Some questions about the baked lighting early maps had.
-What differentiates baked lighting and normal map lighting?
-Why did Valve add baked lighting only to the first maps?
-When did it break and why?
what
they're the same
I've heard early maps had special lighting that broke at some point, why modern TF2 looks worse in that comparison video
it looks worse because its crowbcat- he cherrypicks his facts more than a flat earth conspiracy.
because whenever valve had to recompile a map in order to fix issues that could only be fixed in hammer, they were too lazy or forgot or long lost the polished vrad settings to make shadows and prop lighting not look like garbage
I've also heard (think from you Hell-met) that the team uses their own updated version of Hammer, would be nice to get that publicly.
How would you know that Lord Exor has a history of doing that?
You have only been on facepunch for a month.
You joined in 2013, surely you saw Mort Stroodle posting, their first account got banned during the subforum controversy.
fortsooth i say, drop that chat
I'll never stop hoping they give us the option to disable the gradual texture load-in that absolutely butchers first-person viewmodels.
I assume it's coded in a way that the TF2 Team can't just give us an advanced options setting or console command to turn it off?
Beforehand, I hardly had any major stuttering in the first minute of joining a server, and it still occasionally happense nowadays, so for me, the texture-loading 'performance improvements' have done almost jack shit, apart from downgrading the look of the game, even when maxed out, considerably.
Combine the worse map lighting, less detailed and worse-shaded c-models, the much heavier LOD drops on players on objects, and the blurry texture streaming, and the game does indeed look worse than it did back in 2007-2008, a decade ago.
Yes, I know, bloated code, many updates, many different team members etc. But Valve should've probably realized many years ago, when TF2 was less of an afterthought for them as a company, that an engine and code that had such degrading performance that a 10-year old game couldn't run perfectly on machines many times more powerful than the ones that were around when the game shipped, was not a good idea for a long-term game-as-a-service.
Wait, so it's no longer ban-able to make alt accounts?
If they haven't been banned yet, why would it matter?
Also did you really not see their name or something?
(also just so we're clear the new "banned for any foible or slip-up" policy isn't great, just like every other zero-tolerance policy ever)
What are you referring to?
Bans have always been handed out for any sort of infraction.
I really don't know why you want to continue this discussion (other than your constant need to question everything everybody says) but I'm fairly certain there wasn't a mass banning on oldpunch because of a few joke topics.
is the iron bomber really a good upgrade for the stock or its just all placebos
iirc projectile physics mean that it may actually fly slightly farther + the ability to actually control your rollers essentially allows a lite, temporary sticky trap, which you can't really do with rollers on normal pipes
There have been mass permabans on oldpunch. Like idiot cull threads, where if you posted anything in it you were banned.
I do not question everything.
bitch i am not loading up tf2 at 5 am to check a minor detail in a facepunch post
also this is your official "ASIC Don't Talk To Me" notice. expect no further acknowledgement of your existence after this point, regardless of what you say or do.
I can't be the only person who thinks the iron bomber is imbalanced as anything right
those placed rollers are so much better than the regular nade launcher it's not even funny, u can lock down chokes with it, in place of regular nades that you can usually just walk through, avoid directs and they roll past you, the bomber nades stay directly in the middle and explode faster which is almost always better. Also the fact they stay on the spot means if you eat a direct from spam, a grenade will probably then explode under you which auto kills light classes, which almost never happens with the regular nades, huge upside.
The most ridiculous upside is the fact that in close quarters in buildings or whatever, you can aim at peoples feet (which you should do anyway because you want to pop people up) and guarantee yourself a useful roller that forces your enemies into a certain movement arc, as opposed to nades which rarely do what you want. This is really useful against scouts who will often take roller damage from these stupid things cause you can one pipe them.
downside- unable to use some fringe safe spam angles and missing 20 hmu in splash (wow!) which you can barely even consider a downside because at least the explosion will be where you want it, the coverage is almost undoubtedly better
it looks like it makes no difference but it actually has such key impact moments that you just do not get with the nade launcher without getting lucky, and just by equipping it you give yourself an advantage, I hate this weapon because the firing noise just sounds horrid to me, but it's so much better I feel I should equip it anyway
facepunch could really use a block function for people that appear to cant resists the urge to respond to people they obviously dislike
on-topic: You think we'll get our summer update on-time(tm) this year?
ya you aren't the only person

Nice video by sigsegv about the differences between the launchers.
It's not better than stock though, don't unerestimate the fact that stock pipes can bounce off the walls. If Iron Bomber balls bounced off walls, then It would really be better than stock.
But now Stock is alot more spammable while Iron Bomber requires pipe aim.
everything you said has already been covered and countered.
you just sound like you're panicking over the thought of having something you really like being changed.
There are indeed lots of visual issues in the game. If you would check the files, you could see that Valve just doesn't give a flip about the visuals and just tries to throw something up so it exists.
Interestingly Toofty recently did a video on it and found in his( admittedly unscientific) tests that he did more damage with the Iron Bomber:

I certainly find it a little bit easier to hit people with the Iron Bomber than stock due to the way their projectiles work.
I doubt the Bomber will be nerfed as it's used in competitive.
They should buff stock instead, maybe make rollers explode on contact again or something
I use stock more than iron bomber
