I'm guessing they decided to force autobalance, since the amount of people who declined to balance and pushed it to do it automatically after not enough people volunteered was so high that they may as well make it auto from the start. I'm alright with that either way, getting autobalanced is annoying but unbalanced teams can make entire matches pointless to play. I'm not sure how in-depth the system is since I haven't really been paying attention, but I hope it lowers priority for engies on defence, medics with high uber and that kinda thing - that was really annoying with the original autobalance.
Was it possibly "Live and Let Spy" by The Winglet? As for the new update, I think it's hilarious to see old autobalance back. Not that I personally like it, it's just funny to see how Valve just went "fuck it, you can't trust these people to balance games." and full-on brought it back. I've seen people ragequit because of autobalance before, I'm curious how many will ragequit now when it's full-on old school.
Honestly I'd rather have that than the old system. I feel like it's a necessary evil since most players won't switch to the other team anyways.
That's weird, I didn't get the email for the update
I didn't get an email either fwiw. Tried to check the HLDS list just now and it times out, so maybe they're having problems.
The absolute worst part of the end of the line short was that they resorted to the popular fan depiction of Heavy as dumb. That's fine for GMOD tier videos, but it felt so out of place in a short that was trying so hard to emulate Valve's style. Also, the short you're talking about is Live and Let Spy by The Winglet, and it is indeed way better than End of the Line. Most of that that guy puts out is.
I was looking at old patch notes and in 2008 or 9 they made it so autobalance stops if there's a minute or less on the round timer. Might be prudent to add it back.
Just queued for Casual, got couple of kills, got autobalanced, the same second I got "Removed from match by system" and a second after that hl2.exe has stopped working. Well, that's enough TF2 for today then I guess.
Meet your Match ate up two+ years of dev time just getting things back to what they used to be.
Meet your Match may have been a dumpster fire, but casual in its current state is in no way comparable to the garbage that was quickplay.
Doesn't autobalance specifically target good players now? I certainly prefer that to the "whoever dies first switches" system that it was during Quickplay.

the issue being quitters still not adressed.
Yeah, now If you're doing good ( topscoring ) and If someone leaves on the other team and makes the game 10vs12, you're going to get put on the other team like it or not to make it 11v11.
Don't know what you mean, the biggest problem with quitters was the unbalanced teams. That's been addressed. The other part, low server populations, has also pretty well been addressed by tweaks to the matchmaker. I've hardly run into any low population casual servers since blue moon. At this point in casual quitters are more or less a non-issue. In comp, quitters are a much, much bigger problem, and the comp queue times aren't what I would call fast either. I've been seeing around half an hour between games, which is pretty damn long. Could just be a matter of playercounts though.
Unbalanced games are directly caused by rage quitters, Auto-Balance dances around them and punishes the people who are still actively playing the game instead. Auto-balance didn't really help with balancing games before hand, because when it kicked in it either pissed off the people who it punished or the game was already in the act of a steamroll because of the unbalanced teams and swapping the person almost never actually had a big enough impact on the game to counter act against it. The only solution that had an actual impact on games becoming lopsided was game penalties, mostly because the rage quitters kept getting temp banned. So games stayed full for the most part from start to finish. But casual players ain't be having none of that. Instead of maybe adjusting the punishments to be more fairer, they whined till it was removed out right. Take a wild guess what happened when they removed it? Yep, games starting become unbalanced left and right again. I know people want the ability to leave whenever they want, but you have to understand it's a double edge sword. Allowing it will in turn mean games will more frequently become unbalanced. Auto-balance is nothing more then a band-aid fix at best.
So as a funny thing I learned, you can use the Short Circuit's energy ball to destroy grappling hook projectiles and even unhook an enemy if they grapple onto you. So for those that play Engineer on servers with grappling hooks, you know how to do things now.
the short circuit also destroys the birthday ball and the soccer ball. you want to be that party popper? you sure can now.
Leaking from the cesspool that is the cathook users' chatroom: - Time-based exploits are patched (instant decloak, instant cap) - Weapon IDs changed (meaning some cheat features will be temporarily broken, in cathook's case, aimbot) - Server crashing is still a thing - Server lagging is probably still available through other commands (voicemenu 0 0 was used, this command could be replaced) EDIT: confirmed unpatched - You can get matchmaking banned from in-game reporting - They're attempting to use that to get innocents banned by mass-reporting everyone - "tf2 is ded, no fun without instacap" source
It might be more effective if the good players are good sports about it. The best players I see already were switching a lot, just to get more challenge. I still miss the "whoever dies first switches", as that put autobalance into the meta. Playing overly cautiously was a bad part, but the rush to try to kill a top player fast before ricardo.gonzales2003 walks off a cliff, was great. At a minimum the autobalance would neutralize them, but more often than not, you'd have a much better shot at turning the tables if you pulled it off in time. Getting guaranteed ricardo.gonzales2003 would be the ultimate insult to the team getting rolled. I'd rather be down a player and hope for getting a MM refill soon than always get a bottom scorer.

cant we just report this to valve so they can take legal action against the hacking group?
On a similar topic, I got asked that question recently. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238427/2b9a0207-5f0c-4bb7-a3fb-a432c7c1528b/20180513220421_1.jpg
Just ran into a lagger a few hours ago, we kicked him but a few people still timed out :/
So the DDoS Protection isn't fully protective?
Casual is horrible to play. I'm getting autobalanced all over the place. Also I guess It's time to stop playing Sniper in Casual, don't want to get banned by idiots saying I'm hacking all the time. Fuck this update, honestly. Time to move on to Community Servers.
PSA: Be careful when using the AutoSmelt in scrap.tf and if you have weapons that are unique but Festivized (not sure about other attributes, Killstreak weapons seem to not be taken by bots tho). My Festivized Quick-Fix fell victim to it on April 20 ;(. And I just remembered it because I wanted to test festive lights (still working on that visual fix pack)
I don't think it's THAT bad. But I don't also remember it being this aggressive. Getting tossed into the enemy team just to be moved back a bit later. Makes your performance and efforts seem really pointless.
Maybe you could tell @Geel?
Like I've been stating since it was in Quickplay. It was, is and always will be a worthless piece of **** band-aid fix that causes more problems then it fixes. It's ok if pared with a deterent I guess, but when it actively switches you all the time is when people hate it to the point they won't tolerate it any more.
