TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V6 - Year of the Guard Dog SURVEY IN OP

A huge bug (this is the cause of most "blood splatter but not damage" issues) might be fixed at some point. Eric Smith responded to my email: [t]https://files.catbox.moe/z3k1do.png[/t]
What I find interesting it's not "I'll forward your email.", but "I'll forward your email to the appropriate people."

That sounds like he's saying the exact same thing in slightly different words.

A whole $4.27? No thanks

Maybe, or maybe not. We can't really know. I have sent several different emails of different issues to Eric, I find this a good sign that he responded.

Fix update coming soon:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/80o4tg/stop_teasing/dux3o3i/
So there's something slightly weird/alarming I just realized in the wake of key prices starting to drop:
Standard crate/munition drops were made more uncommon some time back, and as of late it they seem to have stopped dropping at their usual rate. Really, it seems like they have almost ceased dropping.
I have Backpack.tf Premium and I checked it out: virtually every single #103 crate (might have missed a couple that were traded) spanning nearly 265 pages - almost 4000 crates - have "gifted by" tags and "Gifted" origins which meant that they were dropped via Pallet of Crates items - probably lots of people using them at the start of Jungle Inferno and the Halloween/Christmas updates hoping to capitalize on the case drops. However, I saw zero crates without either of these; a Giftapult one will have its original origin (usually Timed Drop). The results in backpack.tf's Premium Search are sorted by most recent "modified by" dates. Spanning 265~ pages and nearly 4000 crates, not a single non-traded non-gifted one exists.
The very beginning of crate drops with gifted tags begins on the date of Jungle Inferno's release, and the latest crate without one (with an item ID of 6252870193) seems to have dropped sometime around October 25, 2017 (Thanks TF2Tools for having a date estimation tool for item IDs!). This seems to mean that Valve silently retired Mann Co. Supply Munition #103 sometime around then, at least through traditional drops.

I've noticed the lack of new crates as well and it alarms me...
Most of the items you could get in a crate (Strange Parts, Paints) you just get as random bonus items in cases.
War paints make a majority of weapons never need another strange re-release and the only items that do need a re-release are old Stranges from the salvaged/reserve crates, weapons without strange variants, and Strangifiers for the Grordbort weapons and the promo weapons.
I really hope we start getting new crates again but chances are we just get a Reserve....
there should be a damage absorbed/avoided strange part for strange items that give you resistances/invincibility (bonk, vaccinator, targe, etc.)

I personally would like a Strange Part for Environmental Kills and Environmental Deaths.

Is there a bug in TF2 regarding decloaking? I've noticed it before, but I've been noticing more as of late. I hit decloak, my spy clearly makes the decloak sound, I run in to sap or stab and then noticed I'm still invisible...
Finding spy, as long as you can get stabs makes defense contracts on killing people on objective fairly easy as they instant die. So been playing a lot of spy as of late.

use viewmodels
use viewmodels
I have viewmodels enabled and I get the issue on occasion as well. I think the issue might be that the server isn't getting sent the client update of attempting to decloak, but the sfx still plays clientside because of clientside prediction as is normal. Can't say for certain where the hiccup is coming from whether the client isn't sending the data all the time or if the server failed to receive it (or did receive it and dropped it).
use viewmodels
If you mean don't use invisible view models I don't. The use the default mini viewmodels specifically.
I also have been getting another bug where near the start I'll be stuck in place while other people are running around. I can freely look, I just can't move with WASD.

If you're referring to the freeze they introduced in casual mode, you can move if you switch weapons.

freezing in place means your connection is being lost
as for the decloak thing, rocketlaunchers do that sort of thing too rarely when you click mouse1 during a reload and it does nothing except interrupt it. just a lag thing i imagine

It does it when the matches start as well... I see teammates freely doing whatever around me, medics healing patients and swapping them, people running in and out of the spawn firing shots, and here I am stuck able to do everything except move around with WASD. It always goes away after X amount of seconds, but it is rather annoying.
On a side note, I'm only 1 bonus away from completing my contracts. Just need one more defensive kill on Mossrock and I'm done.
I will also note that spy and phlog pyro got me most of these relatively fast... I think it's because their very quick kills if you can get them. Doesn't give the enemy enough time to move off of the objective...

Switch weapons to bypass the Casual freeze. This can also happen because of the ConTracker. Switch weapons to fix that.

No, even I've had the same thing recently and couldn't figure out why. Looking into the console indicates that all my keys for movement have spontaneously unbound themselves, because I see errors like "Key not bound: -mleft" or things like that. executing clear scripts and redoing the script whose class I'm playing resets this. I haven't touched those class-specific scripts in years, so they can't be the problem, something's changed in the game itself.
I found it often happens when I'm keeping the movement key depressed while also clicking through the server message shit. I would also spontaneously get issues where I'd just keep moving forward or keep attacking until I manually put in -forward or -attack to stop the behaviour.
Another problem I've found is that one of my mouse binds ceased to work properly. My personal setup was to have one mouse button (one of the side ones on my five button mouse) immediately pull out the melee and start attacking and on release, switch to the last weapon used. My primary and secondary is also set up this way and they appear to be working using the same script just fine, but the melee doesn't. It used to, but sometime last year it just died. I initially thought it was just my mouse button dying, but even after using a new button, it continues to not work. It's infuriating because I can't run homewrecker pybro anymore without redoing my binds. :frown:
Interesting combo:
Dragon's Fury double tap + Panic Attack to essentially instantly kill light classes.
With the Dragon's Fury, missing your shots is a death sentence against classes like the Scout, and even when hitting a Scout twice with the DF the afterburn will take a bit to kill them, leaving the Scout several shots to kill you if you miss your third shot.
Panic Attack to the rescue! Not only does it's quick switch-speed allow you to essentially instantly deal damage after switching to it BUT it's huge spread makes it very hard to not hit the Scout!
While it at the distance you'll be fighting your scout won't be dealing a lot of damage (10-20) it'll be MORE than enough to instantly kill the Scout after double tapping him with the DF!
I recommend it, it works like a charm, might wanna get a strange panic attack because of that.

Or you could use the easy mode scorch shot + dragon's fury, and have people easily take full duration afterburn for you to negate the fire rate downside of the dragon's fury for free while you take your shots.
That, and the afterburn will probably be enough to have the second shot kill the light class.
Finally got this sucker done...

Now I can play my usual set of maps again lol. Still have 4,000 blood money... But I don't really want anything out of the "gift shop"... Is there anything decent in that thing?

You could check what currently costs the most on SCM and spend all blood money on it to resell on SCM

Scorch Shot requires setup and is easy to miss if you try to do it after the double tap.
That, and as I mentioned in the post, I know the Afterburn will finish them off. It's the time it take's for them to die that is problematic; The Panic Attack optimizes the combo to the point where there is essentially no time delay between double tap and death, so no scout mains can kill you before they die.
