here's a thought I had, if I plucked a TF2 player from 2008 and plopped him exactly ten years later into a game now, what would you think he'd say? like hat memes artstyle jokes aside, what would his thoughts be on balance and the way TF2 has been handled, without seeing it develop naturally, just 2008 right to right now in an instant.
Something something furry pyro copypasta.
Engineer can move gear up! Level 2 and 3 dispensers/teleporters?! I can unsap and repair both ends of my teleporter at once?! I upgrade at 50 metal a swing during setup?
Let's not also forget that building teleporters costs a fraction of what it used to. 125 metal to a mere 50

There's a few weapons that would be a huge change. The thermal thruster, all the demo-knight stuff, the DR, The Rescue Ranger. There's also so many more maps and game modes now than in 2007/2008.
Look at FP users posting about TF2 outside of the subforum, a lot of them haven't touched the game in years. The general sentiment is there's too much shit. Of course if you actually follow the game you know everything is still kinda simple under the surface, but before arriving at that revelation you have to get smacked by a lot of fish and jetpacking hot hand pyros first.
There aren't many games like TF2 out there, games which are a decade old, still played, and still supported by the developer. But when these type of games come up, the same arguments and the same sentences pop up just like with TF2: "It died for me with the XY Update." - "It isn't the same as years ago." etc. Rather than admitting that the player simply burned out on the game, which is something that happens to almost everyone, they rather blame the game or the developers. The Updates that "ruined" TF2" are rather a good indicator of when said person burned out and moves on. It's called Nostalgia glasses, causing a person to be way more biased, which is why I often raise an eyebrow when reading stuff like that. It's the same folk of people that say "TF2 is dead" or "this is gonna be the last update for TF2, I know it" - people have been saying this for years, and will continue to say so, because its always the game that got bad; Not the player simply getting burned out. The only part I agree with is the TF Team fucking over community servers, which was awful for the game, it's community, and everything attached to it.
What should the TF Team do to bring back community servers? I agree with most of you that they were the perfect growth platforms for both skill and social bonds with other players.
Make eligible servers available for quickplay queues. This would mean removing the one round limit from casual qp games, which I am more than fine with.
Also I was checking a demo today and... [t]https://i.imgur.com/07CIIIW.jpg[/t] Since when is the spectate menu like that?
I think it may have to do with tournament hud in spectator at advanced options, maybe as i havent actualy seen any diffirence between tournament hud and normal.
I think it may have to do with tournament hud in spectator at advanced options, maybe as i havent actualy seen any diffirence between tournament hud and normal.
And it's so weird, Comp has a different HUD than tournaments.
I have tournament hud on since ever so i havent seen how the non tournament hud is,to solve this confusion we need to find information from a reliable first hand source. Hey jill does anyone on the TF team remember about the tournament mode hud?
Pyro vs pyro still remains the most annoying matchup in the game.

i wonder why the spy got the ambassador in the first place i always thought the stock revolver is a solid gun for him
Does anyone here have any experience with the backpack.tf premium search? Is it worth paying for?
i wonder why the spy got the ambassador in the first place i always thought the stock revolver is a solid gun for him
It was a time when valve was implementing weapons that I'm sure they had as ideas before even releasing tf2 and decided to make them unlocks. All the original class update weapons seem as either attempts to make classes function a bit more funly or with more active mechanics, as with the medic update and the ubersaw or as pre beta concepts for weapons like the buff banner, which was an idea during the Invasion part of TF2 development. I couldn't tell you which came first, the idea or the want for a gun spy, but I suppose they felt like it fit with spy. Same reason for the hunstman, did they plan it earlier or did they, after a year of looking at tf2 metrics and player response, want a different play style for sniper.
Does anyone here have any experience with the backpack.tf premium search? Is it worth paying for?
Are you a for profit trader driven by greed? Are you a sociopath looking to shark unsuspecting TF2 players who just unboxed a god tier unusual? Are you an obsessive nutter who really likes to collect really rare hat/effect/spell/level/whatever combos? Then once a day backpack.tf premium might be right for you!
Pyro vs pyro still remains the most annoying matchup in the game.
This is the main reason why it's so hard to give up Pyro's shotgun for any other secondary.

On a unrelated note, does anyone know how quickly it will find stuff after it exists?
Yes. On a unrelated note, does anyone know how quickly it will find stuff after it exists?
Fun fact, it doesn't. All the items it shows you don't even exist. We just make it up.
What is the prejungleinferno_demos beta in the properties? Is it for demos recorded before the jungle inferno update or what?
MyM also added some good administrator lines, though the post game ones sound strange as they're her talking directly, not through speakers. "None of you! I'm speechless. Oh wait, here's one: 'Four score and seven years ago, you were awful. Leading up to just now, when nothing at all has changed. God bless the Badlands. Thank you and good night.'" [editline]9th February 2018[/editline]
What is the prejungleinferno_demos beta in the properties? Is it for demos recorded before the jungle inferno update or what?
Yeah pre-JI demos are broken when played in the regular game.
Sniper is literally the same.
no super duper quick headshots, nowadays, though. not that it matters too much. only like, 1 in 20 headshots do I land for nothing to happen
Downtown is a fucking nightmare. Took me and a few friends an hour and then some to get through it last night, and 20-30 minutes were on wave 3 alone. If you value your sanity, do downtown first and get it out of the way, makes the other missions less stressful.
recap B and C or have a talented pyro. or both! or none! experiment on your own! that's the magic of MvM. (for what it's worth, that was my last one as well, but I think they're all balanced fairly well and any number of them could have been the "last one to do.")
I tried using the Air Strike in MvM yesterday, good lord it really is an air strike with upgrades.
The only part I agree with is the TF Team fucking over community servers, which was awful for the game, it's community, and everything attached to it.
Community servers got the axe because they were dangerous. In that sense it was more of the community ruining them for themselves.

Give amby reverse falloff, 102 at 2500-ish hu's so it doesn't slaughter scouts and pyros while still being able to pick off those pesky rocket wranglin' Engineers which was its intention.
Community servers got the axe because they were dangerous. In that sense it was more of the community ruining them for themselves.
It's true that Servers like Saigns and the like using Pinion were what drove the TF Team to the decision, but what did the vanilla Community Servers have to do with that? Nothing. They just got ran over because of the greed of some dweebs. There are alternatives to dealing with this problem, but these would require effort.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/VoNUtSz.jpg[/t] Heavy should get the Ambassador. He'll have to use it as a melee weapon because his giant fingers won't fit through the tiny baby trigger guard. Give it some fun stats: +25% damage to spies and +100% damage to snipers (because any Camping Long Shoot Man who manages to get melee killed by Heavy deserves to die immediately.) Downside: Only deals damage to spies until Heavy kills a spy first. Is perfectly balanced! Of course this will require a new pistol whip animation. I'm willing to bribe Paysus into making one.
