"We don't have a date for the Pyro update that we can share yet, but we're working to finish it as soon as possible." Looks like it really is September. That kind of wording makes it sound like they can't release it in the next couple weeks, and thanks to the email we now know that Halloween is the absolute latest date it can came out.
I feel having all effects for 2016 halloween/invasion hats will make people buy thoses crates a bunch because most people didn't like the exclusive 2016 halloween effects or most invasion effects beside nebula. It's a good thing overall, unpopular effects were always there but nobody liked having hats limited to some unpopular effects. More hats combinaisons is a good thing.
I just got up to take a piss (TMI, I know) and had a thought. Valve have does this exactly backwards. What we need is cases to offer the chance of getting an unusual effect tied to that specific case ...on a hat NOT from said case. Yes, we all want an Nebula Team Captain (or in my case, Federal Casemaker.) Even under such a system, we'd still be missing out on some great possibilities because EotL effects are in a crate, not a case (no Frostbite Chill Chulo.) I'd also be nice to get some 2015 halloween unusual effects on non-2015 hats. I have an additional question. Remember the 2014 Halloween Unlocked Creepy Crates? They have the chance to drop Strange Haunted cosmetics, and are really expensive for that reasons. Previously, they had the chance to produce an Unusual (hat/misc prior to Halloween 2016, now just hat) in any halloween effect. That is to say, I could open an Unlocked Creepy Heavy Crate (after paying $17 for it on the SCM) and roll an unusual. If my understanding is correct, I could get a ...Knifestorm Horrific Headsplitter out of it (10/10 theming). That is currently the only way to unbox halloween effects from years prior to 2015. Valve did say specifically "Crates will not be affected by these changes" but based on their previous track record (the reason unusual miscs have been disabled since last year is due to a bug they can't/won't fix that leads to things like an unusual vest for Heavy) ...I don't see things going so smoothly. These proposed changes are going to wreak some havoc on the unusual market, which is already pretty unstable. If I didn't have a radio show to prepare, I'd pop on to a trade server and listen to the complaining.
Maybe on full moons they can make a random assortment of Halloween effects from years past drop?
We don't have a date for a Pyro update that we can share yet.
What does it mean?! Are they implying they don't have a set date yet or that they just can't share it yet?! Stop doing this to me! :alien: :alien: :alien:
Kinda disapointed the only blogpost we get in weeks is only about crates because that's minor compared to the all content we're expecting for the update, but it just makes sense, they always need to drive tf2 revenue up so it's really important for them to make sure it does well. And any blogpost is better than no blogpost.
If they're putting crate changes in the game currently, the Update should be about done. I wouldn't be surprised if it's next week, I'd be amazed if it's October and I think it's most likely last week of Aug or first week of Sep. Wait... communication from the TF team? Hope returns!
produce a lot of 1/1 unusuals that no one really wants (buy my Massed Flies Mo'Horn, guise!)
say what you want about the cases, but lay off the mo'horn

Okay, trading is (arguably) simpler thing - so it's at least month from now. If we take statement that this is the last thing they have to sort out for truth. And if they will prepare several variants of changes during feedback measurement, so they won't have to spend time on implementing changes afterwards. But yeah, fingers crossed for summer update! /s
say what you want about the cases, but lay off the mo'horn
the mo'horn smells.
Wait... communication from the TF team? Hope returns!
It's something, but it's a pretty meh something, personally.
Sounds like they are converting cases to act a bit recent treasures in Dota 2 - rare/very rare items that have a chance to drop alongside whatever else. Shame they couldn't go full hog into "if you open enough of these cases you will get one of everything except the rare/very rare/ultra rare item". To take a hypothetical case for an example, you'd be able to open it eight times and get everything guaranteed except for the rarest item in there.
if they're doing changes to trading, I really hope they're reworking the drop/craft/inventory/equip systems, it's in a really terrible spot right now
anyone else think it's fucking insane theyre putting time and man power into the case system and not fixing the fucking game.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I read it is if I were to unbox an Invasion case, and roll unusual I now have a chance of a shitty second or third generation unusual effect on my (already shitty) unusual Invasion hat? I always wanted a Strange Nuts n' Bolts Universal Translator! Also, unless Valve have specifically re-nabled unusual non-hat-equip-region "miscs" no new unusual Captain Space Manns will be unboxed. Fuck's sake. What are they thinking? Also, this means cases from the last two halloween events (Gargoyle and Creepy Crawly) will now produce 1st/second/third generation effects ...as well as a their respective event effects? That's good/bad. It means things like a Sunbeams Class Crown or Burning Flames Pestering Jester can now exist and there is the possibility of something like a Bubbling Neptune's Nightmare or Smoking Smokey Sombrero. I'm unsure what Valve are hoping to accomplish here. It will probably raise the price of desirable effects that are tied to a specific case (cough cough Nebula) and produce a lot of 1/1 unusuals that no one really wants (buy my Massed Flies Mo'Horn, guise!)
It'd be fine if they'd just throw the newer effects into the regular roster already. They're just digging themselves a grave with this. Well they did say to respond with how we felt, maybe we should just all tell them to add the effects.
anyone else think it's fucking insane theyre putting time and man power into the case system and not fixing the fucking game.
For some hats are game And source for income, at that.
anyone else think it's fucking insane theyre putting time and man power into the case system and not fixing the fucking game.
Nobody said that the case system was the only thing they are fixing, nor is it their main priority. They are keeping their cards to their chest in regards to what new content the update will have, besides weapon balancing.
I never thought that valve would ever actually listen to the criticism about cases, and I never ever thought valve would actually give feedback and fixes based on this criticism is this what communication feels like? it feels good.
Hahaha, see you guys on Christmas. If we're lucky.
I never thought that valve would ever actually listen to the criticism about cases, and I never ever thought valve would actually give feedback and fixes based on this criticism is this what communication feels like? it feels good.
It's amusing to watch how people discuss the rules for gambling game, as if they could improve their chances of getting away with more than they came to house with. And smart move at valve's part too
Hey, not to get anyone's hopes too high up, but as far as I know they've said nothing about tweaking cases up to this point. Worst case [sp]haha[/sp] scenario this is the only surprise, but even this shows that the update is not gonna be "just the class pack and weapon balances they said, nothing more"
anyone else think it's fucking insane theyre putting time and man power into the case system and not fixing the fucking game.
I can't imagine these changes are taking up very much man power or causing the major delay with Pyro update.
Considering that they're worried about the case system out of all things could show that the base update is basically done, and they're working on smaller things to finish up the update but that's just my wishful thinking
Just an odd question because I'm not experienced in it. Can anyone give a rough example of how long ~1600 HammerUnits is? An odd question I know but I'm trying to design some stats and I'd like to judge its effective range.
According to this a needs a hight of 83 HU to fit under something.
What the genuine fuck do they mean they don't have a date for the pyro update. They whiffed Halloween and smissmass last year, and it's been over 400 DAYS.

They don't tell us a week earlier, "Hey, the update will come out next week.", not how Valve works.

I know it's not much but I'm glad they made SOME type of blogpost, breaking the near two month long silence with something is better than keeping quiet.
