguably the most fun ARTS-like CTF variation that has been left in the backburner, possibly never to be seen again. I wonder if the team's interest with CTF comes from 2fort being a very popular map or similar, or perhaps they want to try their own hand at making their own pro version of ctf_turbine themselves. Considering they've been doing small tweaks on a few maps like Badlands in order to be better for competitive play, the latter seems more probable.
Capture The Flag is probably the oldest gamemode there is, so a few changes to spice it up at its core doesn't seem so bad, it will just take a while for these changes to happen like anything else.
No I won't, I told you, It's my opinion that Turbine is better than landfall. Agree/Disagree It's up to you, my point of all of this is just because some guy on forums doesn't want the map in the rotation, It doesn't mean everyone else wants it gone.
Imagine how many people dropped the game after installing it simply because 3,852 days since release, TF2 still has 70 fov and 54 viewmodel fov by default, which is just unconfortable.
If they made it so Engineers could only get metal from their own dispensers, rather than any dispenser, would it make a tangible difference to Engie stacking's effectiveness?
not that many, I always fail to see the issue with FOV as it is other than "it blocks my entire screen!".
I always find way more jarring seeing floating arms on the middle of someone's screen.

Has this been posted yet here? Extremely informative video, this guy never gets alot of views on YouTube, shame to see that people making videos about hats are getting more views than HiGPS
Hell, even 2fort would be ok if people didn't see ctf as a massive deathmatch map.
Of all the ctf matches that i played in comp there was always a part of the team attacking, a part of the team guarding the intel and a part of the team hanging around for no apparent reason
