I miss having friends that play TF2
I miss being able to join my friends games on the enemy team and taunt after every time I kill them.
It doesn't sound like adhoc is the only reason you can't do that anymore
I miss having friends that play TF2
Same, most of mine flatout refuse because they joined the bandwagon of "It's a dead game" meme.
Yeah, that sucks. Everytime i talk to a friend to play tf2 they say "BUT ISN'T IT DEAD XDXD?!"
Its amazing how people will call a game dead because they dont play it anymore.
Its also amazing how quickly people can get bored of being bad at TF2
Matchmaking in casual is completely unnecessary. It makes matches last less, queue times much longer in certain zones (not my experience tbh), it fragments the community due to the number of players compared to the number of players required for a good match (servers often ends up with few players, with no way of merging them if not return to MM) and it does not provide often a balanced match due to it being a 12v12.
This change was just implemented to give more challenging matches to the players (with levels and pre-matches) but this is just not how players apparently want 12v12 to be.
In the heterogeneous community of TF2 there are traders, pubstompers, comp players, Hispanic children that have just installed steam and are completely new to shooters with mouse and keyboard, friendlies and simple newbies that had their own way to have fun in those kind of open lobbies that were the matches back then.
I vaguely remember a video about TF2 and Overwatch. The only thing that I remember of that video is a summary: "OW is where you play with friends, TF2 is where you find your friends". I remember when I absolutely wanted to play cp_steel and all the official servers were empty: all I had to do was to join an empty one and to wait for it to be filled while exploring the map and to socialize with the guys that joined in the meantime. It was great.
I'm not having a bad time with the new casual mode: it just seems.... less casual. IMHO it would be great to have a casual 6v6 with MM and an (ultra?) casual 12v12 without MM (just like old quickplay or some sort of reworking. Only community servers quickplay and/or workshop map rotation? Would be insanely great)
And here i'm done with my useless rant, sorry for my bad English.
Only thing i miss is the spirit on the community server of ours where people would stay on the same server, have fun with eachothers and have a decent skill level of the game. Right now its pure "noob bash" on valve servers and always new server for different maps. Rarely i see vote getting anything but current map.

Do you miss the long 60-minute pub matches Quickplay used to offer? I certainly did, and I hope they bring them at least partially back in this update. Casual still seems really underwhelming on that front, as games come and go really fast, and the TF team has had no concerns related to match lenght. I can tolerate matchmaking wait times, I can endure for even longer for a map that I like, but I can't get the joy out of one or two matches before I'm sent to the queue again.
About that...
http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791459890934
Server hosted in Frankfurt, payload only, no crits, no spread. Started this week and we've had a few small matches of 6v6 (That's the most people I've seen on the server currently)
The owner makes an announcement daily, or so far daily and people have joined for some semi-competitive matches.
I've honestly had more fun there in these three days than I've had in a year with Casual which more often than not becomes a messy shitshow.

But i like crits and bulleet spread. ;-)
The only issue I have with map voting, is that you can be enjoying PL, then because 60% voted 2fort you have to jump ship and begin again.
If you come from a PL, keep it to only PL maps.

That was almost assuredly this Errant Signal video by Campster:

I think that if they don't go the route of having the available maps for voting be of the same game mode as the previous map, it could instead have people that voted for the previous map stay on the server and have those that voted for a different map autojoin a server for that map. That way people aren't forced into a map they don't want, and the queue system doesn't have to make up for the people suddenly abandoning the server. Also, if the same map is chosen, it shouldn't need to reload the map and make everyone reconnect; if there aren't enough players in the server it should just do the preround deathmatch until enough players join.

It's such a shame that there is a vicious cycle around how new people are greeted by the game. As the tutorial that TF2 has is severely lacking, the players feel their first TF2 impression as they get pubstomped over. Now, in this situation Quickplay would have found them a match with somewhat equal cluelessness on modes like CTF, where they could have played around each other a bit to know how everything works. Skillful players were quite rare, and you could avoid them by simply searching for a new CTF server. All the playground time with the weapons and classes have a chance of lighting a spark in someone to want to get good. How do I know all this? It's because I started out in this way.
Casual, in comparison, is far worse in my opinion. Even though it's similarity towards Valve's comp does bridge the gap between newbies and the competitive scene a bit, the absense of actual matchmaking and the decrease in the amount of obscure gamemode servers has increased the chance of new players getting pubstomped by more experienced ones.
TF2 demanded a lot of dedication and interest to slowly climb up the skill stairs during Quickplay times, but Casual makes even finding a match of equal skill, it's one job, tediously hard to accomplish.
Thank you for reading all of that. It took a while to write. Hope this stirs more conversation on improving Casual.

Yes, It is! That's a really interesting channel

Oh, I would love to join that kind of server, even with 12 players. Better keep an eye out on it for now.

2 of the same
I also got 2 (figured I got 2 because leswordfish tagged both Fillmore and Sntr as the devs so I collabed with myself) and the guy behind Waterfront's normal mode got 3
everyone gets a sentry buster

I can't believe the VA of the scout is just leaking the entire Update to us!
Nathan retains his position as the best person involved with the making of TF2.

According to my notes, that pegleg comes in 9 fashionable colors in the new PegPlayer collection. One of the legs in the case has a reference to Inuyasha of all things.

Are these peglegs compatible with the Bootlegger?

When can i expect the new Video ? /s
Nice to finally get an official status update from the TF2 team.

But you don't understand, the kiddies today need their one click skill-based matchmaking! I encountered a child playing LawBreakers last evening that didn't even realize what community servers were, citing console games from the PS2 era as proof that server browsers never existed.

I'm pretty matchmaking was something they had to do because Valve is moving their game servers to the Steam Datagram Relay System where you no longer directly connect to game servers and I don't believe quickplay would work with that system.
matchmaking is always nice, however the casual implementation isn't really great, you need pre-round to allow all players to connect before the match starts, as it's not really fair for most people on the server not to be able to set up properly, and to allow the GC to match more people on the server, but that leaves a lot of wasted time for people already on the server.
in addition, MM for 12v12 is terribly hard to maintain, you'll almost never have a full game from the start.
I do like and support a casual system in TF2, but maybe make it 6v6 and readd pubs?, or somehow fix the current system, but I don't believe that's possible
Can they just allow ad-hoc connections, make the map go for 5 rounds (best out of five wins before map change), add autoscramble after round ends (either caused by disproportionate point difference or imbalanced teams), and allow team change and spectator mode?
[editline]19th August 2017[/editline]
That's all I want really.

Don't forget auto-balance, and re-introduce Stopwatch Mode.
Don't forget auto-balance, and re-introduce Stopwatch Mode.
And put a fucking timer on powerhouse.
I loved stopwatch mode when casual was introduced, it really made the team actually focus on the the object, and it made the game feel more competitive in a fun way.

all we need back is map vote extensions and we're goober

And a return to matchmaking taking forever and player counts tanking because all the pub-tato gibuses ever vote for is 2fort and dustbowl?
I'd rather not.
