TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

I feel like the difference between Iron Bomber and Stock is so subtle you can play fine with both weapons if you use one of them
They should not buff or nerf either, both are good enough as they are lmao.
I think it'd be okay if projectile speed was reduced. Maybe give it reduced self-damage (for the enemies who run in your face) in response.
yea better punish players who do the right thing against demomen. Not to mention ~60 self dmg is low enough without needing any extra reduction.
It's not like it's easy to hit pipes at point-blank range. The change would simply make it less dangerous if you succeeded. Scouts hit 102 point-blank, so that's ~160 health you don't have anymore if you managed to hit the Scout with just one pipe. I think less range is a suitable downside for that.
Demoman is an extremely powerful class already, we should keep the very close range weakness he has.
I think the Iron Bomber is the most marginal upgrade that currently exists in the game.
I guess thats a problem but its not like Demoman is dominating the meta or anything. I've never heard anyone go
"wow the iron bomber is bullshit" like you do with the other cases of OP weapons.
pipes got the same issue as sniper rifles in that its a bit difficult making it diffirenct without changing it too much from its purpose.
Every time I come back and play a bit of tf2 I remember that random crits and broken melee hitreg exists and then I remember why I stop playing every few weeks
Hum... Everyone likes to post about weapons they dislike, but I would be interested in knowing what people feel are good weapons that have been introduced into the game. Mostly weapons that are very simular like the Tomislav vs Stock or the Iron Bomber vs Stock situations. But feel free to include upgrades that completely different from their stock counter parts as well ( Shotgun vs Gunboats for instance ).
Personal opinion.
Demoman is the most balanced classed in game.
Valve pls don't touch.
Direct Hit is a fun, fair and useful sidegrade to the normal Rocket Launcher. The Panic Attack is another fun and useful sidegrade to the normal Shotgun while still feeling unique; Then there is the Dragon's Fury which DOES need a tiny buff but apart from that is a fantasticly balanced sidegrade to the normal flamethrower - detonator as a sidegrade to the flare gun, Quickie to Stock etc.
dont have to look far
You're right about everything other than the Direct Hit.
As someone who has played Soldier since 2010 and has 1.6k hours on Soldier, I have no fucking idea how to use Direct Hit.
I mean, I'm fine aiming it, but sometimes I miss all 4 rockets and embarass myself.
Stock is fine, Iron is just problematic and buffing stock is just going to lead to unnecessary power creep.
we all have our bias but just because heavies get destroyed by it doesnt mean it doesnt have balanced downsides
Bad players are useless with DH. Good players are good with it. That doesn't make the DH unfair. Good players can make a rocket jumper viable in the right scenario.
They should increase the stock's loaded ammo to 6 instead of 4!
/s
Soldier is already more than capable of handling Heavies, he doesn't need a weapon that makes the job easier.
heavies need an overall damage resistance. something that can genuinely ake him work outside of a walking turret.
Must be fun fighting an overhealed heavy with a medic and dealing 40 damage rockets to him then. Sure.
I think the most important questions to ask when you're talking about if a weapon is overpowered or not are the following, in this order:
Does this weapon change fundamental class interactions?
If yes, is this a positive or negative change for that interaction?
Is the trade-off for that change fair and reasonable?
Does this weapon invalidate its stock counterpart?
I consider the questions to be in order of importance. Namely, if a weapon fails to change fundamental class interactions, I don't really consider it to be overpowered.
Crossbow and Ubersaw on Medic both fall into this category. Those weapons may invalidate their stock counterparts, but they don't change Medic's place in the meta to any reasonable degree, and in the case of the Ubersaw, actually add more interesting interactions between the Medic and the players out to kill them. Crossbow may also be easily the best Medic primary, but it also trades off a lot of self-defense utility for a boost in healing utility, so imo Crossbow only really fails the last question.
Iron Bomber...doesn't really tick any of these boxes. It changes nothing about fundamental class interactions, since it mostly functions identically to the stock Grenade Launcher. It's lite trapping ability is notable, but truthfully not a very strong or versatile tool when compared to Demo's actual trap weapons. A Demo using Iron Bomber with traps is not going to be anywhere near as effective as a Demo using a sticky launcher for the same purpose.
The Iron Bomber's projectiles shoot ever-so-slightly farther and its rollers are designed for strategic use rather than plain old spam. Maybe that makes it better than the Grenade Launcher, but imo not to any degree that actually hurts class balance. I still know Demomen- good Demomen- who prefer the stock Grenade Launcher as well.
If we do that, then we should pay respects to The Hibernating Bear
Make it "+5% overall damage resistance."

if you're dumb enough to jump into a 2v1 fight agaisnt a heavy its your own fault. damage resistances or not.
besides I'm talking about something akin to 10%. it shines more when paired with other resistances, but still is enough to allow him to outlive head on engagements.

The Family Mann
Heavy does not need damage resistance.
if I ever get killed by that I will actually uninstall
Competitive weapons get nerfed all the time.
What makes a weapon competitive or not is whether it outshines it's alternatives AND is also not deemed by the leagues to be banworthy (i.e. Not bugged or game-breaking)
It's not just heavies really it's the fact you can oneshot any 125 HP class and it's actually not even that hard to use.
It's that Valve is probably focusing on the remaining banned weapons for balancing, plus does anyone really complain about the Iron Bomber?
I use stock because the Coffin Nail skin for it is fantastic
