Keys aren't even valued for their use for unlocking crates, they're valued for their state as a currency.
It makes the sound of a dribbled basketball and has a spherical projectile.
It doesn't bounce and rolls less than the cylindrical pill.
Videogames have difficulty curves, you are expected to get better at them the more experienced you play with them. a lack of a diffficulty curve means a game fails to engage you into playing it, or even replay it. so yeah, people tends to play videogames at get better at them(and therefore quit them if they failt to get better at them). and on top of that, you can conciously set yourself to improve your performance in a specific game as a part of your enjoyment in said game.
in the context of TF2 and based on your entire argument about crits (or i must say, the actual lack of) is basically to say crits are fine "because you said so".
"why would you imply my argument is ad hominem?"
because despite countless times arguing with actual hard data AND ad hominem experience based on several people who also play the game on the same level and under the same motivations as you you refuse to even acknowledge said counterarguments purely because it doesnt match your view on the impact of crits.
"why would you imply these people play under the same motivations as me"
because said people also play the game for entertainment and enjoy it based it on that.
Please stop, no one is going to convince ASIC that random crits should be removed from the game and ASIC isn't going to convince anyone that they should stay in the game.
I'm so disgusted right now, because I played Phlogistinator + Scorch Shot Pyro.
This is perhaps *the* most braindead way to play a competitive shooter I've ever seen. I can't
Probably cuz it's only a real issue when the majority of your team doesn't know how to handle it. Even worse if they have a dedicated pocket med.
At the moment it's a pretty easy way to crush a low skilled team singlehandedly.
It's rather disgusting since there's nothing you can do to stop your team from feeding the Mmmph, and inevitably losing 2 - 4 teammates because they got brushed by two crit particles.
I use the Scorch Shot with the Dragon's Fury. It's a very powerful combo that can delete groups in seconds if it works (and it does).
Scorch Shot is imo broken design that is too forgiving and does too much.
Enforcer used to work like this. The problem was you could bind a key to cancel disguise instantly at any point.
How does the example definition of depth mean that a RNG has more depth than chess? Does it make this definition bad, and if so then why?
How do you know the decision process is why people enjoy or play the game?
Why do all those options that you mentioned that scout has, suddenly vanish when random crits are their?
Random Crits alters the player's control over the situation, it doesn't remove all of it.
2 examples: The chance of them happening increases when you have dealt more damage recently. Critical projectiles are more noticeable.
Does lack of control necessarily make something non-fun?
Saying "The encounter is no longer fun because the encounter no longer exists." is a bit weird.
Is it saying that things ending ruins the fun? Does this mean that fast paced games are bad? Does it mean that you shouldn't do anything fun, because it must eventually end?
How do you know that random crits necessarily prevent people from having fun? A significant portion of players seem to enjoy them. Here is an example poll:

What makes random crits special among the various ways that people can die undeservedly or unexpectedly?
I am fairly certain that getting kills isn't the main point of TF2, except in arena mode.
So how is my opinion wrong, factually misinformed, or based off of a lack of understanding of the subject matter?
can you please stop?
like...I'm becoming convinced you're actually trolling. even if this belief of yours that random crits are good is genuine, your repeated insistence to get into hours-long debates about them is fucking maddening. you give no ground. nobody else gives ground. this has happened time and time and time again, yet you keep sounding off with your stupid opinion about random crits, and at this point I can only be led to believe that you are doing so because you know it agitates people into responding to you.
fuck off to Steam Discussions or Reddit if you want to obstinately refuse to take any input or any other viewpoint into consideration. no one here agrees with you about random crits, nobody here is going to, and I, at least, am sick of seeing you fill up the thread with this nonsense.
every other seemingly random death can still be traced to something that someone did at some point
random crits are based on nothing more than RNG chance and there is nothing anyone can do to prevent it from happening
An easy way to counter phlogs is to go Demoman/Soldier (preferably with a Medic) and spam them out. They can't reflect so the most obvious choice for them is to retreat or suicide. If the other team can't figure this out and focus you down, they're likely pub potatoes and deserve to die.
The phlog is mostly annoying because it means a pyro can walk round corner, with little telegraphing, and just zap you in a beam of crits. Sure, yes, in any longer-range encounter it's completely useless (unless you're backpedalling and get caught in the flames anyway) but the idea that they get a bonus on top of catching you at close range is just asinine.
I have the same opinion of any crit storing mechanic or honestly the head collecting stuff as well - it's hard to judge what a player can do, and it practically nullifies any skill or planning on your end if they pull out their special glowy shit stick because they spammed scorch shot/got a few kills with a sentry/backstabbed some people, or you see a demoknight and have zero idea how much health they have or how quickly they'll be able to close the ground between you. It also basically means you get punished for your teammates being spackers and feeding them to build up whatever bonus their weapon gives them.
The soldier's backpack items however I'm pretty okay with, because they bonus they give is time restricted, not that overpowered, and more importantly very clearly telegraphed by the horn sounding, the banner, and the effects. A constant speed+health boost or storing crits? Yeah, no.
What are you trying to auction?
Well at least they didnt update the phlog flame particles unlike the rest of flamethrowers so you can see where the pyro is coming from most of the time, instead of having blinding orange flames cover up the pyro at least in my opinion
And countering with longer range weapons is good but you cant move too far off because of damage falloff and pyro itself has faster walking speed so fighting phlog pyros are just about who can kill eachother faster
and then die anyway because of the afterburn
Oh yea, tune in to http://twitch.tv/Kritzkast at 3PMCET/9AMCDT as I, Fluury and our team is going to fight in the European Prolander Cup!

change the phlog's crits into minicrits and halve the phlog's range like how it was bugged back at the beginning of JI and it would be much easier to play against, remove the uber on taunt and bring back the heal and damage resistance the original had too so a pyro can't just taunt in front of a heavy and not get mowed down
That would just make the Phlog into shit.
Nothing of value will be lost, if you ask me.
Why does scorch do full afterburn duration for skimming a pinkie toe.
Don't remember where I read this (probably in one of these threads actually) but remember seeing someone suggest that the phlog inherits the mechanics of the dragon's fury, which I like the idea of. Maybe make the projectile smaller than the DF's, so when crits are popped you actually need to aim to get kills.
Yes, there is a thing called a difficulty curve, and I am aware that this exists. The thing is that why does that mean the reason the majority of people are going to play video games to get better at them?
How is my entire argument about crits "they are fine because I say so"? If that's the case then isn't everyone else basically going "they are bad because I say so"?
Where have I been proven wrong or closeminded?
What is the hard data? I remember 1 person bringing up some evidence in a past discussion, but I do not remember who they were and I am not sure if it was about this specific topic.
What do you mean by an "ad hominem experience"? I think I do not understand what you mean there.
What counter arguments have I failed to acknowledge? I think I try to respond to everything in these discussions..
It would be nice to be put in games with people who have actually played this game before as opposed to people who've only just installed the game.
if you aren't even aware of why people play videogames then you sure as fuck aren't going to be part of them
All fire damage used to to do that, until jungle inferno.
The Hu-Long Heater still does it.
You know right after JI came out the Phlog's flames had more "drag" than other flamethrowers and had shorter range consequently, maybe bring that back?
Imagine when people raffle things they're only going to ask for coin ratings.
So what is the most common reason people play videogames?
Or are you saying that I'm not aware of any reason why a person might play videogames?
