What if we gave the Spy a revolver that's really good in combat, but can not cloak until he switches to his knife?
He would quickswitch to his knife and cloak anyway.
A crit Brass Beast bullet does ~32 damage, if it manages to hit anything. Not that giant man should be trying to get long distance kills, but it happens. I once killed a sniper on 2Fort with the Brass using cap crits. I taunted (because I was contractually obligated to at that point.) For my efforts said sniper called my sexuality and ethnic heritage into question in text chat.
I'd like the amby to be reverted or buffed remaining (accuracy dependent) to make more spies run it again. It was great being able to play against a lot of spies like they didn't have a primary, because the vast majority that ran it was awful at it. Now a lot of those spies are running diamond back so they get easy 102 with no falloff also. I'd bet more players are dying to spy revolvers than before the nerf. It certainly wasn't a problem in 6s, dunno about HL.
Either way I'd keep running stock for the higher dps, when using it in close combat, as while I have the aim for it, it's not worth it unless you are using it at distance where stock is ineffective.

Apply the FoS switch speed/holster penalty into the weapon? I think my idea is kinda dumb, to be honest. If we gave Spy the ability to deal a considerable quantity of burst damage, isn't he a light version of the Scout?
CSGO just got an update with this addition
– Added a map place-able entity (vgui_world_text_panel) that allows mappers to put floating, localizable text in their map without needing custom res files.
Hope this gets added to TF2. (or is this already in game? based off the text in training mode, coaching, and in titanium tank map waterfront)

Heavy players are always my favorite to kritz in pubs because they become snipers.
the fun fact is that sniping people from mars is not what made the amby op. it was being able to dish 102's on demand at close range at such a steady rate it rendered stabing people moot.
pair that with the deadringer and you get a sneaky motherfucker that could negate any damage that you threw at it.
if spy mains are so desesperatedly wanting to revert the nerf and bring back the old amby, enforce spy to actually aim down the sights to get headshots, just like sniper does. you know, let the weapon have an actual downside.
What if for the Ambassador, you held left mouse button to steady the gun and move slower (revved up Heavy speed? Scoped in Sniper speed may be too slow), and you fired when letting go of the button? Spamming left click to fire would be inaccurate, with it becoming perfectly accurate after a certain time steadied. Maybe then it could do 102 damage headshots at any distance
edit: the accuracy would constantly increase when steadying, so you could fire quicker shots at mid/close reange, but you'll have to expose yourself to do accurate long range shots (also fixed spelling of distance)
That's literally why Panic Attack was reworked and would be clunky as fuck.
I find Snipers to be the most enjoyable classes to kritz in pubs. They either become terrifying 150-bodyshot machines or live their CS wet dream for a while before being ran over by a Pyro. The question of whether a good sniper needs kritz is nullified by the fact that you made jorge_borge3300 credit to team, even if for a couple of seconds.
Playing Sniper and playing Amby Spy do not feel anything alike. One allows free movement, the other doesn't. One offers a scope for easier aiming, the other doesn't. Sniper does not provide anything close to the experience that I'm missing from Ambassador Spy.
Well now you sound like you're playing the wrong game altogether. Remember that Walkabout was scrapped due to making Sniper play too similar to Counter Strike.
Don't summon ASIC again.
Speak of me, and I shall appear.
Also random crits are relevant to weapon balance, especially in the case of melee weapons.
the fun fact is that sniping people from mars is not what made the amby op. it was being able to dish 102's on demand at close range at such a steady rate it rendered stabing people moot.
stabbing, and no, it didn't. 102 damage is not a substitute for a one-shot kill, and if you're using Amby to fight someone at close range you're using it wrong, Revolver is better and significantly, significantly easier for that purpose.
pair that with the deadringer and you get a sneaky motherfucker that could negate any damage that you threw at it.
and the dead ringer is pretty handily nerfed now. unless you think it's actually overpowered in its current state, this point is moot.

dude...I literally opened this topic explaining that the Amby wasn't fun anymore and part of what made it fun was its scopeless design vs Sniper Rifles. way to make Ambysniping easier and ruin the core appeal of the weapon.
That data point will be meaningless when the TF2 Team finally purges the game of random crits for good.
I don't think that will happen.
If. If they do it. I want it just as badly as you do, but No-Crits has been the prominent voice in the debate for more than a few years now and it still hasn't changed.
Right now, the data point does matter, because Spy doesn't really benefit much from random crits while classes like Demoman, Soldier, Pyro, Medic and Heavy do.
People who dislike random crits are the prominent voice, because they are complaining. The thing is that they are not really the majority. A lot of people do like random crits.
Medic doesn't benefit from random crits, outside of melee or maybe the crossbow. People aren't really that good with the syringe gun.
ASIC I swear to God if you don't stop talking about random crits
ASIC I swear to God if you don't stop talking about random crits
God is dead, and random crits have killed him.
Revolver is better and significantly, significantly easier for that purpose.
I still need more info on this.
not only amby has tighter spread but landing one bullet should be easier than two separate bullets, no?
cause CQC one amby bullet is still nearly 2x revolver dmg which is nothing to laugh at

two revolver shots at center-of-mass on a moving target is easier than 1 amby headshot on a smaller head target
once you fire off the first shot (and if you continue firing at the same target), the rest of revolver aim is pretty much just tracking. you can't really do that with the ambassador, it's way more difficult to keep your crosshair on the head at all times. easier to re-adjust during the headshot cooldown.
try it yourself if you don't believe me.
without going into too much detail, check out the titanium tank tour if you've kept a mostly blind eye to custom MvM (I don't blame you, mostly) or been starved for MvM content since two cities.
really impressive stuff.
here's a thought I had, if I plucked a TF2 player from 2008 and plopped him exactly ten years later into a game now, what would you think he'd say?
like hat memes artstyle jokes aside, what would his thoughts be on balance and the way TF2 has been handled, without seeing it develop naturally, just 2008 right to right now in an instant.

Wtf Valve why can't Engineer build in skyboxes anymore

My first thought would be "Hey, what happened to Robin Walker?".
Back then he was pretty prominent, at least as known as icefrog is to dota.

Look at FP users posting about TF2 outside of the subforum, a lot of them haven't touched the game in years. The general sentiment is there's too much shit. Of course if you actually follow the game you know everything is still kinda simple under the surface, but before arriving at that revelation you have to get smacked by a lot of fish and jetpacking hot hand pyros first.

First major things they'd notice would be core class buffs.
Scout is literally the same.
Pyro flames match visuals and afterburn requires more than a lick for full effect. Airblast?! Fire dampens the strength of healing effects.
Soldier is more or less the same circa 2008. They'll be happy to spawn with 20 reserve rockets instead of 16.
Demoman winbombing requires more accuracy and the damage formula for stickybombs overall was changed on its head entirely to be less effective.
Holy crap Heavy can rev up in less than a second!!@#$ They probably won't notice the damage/accuracy ramp unless someone told them, though.
Engineer can move gear up! Level 2 and 3 dispensers/teleporters?! I can unsap and repair both ends of my teleporter at once?! I upgrade at 50 metal a swing during setup?
Medic has higher passive heal rate. Spreading uber between teammates drains ubercharge faster.
Sniper is literally the same.
Spy cloak recharges with ammo pickups and overall recharges faster. Spy cloak grants a damage reduction for reasons? Backstabs connect instantly instead of with finicky delayed melee swings. Spy disguises are more realistic and tell you who you're disguised as. Can take enemy teleporters. Run faster than Medics
These are the core class changes that stick out in the past 10 years, aside from bugfixes. I'd think someone who came here from 10 years ago would appreciate the changes done to the class interactions. Although that opinion may sour when you start diving into the alternate weapons but that's another question.

Downtown is a fucking nightmare. Took me and a few friends an hour and then some to get through it last night, and 20-30 minutes were on wave 3 alone.
If you value your sanity, do downtown first and get it out of the way, makes the other missions less stressful.
Scout is literally the same.
Can't bind attack to mwheeldown anymore to empty pistol clip in a blink :v:
I was loading the titanium tank map waterfront and I had an idea from the mvm loading screen, since the casual and comp menus are gone there is no way to see the comp menu backgrounds in game, how about adding the comp backgrounds to the loading screen for comp mode?
I don't know how prominent such things were in 2008, but Sniper is not the same. Quickscoping now takes just a bit longer to get a headshot and snipers can't jump immediately after firing. Both changes affect the Sniper v. Sniper meta and are all but irrelevant to the rest of us.
